Ron was my very welcoming and friendly driver for the complementary shuttle service. He went above and beyond to take me to/from the gym while being kind and sharing wonderful conversation. I was so impressed with how fast the service was done despite by appointment mishap; I barely had time for a workout! Honestly over my 3 uses they have consistently been the worst mechanic/ techs ive ever been to. Quoted for full replacement systems that then needed extra parts/ money after an extra week with vehicle (not separate issue) Replaced ac system that had a 3 dollar seal fail in the warranty period that they tried to convince me needed a full replacement because a rock hit it (not covered by warranty). The 3 dollar seal and 20 min of work has fixed it for almost a year now. They are also big on telling people they are overdue for maintenance. But when asked what is overdue they will give you a list of things that "could" be overdue.... overall just a shitty business that won't stand behind their work and has shady practices read more

The trade-in process was the first red flag. The vehicle I traded in was later sold by Subaru of Bozeman for nearly $5,000 more than what they gave me. When I raised the issue with sales manager Sean, I received no meaningful explanation. Just a simple take it or leave it. The problems continued. Unlike my other vehicles, the Subaru has been repeatedly targeted by rodents, twice requiring sensor replacements. Rather than offer a preventive solution or acknowledge Subaru's known vulnerability in this area, the dealership simply replaced the damaged part and moved on. No discussion, no solution, just another invoice. That is not service. It is short-term thinking at the customer's expense. Then there is the $175 diagnostic fee. Subaru of Bozeman waives it only if the entire repair is covered under warranty. If even one minor part falls outside that scope, the customer pays the diagnostic fee in full. Most reputable shops apply diagnostic fees toward the actual repair. Here, it functions as another method of generating profit, not as a customer service policy. When I questioned that approach, Service Manager Ben Clifton replied, "Our technicians don't work for free," as if disputing a padded diagnostic charge is some kind of insult. I am, curious, however - do the technicians receive the entirety of the $175.00, or is this just something to support their bottom line? I never asked anyone to work for free. I asked whether $175 was justified for confirming that a rodent once again chewed through a sensor, with no preventive plan and no accountability for the frequency of the issue. Ben's response said everything about how this dealership views its customers. Subaru promotes itself as a brand built on trust, longevity, and loyalty. Subaru of Bozeman has shown no interest in any of those values. From Sean refusal to address low ball trade-in value to Ben Clifton's dismissive and arrogant posture in service, this dealership treats customers as revenue sources, not people. UPDATE: Following my review and email to Subaru's corporate office, Subaru of Bozeman's response was to text me at 6:36 a.m. with, "You're an early riser huh Eric," from Cora Frey--who then proceeded to try to sell me a 2025 Subaru. I brought my vehicle in for a very subtle power fluctuation issue my wife had been complaining about for almost a year and a half. After several times of dropping it off with the service department and them having it for days Subaru Pacific back in Hawthorn, CA always returned it claiming they could not replicate the issue or figure out what was causing the issue. When I took it in to Gallatin in about 4 hours or less we got a call the service department that not only had they replicated the issue they found the source of the problem! And even better we were informed it was most likely covered by our warranty! They made a few calls and then contacted us to let us know it was covered and Subaru was going to put a new transmission in our vehicle free under the warranty. It was there a few weeks and we did have to call a few times to keep up with the process and completion but overall they were very helpful and very friendly. And most importantly they were the only ones who could figure out what was wrong! Great job!! read more

Purchased brand new Subaru Outback. Had everything including financing (not Subaru) done on my end before arriving. 11 days after I drove off the lot, started receiving phone calls asking for my $500 downpayment (which I'd given them my card to charge on day of purchase). 21 days after, received a text saying " Good afternoon Cindy, I am following up to collect your $500 down payment for your 2025 Outback. We can take the payment over the phone via credit or debit card. Please reach out to us at your earliest convenience as we cannot send registration paperwork to the courthouse until we receive the down payment." My $33k purchase was not through Subaru, for the record. To my knowledge, that deposit was accepted and performed when I was in the finance room and had given them my card, right before I left with my paperwork showing my bill of sale. I reached out to the manager that replied " Our new finance clerk, the young gentleman that you met, indeed forgot to run your card for the $500.00 down payment. " This purchase process, which I do not enjoy anyway and I attempted to make as easy and quick as possible on my end (but lasted over 2 hours in office, despite that) was stressful from the beginning and continues to be frustrating almost a month later. From the moment we walked on the property and were half heartedly greeted by a man and woman on the sidewalk, to the long delay with random people milling around the building looking like they wanted to be anywhere except there, to the frustration and obvious irritation from Chad when we didn't purchase any of the additional coverage and policies. Not to mention the salesman making the floor mats in the back dirty with his feet on both sides during the test drive and the round suction marks on the inside of the window from the factory that showed we were lied to about the car being cleaned when it arrived from the factory. Minor, but still disappointing with a brand new vehicle. I checked reviews before I used this dealership. To say that I was completely disappointed with the service and experience is an understatement. Rating based solely on one service visit. Stopped in for one year/12,000 mile service while on 5,000 mile road trip. Happy they could fit me in the next day. Alerted the service manager that my tires were low on air, he reassured me they would check and top off to 35 psi. Service completed quickly, in about an hour. Checked tire pressure as I drove off through the console: 27 psi!! Turned around and drove back to Service desk. Irritated service guy came out to my car to check, pulled it into service bay and pumped up my tires. Checked as I drove off the 2nd time, 35 psi. Note photo below of the receipt, specifically mentions tires. Makes me wonder what else they didn't do. Very disappointed, this could have caused serious problems on a trip like this. read more

Never, EVER, buy from Gallatin Subaru. In 2023 I purchased a 2014 Crosstrek, and was told it was "inspected and mechanically sound." In the 11 months since buying, I've had to fix: - The A/C - The battery (3 times) - All four windows not working - Spark plugs replacement - Oil leak - Another oil leak - Both front control arms I've saved all the documents in case anyone is inclined to not believe this. The dealer will tell you that there was no way they could have known about all the issues, but I refuse to believe that. All this has added up to around $6,000 of necessary repairs and a priceless amount of inconvenience in less than a year. After all this, they had the audacity to offer me a whopping 35% of what I bought it at to trade it in and buy a new car, as if that was some sort of compromise. No thanks. It was evident I wanted to stay within the scope of the extended brake warranty when I brought my Subaru in. Instead, they charged me $125 to read a code for low brake fluid. Clearly, they know their service prices aren't competitive, and try to collect up front what they can. Walk away. Instead, there's Free brake inspection at Eagle Tire and Free code reading at Auto Zone. Alignment is $20 less at College Exxon. And Tom's is probably best for both but needs to be booked 4 weeks out. I had driven 1.5 hours to be steared into initialing for something done elsewhere for free. One expects more than "sharp practice" from a low volume dealer in a small town. Full bull crap. read more

It was spring in Montana and they were filled with mud. Instead they made me pay $1,500 for a new timing belt. Why? I have no idea. Next, I need a new wiper arm, mine is old and broken. I tell them this the first time, they ignore me and tighten it. So now it's broken again and I call them and ask for them to fix it. They never ordered the arm or checked if it was in stock. In early August we walked in ready to buy an Ascent off the lot but the sales guy couldn't keep his mask on correctly. When asked to keep it on he said he couldn't because when he talks it falls down. Maybe get one that fits? I don't remember his name but his desk was toward the back. Half the customers weren't wearing masks either- I'm not sure what the rule in Montana was at the time, but when your customer tells you it is a deal breaker for them and you can't be bothered clearly you don't want their business. Beware! This dealership will sell you a car with a bad transmission! Last December the week before Christmas I found a 2014 Volkswagen Passat this dealership was selling on autotrader.com. My family had recently come into some money and we had spent the entire year previous riding buses and riding our groceries home on a bicycle. I asked them to deliver it if I promised to buy it. They said no. So, I rented a car and drove over. I arrived and test drove the car. Me, being kind of stupid and trusting, dismissed a slip in the transmission for the car losing traction on the ice when I drove it off the lot. The tires were nearly bald so it made sense at the time. My wife was really pressuring me to "just buy something" and I had just spent nearly three hours driving over to Bozeman so, i bought it all cash. 11,500$ which was under book and now I know why. As soon as I got it home I bought studded snow tires for it and gave it to my wife to drive who knows nothing about cars and how they should drive. I had kind of noticed some weird shifting but, was still trusting that the dealership was selling me a good car. Well, come spring we get the snow tires off and put new tires on it then take it on the road to Spokane. This car has some serious shifting problems that only get worse when the AC is on. I brought the car to my local Volkwagen dealership for 40k maintenance, oil change, and full transmission service. The transmission still shifts weird. During the winter with icy roads and with studded tires on, we never really drove the car fast enough to really get a true sense of the transmission problem. Now that it's normal driving conditions and new tires it's obvious this car has transmission problems and if you know anything about cars, a transmission problem means the car is basically trash. A car dealership that will sell you a car a full value knowing it has transmission problems is basically stealing from you because you can never resell this car unless you lie to the next person and hope they're as trusting and bad with cars as I was. Buyer beware! This is basically theft by another name. My mistake because I bought it "as is" and didn't fully realize how I'd been duped until months later. Had I came back immediately then who knows. I'm sure they'd say they would've helped me out but, no knowledgeable car dealership could've missed this transmission problem to begin with. I didn't bother calling to complain to them as I'm sure they say they're sorry but, I bought it as-is. I threw away 11,500$ on a car with about 35k miles on it that has transmission problems which means it's trash. Never buy here unless it's brand new I guess. It also now makes perfect sense why they didn't want to deliver the car to me even though I said I would pay up front. They knew it had problems and weren't sure if i was stupid or not and weren't sure that I wouldn't recognize the transmission problem upon receipt and refuse it. These are maximum shady people. Not disclosing something smaller would be normal car dealership shadiness but, not disclosing transmission problems is as bad as it gets knowing that a bad transmission means the car is trash. read more

Made an appointment for warranty work and was told it would take from 8:30 - 12:00. When I actually dropped the car off, I was told it would take until the end of day. I called the shop at 4:00, and they couldn't locate my car in the system. After being on hold for a long time, I was told "It'll be wrapped up at the end of the day" - I never received a call. I was without a car all weekend, and finally called Monday morning. Again - they weren't able to find my car in the computer right away, and finally told me it was done, and I said I would be there in 30 minutes. When I arrived, it was total chaos, they hadn't attempted to start my car, so after waiting in line to sign paperwork, they go out and and tell me my car won't start. It was just a really terrible customer service experience, and I will avoid this dealership at all costs in the future. read more

I live in CA and my daughter is going to school at MSU. We decided to help her purchase a car in MT so she wouldn't have to drive it from CA. Well from the start of the sales guy hitting on my daughter, the communication and lies that this dealership pulls to sell a car is horrible!!! It took days to get things financed (which I understand due to her not having any credit) but the day we should have been able to sign everything we spent calling and NEVER getting a call back. They had to order a part for the car and told us it was ordered and they didn't order it for two days after we actually signed the paperwork. They NEVER call you back, they lie on items that were supposed to be sold fixed on the car, they actually told us that my daughter picked up the car and she hadn't been even called to come pick up the car over two weeks after we purchased the vehicle. In CA I could drive 20 miles to the next Subaru dealership...but not possible in MT, they know they can play you and they also knew we were in CA, but with the lies we have been told and the horrible communication I wouldn't trust this dealership, also with the reviews I have just read on the service department, my daughter WON'T be going there for service!!!! Even the GM at this dealership is a liar. My husband has worked for Toyota for over 33 years in service and also works for the third largest dealership in CA and 24th in the nation and NEVER, NEVER, NEVER would they ever treat a customer in this manner!!!!! I am sure this review won't mean anything because they are the only dealership in Bozeman...I am going to talk with a lawyer tomorrow!!!! Watch out for this outfit! My daughter brought her 2004 Outback there after it started acting up. After a full day's wait they texted that the problem was the battery and the alternator, and could be repaired for $750. $750! I called asking for an explanation of why it was so much, left two messages, and called a total of 5 times, but nothing. Texted back we declined to have the work done with them. Then got a call saying for the low, low price of $125.00 for the "diagnostic" we could get the car back. No real explanation of why it would take so long and cost so much. These people are just out to take your money, that's it. Btw, two hours later Fosters Mastertech had completed the work for $250.00 less. I will never do any business with Gallatin Subaru again. And, no, it was not a "misunderstanding." You failed to tell my daughter about the charge when she brought the car in, and your app did not note that if we "declined" the service we would still get stuck with an hour (!) of labor. And no, it is not hard to diagnosis a battery and alternator problem. Fosters also diagnosed, and still charged way less. In fact, if your mechanics are so great, why did it take them three times as long to complete a fairly simple repair? The answer is clear to me: you are charging more than the job is worth. While visiting from out of town, had a rock trapped in the brake disc that we were unable to get out. Backing up didn't work and removing the wheel and going at the rock with a wire hook didn't work. I approached Subaru with a clear goal in mind to identify the "cause" of a mechanical issue. I made my point very clear with my service advisor what I was looking for over the phone, and that was information. I gave them my car under those pretenses. After that call I received awful service, the report they gave back to me had absolutely NO mechanical information pretty much just them recommending how I should fix it. (the bill was immense by the way). I then went into the dealer in person to see if I could get more information out of them like they promised they would give me in the first place and I was brushed off by my service advisor who acted like my simple request was as much work as rebuilding an engine. This isn't my first experience with bad service from this dealer. They are in it for the money, go support a small shop where they actually value their customers! read more
