What a fun throwback experience to go roller skating at Coppermine Sportsman's Hall! The parking lot is huge, so it's very easy to park, and it's free parking. The place is pretty easy to find though it is unlikely you'd just happen to drive by it, as it is kind of not on the beaten path. You can purchase everything ahead of time in terms of skate rentals and entry. It's pretty reasonable for one session mid-afternoon until close in the evening, you just need one entrance ticket/fee paid. You get your money's worth for sure if you are there for hours! You can bring your own skates or rent skates here- they have regular roller skates and roller blades. Both of these are in whole sizes, no half sizes, and both of them would be best on your feet with high socks that go to your lower calves, at least. Tying them tightly gives you the best skating, but that also pinches into skin if you don't have the right socks. They have an area for parties that includes a few arcade games, but mostly, you're there to skate. There are people there who are serious skaters going wicked fast and throwing some cool tricks, but we never felt bad in any way for not being one of the super talented skaters. There's a snack bar, too, with your classic fare like burgers, hot dogs, nachos, fries and funnel cake fries. Yummy snack junk food that makes the experience all the more reminiscent of young carefree days! They have lockers for your stuff, some don't even lock, but no one seemed concerned. There are benches for sitting and changing out your shoes to skates and vice versa, and people tend to just stash their shoes under the benches rather than get a locker. Had my daughters birthday party here. They allow you to have private parties but the hours are only when they are closed for normal business. I had my daughter's party at from 10-12 am Saturday morning. The time worked well for me. I booked my party on the website about a month out. There is a 200 dollar deposit that is non refundable that you pay at the time of booking. They said you are able to use it as a credit for another date if something happens and you have to cancel. They have a menu online that you can purchase food for your party. They have pizza, fries, mozzarella sticks, and assorted sodas. If you choose to bring outside food there is an additional 225 fee they will add on (75 for food and 150 for cleanup) . They allow you to bring a outside cake at no additional charge. We ordered pizza and fries for the kids. They used a Spotify playlist for music. Had a great time with the kids for two hours. Staff was friendly and helpful. Had a issue with the cake we ordered for the part not being delivered. Staff was very helpful. Even though they don't have cake they did give us a discount on some ice cream for the kids. The provided candles as well. They definitely went above and beyond to make sure my daughter had a great birthday. read more

Attended a birthday party with my seven year old son at Sportsman's Hall Roller Skating. Upon arrival, we were greeted at the front by an employee who was solely dealing with party check in. That's a great touch, as it got us through quickly without slowing down anyone who wasn't with a party. My son was given a voucher for skates and, after greeting the party guests, we headed over to get a pair. This was easy. He was in a pair of skates that fit in like two minutes. I planned on just sort of hanging with him but was informed outside shoes could not be on the skate floor. This was his first time so I sort of let him go and...it wasn't good. Thankfully there was a referee who helped him return to me. At this point I decided to get him a skate pal and rented my own pair of skates (both of which were super reasonable prices). The skating rink seemed to be in mostly good shape. There were a couple questionable spots. The rink has a DJ, snack bar and some games that people can play when not skating. The food was fine. The games were fine as well. Neither was spectacular. The host that was connected to our party was very attentive and accommodating. She explained everything that she was doing (almost too much). The one negative is the bathrooms. They are not very conducive to beginning skaters. Trying to keep my son from falling and conking his head on the toilet was a bit of a chore. Taking skates on and off is also a hassle and there isn't really anywhere to store them in or around the bathroom. I'm not sure what the solution is but, just know, bathroom going at the rink while wearing skates can be an adventure. Typically we love this place. The staff is pretty helpful but we just went today and the building is so unbearably hot that upon arrival and putting skates on my whole family started sweating. My kids cheeks were so red they didn't enjoy their time and only wanted to skate maybe 5 min increments at a time. It is 90+ degrees outside and the building was also at least 85 or higher. The staff did attempt to put up several fans but to no avail. Someone from management needs to come to the facility and update the hvac or something. The manager was nice enough to give a partial refund and a free water bottle. They kept pushing to sell snow cones instead of offering free ice cold water. A bit of advice the air conditioning issue should have been mentioned upon arrival so patrons can decide whether they want to stay or not. Felt blind sided walking into the establishment not knowing the extreme hot conditions in the skating rink. read more

Perfect rainy/snowy/cold day place to bring the kids. Reasonably priced. Their music selection is questionable for kids at some times, but still fun. The food is not recommended unless frozen pizza that you have to wait 20 minutes for is you thing. Basically, do plan on eating there, and you'll have a fine time. Sportsman's Hall rocks! I came here with some friends for an adult skate night event after not having been here for probably over a decade. The floor is so smooth and the rink is HUGE. It was also awesome to be able to skate on a smaller practice area to work on tricks. If I lived closer, I would be here every weekend. It's alright. First let me get this out of the way, I love skating here but that is about it. The bathrooms are terrible and I mean terrible. At least in the men's bathroom, the doors on the stalls were damaged or missing. The one sink was not working and there was no soap. You may say use hand sanitizer but to that I say the hand sanitizer they give you smells and feels weird. Bathrooms cost them three stars. Other than that, I'd say this is a generally good place for families or groups to go to. read more

Just had my daughters 6th birthday party here. I'm only giving 2 stars because the host was amazing and they let us put whatever decorations we wanted up. I understand it's summer time and it can be hot but it was overly hot inside where it was very uncomfortable. They did try their best to keep it cool down but the AC needs to be fixed. Secondly I dislike the extra chargers for bringing in outside food because the pizza tasted so bad that no one even wanted to eat it. Like COME ON little Ceaser can make a better pizza for less then 15 dollars. I don't mind paying the money as long as it edible. 7/11 pizza tastes better then the pizza they are selling. Bathrooms need updating. I went to wash my hands and only one sink had enough pressure to get out a little bit of water. At least is the men's bathroom. Also I do believe they need a better system for the skate mates because for some reason I got charge for 9 of them and I didn't even have 9 skating. Make sure to keep track of how many you get at the start. Okay okay enough with the bad stuff there was also some positive things. DJ was amazing and tried his best to keep it entertaining. The rink itself wasn't bad at all. Has some spots but for the age i believe it's well taken care of. Would I go back??? Hmm absolutely I would but not in the dead heat of summer and if I do another party there. I would be paying the 225 extra food charge because I wouldn't torture the kids again with that pizza. My experience at Sportsman's Hall was exceptional, and I strongly recommend it to anyone who is serious about rollerskating, especially those interested in roller dance/shuffle/jam skating. There are a number of things that set this rink apart from other rinks: 1) The focus on excellent customer service was apparent throughout my visit. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming. The manager, Andi, took the time to tell me about the history of the rink and was dedicated to making sure that my experience was a good one. The DJ is very knowledgeable about dance music and consistently played the kind of older and newer dance music that is supportive of roller dance. Every song worked well for skating! I was told that the rink employs another DJ who also focuses on dance music, but she was not available because she was attending the Moonrise EDM festival. I share this information to underscore their emphasis on good skating music throughout the session. 2) The whole facility is large. The beautiful wood skating floor is large and smooth. There is also a fairly big practice area for beginners. Even the parking lot was large! 3) This rink does not get bogged down in a bunch of games. This is a place that focuses on skating, and welcomes/appreciates those who love to skate. Both the staff and other customers/spectators were friendly and encouraging about roller dance. The general milieu of mutual friendliness makes this a very safe place to skate. Strangely, there is no water fountain; however, Andi provided me with water at no charge and said that skaters can bring in water bottles that they would be happy to refill for free. I encouraged her to look into getting a water fountain installed. I have been skating for about 25 years and have visited a lot of skating rinks all over the country. My visit to Sportsman's Hall was one of the best skating experiences that I can recall. I travelled 75 minutes (one way) and arrived 40 minutes late to the session, but I still feel like this was an excellent value. I look forward to returning soon, and I encourage anyone who loves skating to put this rink in their list of must-visit locations. read more

Nice skating rink with an excellent floor. Enjoyed trying out a new pair of skates. It wasn't too crowded and was a nice evening.

We had my daughters party here and we never seen the party host but when we went up to ask for more drinks or to ask where our pizza was. The pizza finally came out and it was so burnt. They also charged us $25 for chips that we never seen. Would not recommend having a party here! read more

Loved it! Need more 80's music but hey that's the nostalgic side of me. Even more dance music would be nice like throw back 80's 90's dance. Very child friendly environment. I will say I think they need an amateur as well. Some of these more pro ish skaters are rude and take everyone out in their way. I do love they have little pvc pipe crutch helpers. I really hope Sportsman's can succeed and do well! I heard they've had a lot of issues monetarily but I hope they can work that out. I also have to say the new kid Tanner at the cafe is an amazing little kid and deserves a raise. He seemed to care so much for our dietary needs as we have allergies! I have skated at Sportsmans Hall many times, I have always found the staff to be welcoming and friendly. It is a great place to take your family for fun or to meet some new friends and get some exercise. The current management is constantly making improvements to the rink and looking to ways to improve the skating experience for the public. I think the rink is in the best shape its been in years, I am looking forward to going back soon. read more

Donna and her husband (can't recall his name right now) are VERY friendly folks. They remember you when you become a regular patron. It's very clean. Great music by DJ's who get you in the mood to move! If you want to burn it up, come on Thursday nights, as it's not as crowded and really plenty of room to soar! The food must be OK. I've never seen anybody complaining. I don't come to eat! I come to skate! And I'd say it's THE best rink I've ever seen. Great for kids too, no matter how old you are! read more

While there on February 20th, my group of friends and I received atrocious service from every staff member we talked to. After missing our order coming out of the snack bar due to the loud environment , one staff member went so far as to yell at me for not paying attention to my food, even though my entire group had been waiting patiently for the food to come out for over 20 minutes. I took my five year old little girl to Sportsman's Hall roller skating rink in Upperco, Maryland hoping to enjoy a fun filled evening with two of her other friends. However, to my complete and utter shock and horror, what I found was a tacky establishment and DEPLORABLE customer service from the owner of the establishment. The man was incredibly HOSTILE to me and my child as well. I SHOULD HAVE TURNED AROUND AND LEFT prior to purchasing tickets, but I had driven about an hour from Harford County, so I was willing to take a chance for my little girl. Picture this experience: Upon entry, when purchasing tickets, the woman working the booth is running credit cards via her cell phone, during which time I was notified that not only did I have to pay 13.00 per person, but that there was also a 2.00 charge for even using my card and that there would be a charge every time that I needed to make any purchase. Maybe you are thinking that this could be a small roller rink that was just trying to establish itself, but alas no, this business has been there for quite some time and was the size of an average Skateland. Unlike Skateland, however, small children are not allowed to skate on the outer edges of the rink with their parents, using the small wall to help them hold their balance while trying to learn how to skate. They are required to skate in the middle of the rink where there is absolutely nothing to hold on to, pretty much ensuring that they are going to fall down and hurt themselves, effectively destroying any interest that they had in learning how to roller skate. After I had been there for approximately one hour our girls decided that they wanted a snack so I went to the snack bar and purchased two soft pretzels, which were frozen pretzels placed in a microwave by a young lady who used no gloves, nor did she wash her hands prior to touching our food during the middle of flu season. I took the soft pretzels over to the bench where all three of our young children were sitting. I will admit when having three five year old children who are just learning to skate that I did not pay attention to a sign that was posted on the wall by the snack bar stating that food should be kept in the enclosed area, I honestly didn't see the sign. The owner came over to ask us to take our food to the appropriate area, at which point I apologized and we agreed to move. My friends child had removed her skates so I was attempting to detangle her laces and get her skates back on so that we could move the children to a table. I apparently was not moving fast enough for this man, as he came BACK over and took our uneaten soft pretzels and ripped a drink out of my daughters hand. He took my girlfriends drink also and I attempted to explain that I was trying to get her skates on to move when he started SCREAMING at me in front of my child and all of the other patrons. He was screaming that I was illiterate and that I was a "poor example of a parent" to my daughter because I had not brought her to the food court to eat her soft pretzel. I asked him not to speak to me that way when he then proceeded to YELL at my FIVE YEAR OLD and told her she better pay attention to what I tell her to do and and to do the opposite, because I was raising her wrong. Our daughters were so shaken up by the event that they started to cry. I was so shocked and appalled and felt so verbally assaulted that I removed all of the skates and packed everyone up to go. My girlfriend attempted to speak to the man without children around and told him how unprofessional he was and he stated that "your child will become a juvenile delinquent because of you." Now mind you I am sure that we seem like TOTAL rebels and troublemakers for bringing two soft pretzels out of the food court by accident. As far as I am concerned this man has no business owning and operating a place for children, and is incredibly disrespectful towards women. I guarantee you that if our husbands had been there we would not have been screamed at like pieces of trash. I am an emergency room nurse and my friend sells horses for a living and I can assure you that if we treated customers and patients half as bad as this man treated us, we would be jobless and without income. Hopefully I have conveyed my point, and if I could give this establishment zero stars I would absolutely do so. You could not pay me enough money to ever go back there.
