Learning how to go backwards at Galaxy Skateland.
    Lucia G.

For those of us who love skating and live in Martinsburg and surrounding areas, Galaxy Skateland is a true blessing. Traveling far just to roller skate isn't my thing so I'm highly grateful Galaxy Skateland is here!!! And yes, I do recommend it!!! I absolutely love the folks who run Galaxy Skateland! Two thumbs up for their friendliness! They put on a lot of work to keep the place nice and to provide great fun and safe experience to their customers! Highly reasonable prices! Love their food and the fact that they call us via intercom when our pizza or nachos are ready! Their concession customer service is better than all rinks I've been to and I've been to many! Here are some things I personally feel deserve attention: I'd love to see better floor supervision and an adult "in the DJ booth" at all times during sessions! Galaxy Skateland is the first skating rink I attend that leaves its floor unsupervised. Obvious liabilities and risks aside, I trust this alone discourages and drives away both potential and established patrons. I often see skilled teen skaters cutting off other skaters. This type of behavior wouldn't fly in other rinks! Injury risks in skating are true without the presence of reckless show off's! Other "firsts" here involve teens playing basketball during skating sessions, teens jumping (while wearing skates) to pull basketball nets and unsupervised small children running in the midst of skaters! These things reflect true serious risks and liabilities and serious recklessness + poor management here. I've heard folks say "It's what teens and children do!" To me, this type of attitude and low expectations are the true root of behavior issues among our youth. If we expect less than proper behavior, disrespect, no consideration, & no skating etiquette from our youth, we forfeit our right to complain when they act upon such sad low expectations! Immature and reckless behavior truly spoils any skating experience. This is something all skating rinks must seriously consider and manage accordingly! FLOOR LIGHTING: Some evening sessions go on from start to end in "permanent darkness here". I can understand alternating dimming lights or keeping it dark throughout some sessions. But during family nights and Saturday afternoons?? I don't see dark rink floors as ideal skating environments for any age or skating level. Personal opinion aside, fact is customers are the life of a business and managers are the heart pumping oxygen into the customer experience! To me, being able to see the floor and other people while skating is not only a must but also a safety matter! Not everyone cares for the old "disco inferno" skating floors! Lighting means the difference between skaters enjoying a well lit floor or tensing up while getting dizzy in a dark stroboscopic skating session! In contrast, the blinding effects of super bright lights would be (in my opinion) just as bad! Balance is truly "the essence of skating"!!! MUSIC: let's get real: music is a HUGE part of all indoor skating experience! Music can make skating both a highly enjoyable or a highly dreadful experience. Rhythm and beat aside, this Biblical truth applies to song lyrics: Words mean the difference between life and death! Want to kill my mood in any place? Play appalling, sleazy songs! We attend what's advertised as "family nights" (Tuesday evenings). To say I wish for better music and lyrics here is gross understatement. It's bad enough that adults are subject to hearing low grade nonsense but no child should ever be subjected to degrading words from any source, especially songs played during "family skating nights"! To be fair to the nice folks running Galaxy Skateland, they welcome suggestions and they're open to song requests. I know it's difficult to cater to all music tastes. But this is why management plays vital role in balancing things out and drawing lines that ultimately define the business, its standards and the service quality therein! It's impossible to please everyone at all times! For this reason, good rinks seek to cater to different groups of people by offering various session formats and times! As a former fitness business owner, I know this is no small task. I also know that customer feedback, support, and understanding makes a huge difference for businesses and those running it! Let's not judge a business without considering how we can contribute to it! We've attended parties and other events here at Galaxy and recently had our own. It's always been great fun and nice overall experiences. Skating is a great form of fun aerobic exercise. It certainly beats staring at devices! Skating rinks can represent great positive influences on our youth. For this to be true, all adults involved (rink owners, managers, staff, parents, etc) must consider how our individual behaviors and choices influence the next generation of adults! They mostly reflect what they learn from us!

Great price and nice large rink. They do need someone on the rink to supervise. Each time we've come, the same 3-4 guys are out there trying to run each other over and they end up running over other skaters. I get that they are good and want to take risks, but it makes me hesitant to come back knowing the same group runs amuck without care.

She got…read moreskates from Santa and wanted to practice more that was beyond the floor in our kitchen and hallway. All of the 1-STAR reviewers were correct in saying that some of the ceiling tiles have water damage, tile fixtures are falling off, the facility is old, and it's dirty. Even with some of these expensive deal breakers for a place of business, the people who work here are very kind and welcoming. The man who told me to spit my gum out upon entering said it matter of factly. I didn't perceive it as yelling as other reviewers stated. After reading the board before paying to enter and meeting that man, my daughter even reminded me that I had to spit out my gum. The snack bar is busy since outside food/drink can't be brought in. Be ready to pay a lot to quench your thirst from skating. The music selections are awesome and ranges from 70s to current. All upbeat and fun! The 5 stars are well deserved for the huge smile this place gave my daughter and the confidence it gives her to roller skate. Considering many businesses that come to die here in Winchester, this roller skating rink has been able to hold its own for a long time.

They have great food there. It's also fresh and ready to serve. All of the employees are so nice.read more

If you bring your own skates, make sure they're not road-used; they're trying to protect their nice floor. Though I really love it here, be aware that they have heat but no A/C. Plan accordingly for the weather and dress lightly on warm days. Although I still miss the convenience of having a skating rink right there in Rockville on Gude Drive from years ago... Honestly, Starland is better in so many ways. Music is varied and they mix some classics in with newer, even on kids nights. The staff are always so nice and gave us great advice and service for my husband's skates, giving them their first ever wheel change in 25 years. (And believe me, he quad skates a lot!)

In a world where trampoline parks charge $20+ a kid for an hour, this place feels like a miracle. It was pretty crowded, but they keep a good flow going on the floor, good music, and a great family friendly atmosphere. They have the little walker/roller carts for children to learn on, but fair warning they do run out so get there early or you might be waiting. You might think that with such a cheap entry fee they make up the money on concessions, but nope. A bottle of water is still only $1 here. Honestly, Bush Tabernacle seems like a community service project gone right and just what parents of cabin-fevered kids need in this area. I hadn't skated it like 20 years and somehow picked it right back up, and it was fun for me too. In addition to the skating rink, they also have a small free play game area where kids can take a break with Fortnite, Rocket League, etc., as well as two air hockey tables and a ping pong table. There's a large area with tables for renting out for parties, too. I was pleasantly surprised by this place, and the whole family wants to come back soon.

For beginners they run out of support skates pretty fast.. otherwise it's okay experience…read more Depending on party size this could get pretty crowded pretty fast also

The place is pretty easy to find though it is unlikely you'd just happen to drive by it, as it is kind of not on the beaten path. You can purchase everything ahead of time in terms of skate rentals and entry. It's pretty reasonable for one session mid-afternoon until close in the evening, you just need one entrance ticket/fee paid. You get your money's worth for sure if you are there for hours! You can bring your own skates or rent skates here- they have regular roller skates and roller blades. Both of these are in whole sizes, no half sizes, and both of them would be best on your feet with high socks that go to your lower calves, at least. Tying them tightly gives you the best skating, but that also pinches into skin if you don't have the right socks. They have an area for parties that includes a few arcade games, but mostly, you're there to skate. There are people there who are serious skaters going wicked fast and throwing some cool tricks, but we never felt bad in any way for not being one of the super talented skaters. There's a snack bar, too, with your classic fare like burgers, hot dogs, nachos, fries and funnel cake fries. Yummy snack junk food that makes the experience all the more reminiscent of young carefree days! They have lockers for your stuff, some don't even lock, but no one seemed concerned. There are benches for sitting and changing out your shoes to skates and vice versa, and people tend to just stash their shoes under the benches rather than get a locker. A good time all around and pretty affordable if you're there for a while!

I had my daughter's party at from 10-12 am Saturday morning. The time worked well for me. I booked my party on the website about a month out. There is a 200 dollar deposit that is non refundable that you pay at the time of booking. They said you are able to use it as a credit for another date if something happens and you have to cancel. They have a menu online that you can purchase food for your party. They have pizza, fries, mozzarella sticks, and assorted sodas. If you choose to bring outside food there is an additional 225 fee they will add on (75 for food and 150 for cleanup) . They allow you to bring a outside cake at no additional charge. We ordered pizza and fries for the kids. They used a Spotify playlist for music. Had a great time with the kids for two hours. Staff was friendly and helpful. Had a issue with the cake we ordered for the part not being delivered. Staff was very helpful. Even though they don't have cake they did give us a discount on some ice cream for the kids. The provided candles as well. They definitely went above and beyond to make sure my daughter had a great birthday.
