On our way to spend some vacation time in the area, our car's undercarriage cover became loose and was dragging on the road. A quick search found Gallagher's was open on Saturday, and when I called that morning, the woman who answered was cheerful and told me to bring the car by. When I did, even though one of the mechanics was working on another car, he stopped and took 5 minutes out to look at our car, take off the cover and advise us on next steps. We tried to pay him, but he refused to take our money. Given that kind of service and great attitude on a simple fix, I would anticipate they deliver even more superior service and work on bigger repairs, and while I hope we don't need further work done on our car while we're here, I would take the car back to Gallagher's in a hot minute if we did. read more

One hot, humid summer day, on our way out east on Friday evening at 7pm, our brakes got soft and spongy. Finally we pulled into the Shell station in Water Mill and check brake fluid. It was low so I added some*, and on a whim asked someone local if they knew a good mechanic: "Gallagher's, right around the corner", they said. My partner looked it up on Yelp and saw that they were closed but I said, "Let's just drive by and take a look..." Sure enough, Ed Gallagher was there. He pointed to the trail of brake fluid and the drip on the left side and said, "I think I know what your problem is." He said he had a packed schedule at it on Saturday but would at least look at it, and said he'd work Sunday morning if needed to fix it (I had said we needed to head west by then). Saturday by noon they had figured it out (broken brakes line) and fixed it. A bit more money than I would have thought, but Ed explained why and I was satisfied. But Saturday at 9pm we noticed dripping from the car on the right side and there was a bit more Sunday morning. Concerned and not sure what to do, I left at message at 7am at Gallagher's, assuming no one would be there or would call back. Ed called at 8am and said, "I'm 90% sure it's not a problem, but if you want to bring it back in before noon, I'll double-check and make 100% sure. " We did, and he confirmed it was... our air conditioner dripping, as one would expect on a humid summer. And we had a safe drive home. *FYI, I now know that you can't just "add brake fluid". If your brake fluid is low, something is wrong. Get it checked out by someone more knowledgeable than me. read more

Brought them a 1971 MB 3.5 Cab for service to adjust the fuel injection (no easy feat) to stop the smoking . . . they knew what they were doing and did the job without fanfare or drama and the bill was honest and reasonable . . . rare. Will most definitely return. Just wish they were a tad closer and less busy . . . but then I'm obviously not alone in my thoughts of them. read more

Gallagher's Auto in Watermill is absolutely one of the best shops I have ever been to on the East Coast. Ed and his team are extremely professional, knowledgeable, honest and fair. The ladies in the office are extremely professional, greet with a smile and a sweet hello on the phone. Ed will tell you the essentials he needs to do to get the job done, a fair price and completes the work in a timely manner. I own a 1990 Volkswagen Cabriolet and not many people will work on these cars anymore. Ed literally has saved my car and kept my little guy running. In the summer of 2016 my axle had broken and Ed fixed the axle in one day. I highly suggest, without hesitation, to take your car for service At Gallagher's auto. You will not be sorry. read more
