Nearly half of the shop features supplies for fiber crafts, so of course you'll find yarn here but also yarn bowls, cross stitch and embroidery kits, and so on. I bought several beautiful rolls of wrapping paper, which I spent a ridiculous amount of money in but it was really gorgeous and I can't wait to give some gifts now! The folks here also run a ghost tour. I overheard the proprietor speaking with some other customers, and he mentioned they do a 90 minute walking tour. I was so bummed that I had plans tonight (even more bummed that those plans didn't really materialize!!). Next time I visit I would like to take a ghost tour. It was especially interesting listening to these folks talk with the owner because they themselves are ghost hunters, and they were asking about haunted places and said they like to take their own equipment out to explore. The store is not really accessible, unfortunately. There is a big step up from the sidewalk to enter. If you have mobility issues but can manage a large step up (probably at least 6-8 inches) it may work, but wheelchair users will not be able to enter. The owners seem to be cultivating a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere, so if you need assistance I'm sure they would be happy to help.

Pieces offered were functional, decorative, or both; I ended up purchasing a striking vase from a local artist (Pine Hollow Pottery). The owner (Joe Pinder) was available to tell us about the art, the gallery and upcoming shows and festivals. (His dog was also hanging out, and was very cute.) Pieces were surprisingly affordable (I'm used to the art shows in a different area, I guess, where products are more costly). Overall, I would definitely keep this place in mind on a return visit to Galena for art with a personal touch and a local flavor.

Also a Noggin in the British Definition is a unit of measurement versus the American Version which was our head in the dictionary. He was also very friendly and knowledgeable about the history of pottery and how it effected society during those contemporary times

You need to find a small, curated, family friendly book store. Well for us it's Galena Book & Paper. I'm a true history buff and my partner is into fiction, opposites in the same place. We both love to browse the selection, read some, then make some choices. Jason, the clerk, welcomed us as we entered and asked if there was anything we we specifically looking for. We smiled and told him we're browsers who've been here before and we're searching for some special reads. After about 45 minutes of browsing we found our choices for this trip. Six books and two note cards(plantable seeds inside) for less than $150. They are always welcoming and have a great variety in all categories. So happy they are in Galena. Then I looked at their prices... WAY over market price for an item I am very informed on. Maybe It's a personal collection they don't really want to sell? I found a lot of the hard good items like this... I won't discourage you from stopping in. You might come across that one of a kind treasure you are looking for and you are willing to pay whatever it takes to get it home... I would encourage you to get off of Main St. and find some of the other off the beaten patch antique and thrift shops the Galena area has to offer. If you want my terribly honest opinion... Head to Missouri. The antique malls and shops in the Springfield, Ozark, and Branson area are second to none! And they don't charge you champagne prices for their beer selection...

I was expecting more boutique and smaller batch cigars, and all they had was the same cigars I've seen everywhere else in the area. The staff was friendly and helpful but since there were no new sticks that I had never seen before, I didn't buy anything. There is no lounge or smoking area. This is also a gift store for things like whiskey, glasses, humidors, generally masculine gift items, which is pretty cool. Given the nature of their location in Galena, it's expected that their prices are higher than you would find in other areas and they are, so no big deal. I can't tell you how disappointed I am that a store sitting on the main drag in a tourist town, doesn't have any new sticks or sticks I haven't seen before.

This building (gift shop is one room; museum is one room) features more than 4000 pieces of glass art, including a piece by Dale Chihuly ( a shelf art type piece, not my favorite here). They start off grouped by color, including varieties of Depression glass. There are some incredible vases and perfume bottles, tiny pieces with incredible detail; at least one Victorian paperweight; a collection of bride baskets (glass-handled ones and glass inserts only; the silver handles required too frequent polishing); a number of Murano Venetian glass pieces; a large selection of beautiful paperweights; a few small statues. Mostly blown glass, thought there is some cut glass in the gift shop. Tour finishes with a UV circuit around the room so the pieces of "uranium" glass are revealed. The gift shop ranges from superaffordable jewelry and smaller bottles to pieces which were obviously de-accessioned. If you like art glass (you know who you are), definitely worth a stop. This started as one woman's collection; our guide was her husband, who is also knowledgeable and will happily tell you about their trips around the world looking for beautiful glass pieces.
