Wonderful store!! I am very impressed with the work Henry and Jessica did on a print I brought to them a few weeks ago. Henry, owner and designer, patiently helped me select a mat making suggestions here and there and we picked out the perfect frame that he just so happened to get in that day. Jessica, the framer, sealed the back of the frame when I told them the print would be hung in our bathroom. Henry suggested a UV protected glass and we both came up with the idea of keeping the artist's name intact which would require cutting out a piece of the mat and Jessica did an expert job of doing that. They offered a 20% summer time discount and although it was a bit spendy, it is worth every cent. The framed print was a gift for my BF and his jaw dropped when he saw it, as did mine. I love supporting a local business and can't wait to get back to give them more business. Their combined customer service is stellar plus they are both very talented. Henry, a new owner and designer along with Jessica his talented framer have created two beautiful frames for me of original art work. One work is from the 18C, a large-ish watercolor, and the other a modern oil painting on board. Each was a challenge and they were quite different from one another. I am very pleased by the quality, the frame selection, and the care for the art work. The frames enhance the art work. It doesn't hurt that Gallerie Hudson is kind of a laid back business and Henry and Jessica are nice to converse with. Overall, excellent service and very good work, thus 5 stars. I like this frame shop very much. Very nice staffers and owners. I am sure that materials for framing from the most simple frames to the extremely ornate are pricey but to nicely framed a 13" x 20" document for upwards of 300+ dollars just seems absurd to me. I guess if budget was no issue which has been true for me at other times in my life because I have paid upwards of $300 for other items for me this time I had to go on a low budget course and spent $40 for a very nicely framed personal document. I'm glad they had options for both the high income and moderate income person. And surprisingly every time I go there I find a parking spot. That's fantastic. I don't know if it's just pure luck. Because Jersey Avenue and Newark Avenue is quite a bustling intersection. But good to have a little bit of luck navigating the entrance to downtown Jersey City. read more

Normally I would give this place 4-5 stars - I have always gotten excptional service - today I came in to pick up a piece and have another redone - yes I was a regular - the operative word WAS. The gentleman who was "working" could not retieve my picture - and was unable to assist in remounting the picture. He said the other person would be back in 15 minutes - 30 minutes later I was done my errands and still no show - needless to say I took my picture and left. If I hadnt already paid for the other I would let them have it.... I will be back to pick up my picture but thats it !!!! read more

I want to love this shop and thought I did after my first interactions with the person who helped me pick out mats and frames. I would have given them 5 stars after my initial experience. I spent about $1200. Since that first encounter, things went a little downhill. I had to stop by and call several times for the two pieces that were a "rush" and needed in a little less than a month. When I stopped by the day before I needed them, I was told by one of the framers that they would call me when my stuff was ready, but it would be ready the next day. I didn't hear from them the next day, and called them and was told that they called the wrong person who maybe had my same initials (?!). I love the framing on both items I got. But now I find myself not having heard a word about the other three pieces, which should have been done by now. I walked there to try and see what is what and the holiday hours posted on the door are confusing (the sign said that they were open Tuesday - Friday December 31, but December 31 is a Saturday). I called twice at noon time and eventually got a automated VM that just says "the party I am trying to reach" is not available. Seems like a business would have a specific outgoing VM message. I tried to email, but the customer service email listed on their website (info@galleriehudson.com) does not work -- I got a bounce back that it was undeliverable. I feel a bit left out in the cold and its only by stopping by that I can see if my stuff is done. That seems not right after spending so much $ there. They seem to do a nice job and if I get the rest of my items I may bump my review back up to 4 stars, but I wish I could have given them 5. read more

I agree with some of what both reviewers, John C. & Andre P. have said. After MANY times being a customer here, I've got to admit that the main guy - I think it's Phillip - is awesome. He tries to help anyone on a budget, he will sometimes help you out if you're in a rush (although he doesn't like to rush!), will even do things most framers are not flexible about just to accomodate his repeat customers. They go out of their way for me, so I give them high recommendation and they always make my stuff like super nice and professional. I have on one occasion not received my phone call about my work being done, but that's why you should follow up anyway. Was doing a bit of Sunday afternoon meandering and wandered into this shop. I've never wandered randomly into a framing shop before, but this small storefront had some beautiful collage/pop art and unique paintings in addition to the typical frames and mats. Have not done business here, but did eavesdrop (yes, I did so what) on a couple that was clearly a repeat customer. The shopkeepers seemed extremely attentive and detailed and the customers looked very happy to be parting with their hard earned money. Left a great impression on this passerby. I try to use local JC shops to support the community- BIG mistake here! Do NOT go here to get your framing done. My antique frame was cracked and now is unusable. They guided me to use black custom matting and it looks terrible. They also NEVER called when the frame was finished. BAD service- made up all these excuses of why it was my fault the frame broke. Our advertising agency used to send the typical agency gifts to our clients to show gratitude and/or excitement upon finishing up a big project. A few months ago we decided to get a couple of our larger clients custom made frames with images of print pieces or video stills we did for them that quarter. The frames were gorgeous! I spoke to Phillip (owner) about what we were thinking and he worked everything up and gave us sizes and suggestions, basically helping the entire project come together. It did not take that long to have an entirely custom made gift made especially for your client come together start to finish. Our clients were over ecstatic and have them hanging up in their offices. I stopped into Gallerie Hudson on Saturday to see if they could cut a couple of custom mats for some new prints my girlfriend and I had just picked up. It was quite busy when we first walked in; so much so that we decided to grab some lunch while other customers were being helped. When we returned, Philip talked with us about what we wanted, and was extraordinarily helpful. He went WAY above and beyond to ensure we got exactly what we wanted at a MORE THAN fair price. He even offered to mount our prints with new custom mats into our cheap 50% off Michaels frames! The best part is that from start to finish, everything was done in less than an hour. I couldn't believe how pleasant my experience was here. The owner seriously cares about his customers and wants to make them happy. Upon pickup, the frames were even wrapped in cellophane to protect them on the short 2 block walk home. I have already recommended this place to a friend who is looking to have custom framing done, and would highly encourage anyone else who is thinking about getting something done to stop in and check this place out. I brought a large poster to be framed, and when I arrived there was a sign on the door saying "BACK AT 4:30". This was mildly annoying, since I had walked over and it was a cold day. So the next day I called and asked if they were open, and specifically if they would be there all afternoon. I was told that they'd be there until 7pm, so again I walked over with my poster. Well, no luck. Another sign on the door said "BACK IN 5 MINUTES". No thanks. if they treat potential customers so carelessly, how will they treat my art work? These guys are great! I first found them when I needed a super-fast turnaround for some framing for my boss. Not only did they do the work in record time, my boss was blown away by the attention to detail (triple-matted, unique finish frame etc) and the great value. Phillip, who I think is the owner, makes you feel like you are the most important customer. I have brought over a dozen pieces to him over the past year, including a series of antique cranberry labels, for which he came up with an incredible layout and helped restore a number of them. I, on the other hand, have gone to Phillip to have photos framed for two exhibitions and recommend him highly. On time, fit my budget, had just what I needed, got excellent guidance (although I'm an accomplished photographer I m only an "emerging" art photographer and get nervous when I'm making framing decisions, especially when there's time pressure), and Phillip has excellent employees who are just as helpful and astute. Did I mention that I didn't get a hard sell about anything? A good selection of ready-made frames helped me frame some photos for my first solo show quickly and inexpensively, and when the supplier didn't have the exact framing material I wanted for one of the custom jobs, Phillip did expert work framing my photo with an alternate and then cheerfully put the photo in the desired frame material after the show when it came back into stock, and it looks only a bit more glorious. So no quibbles here. Gallerie Hudson is a frame shop I highly recommend. It was recommended to me by a fellow photographer who said it is popular with artists, and I've found it to be so over the past several months. read more
