The woman on the phone quoted me $30. About 10 minutes later I arrived at the store with the frame and diploma. The young man at the counter was very polite. I explained the same thing again and after thinking for a few seconds he told me the price would be $50. I explained that I had literally just been quoted $30 on the phone. He was understanding and went to get the woman I had spoken with. When she came out, the explanations for the price change kept shifting. First she said the diploma was "bigger than standard." Then she said they had to "figure out how to take the frame apart." Then she said it would take more time because of the size. None of this made sense because I had already described exactly what I needed done when I called. Nothing about the job had changed between the phone call and walking into the store. I even offered to meet in the middle and pay $40 just to resolve it quickly. She refused and insisted on $50. At that point it felt like a classic bait-and-switch: quote one price over the phone, then raise it once the customer is standing there with a large frame and has already made the trip. I declined and walked out. I then walked up the block to another framing store, explained the exact same situation, and they charged $30 -- the exact price I had originally been quoted here. The whole thing was done neatly in about 15 minutes. The young man at the counter here seemed kind, but the way the pricing changed after I arrived felt extremely unprofessional. There are other framing shops nearby that will give you a price and actually stand by it.

I'd say about forty percent of the store consists of young children's accessories, apparel and developmental toys. The rest of the store is focused on toys that could be children's toys though also considered collectibles for most adults. These include Sonny Angel, smiski, Miffy, Calico Critters, Totoro, Hello Kitty, Snoopy and Woodstock, and Monchichi, in plush, keychain, miniature and regular size forms. I appreciated their assortment of nostalgic 80-90s mini toys, like plastic dinosaurs, bouncy balls with glitter, knick knacks you might find in an 80s kids birthday party goodie bag. The staff seemed attentive when I walked in, one person on the floor, straightening merchandise, saying welcome to people as they walked in, also asking if anyone needed help, another staff member behind the counter in the back. *These mini baby dolls wearing nothing but different hats and head gear (not the orthodontic kind, more like cute animal ears or flowers on their heads) have been blowing up and seems like so many gen-Zers are collecting them.

ROOQ is the place to go for your framing needs. Seriously! First of all Jawed was actually open on a Sunday!! We walked in with the piece of art that needed to be framed and he offered us several beautiful and appealing options. The frame we liked the most was a little out of our price range and without hesitating Jawed pulled out options similar to what we really liked that were less expensive. There was never an attempt to upsale or push us in the direction of a more expensive frame -- which I appreciated. You could tell that Jawed enjoys what he does and seeks to provide the greatest service and framing options possible that fit within your aesthetic and price range. The framing process took less than a week and Jawed conveniently emailed when the piece was ready to be picked up. The quality of the work was exquisite and I couldn't be happier with how it looks. Over the last couple of years we have worked with several different faming companies. I am glad that I stumbled upon ROOQ and will absolutely go back for any framing needs that come up in the future. Jawed and his two sisters are a delight to work with and deliver professional service with high-quality work at reasonable rates. My first encounter was for a plaque for the retiring president of the Paris American Club. Jawed was the only one who could deliver it in time for the presentation by the French ambassador. Recently, I helped redo Monte's Restaurant, a classic Italian in the Village for 97 years. We had some 68 assorted photos of Mosconi family members and customers, including Mayor Koch, which we wanted to upgrade and standardize. The mahogany wood frames with crème matting, wire hangers, and even little pads to prevent them from moving or scratching the walls, have really impressed the regular customers - they can't believe they're the same old photos! Jawed consulted on design, worked within my budget and delivered them on schedule. I heartily recommend Rooq for any framing needs, they really care about their work, providing the level of quality and service one would expect from a much more expensive boutique. read more

I neede to frame a large, expensive picture, and Rooq did a phenomenal job. They were extremely knowledgeable, courteous, and managed my expectations well. I highly recommend Rooq to anyone. They let us borrow a few sample frames for a day to see how they looked at home. Once we picked one, they priced it for us (price was very reasonable), ordered the frame, and once it arrived called to schedule the framing appointment (i did not want to leave the picture there for two weeks). Jawed did it himself, it only took him an hour, he was precise and detailed, knew exactly what he was doing, explained everything very well. When i was at the shop, other customers came and went, and it seemed that everyone was very happy with their orders, and that Rooq staff were very friendly and professional. I loved it. read more

When we first walked into Rooq, my husband and I were worried that we had walked out of our price range. However, Jawed, the owner, was wonderful. He was friendly, patient, and intuitive: after an hour of looking, we ended up going with the very first frame Jawed picked out for us! As first time framers, we were terrified at the cost, but he was fantastic with the reality of the price, he explained in detail where the costs came from, so we could make more informed decisions. I am so happy to have found ROOQ. It is owned by a young, lovely family of siblings. I went in with one poster and found the environment warm and open. The feedback and service I received were second-to-none. I have since gone back with other pieces including three Folon serigraphs that I hadn't had framed in more than 30 years. They reframed and totally refreshed them. I love looking at other people's artworks and even found a new artist and purchased one of her pieces. And the prices are very reasonable. Realness. Let's do this. I came here with a friend when this place first opened. The owner was really friendly, so I came back to get something framed for my one bedroom hole in the wall that I share with said friend. He wasn't pushy, didn't try to get something out of my price range, and he was almost too honest. I learned more about framing than I really want to know. But at least I'm certain that every other place I've gotten stuff framed at has gouged me (price-wise! that's not what she said). Which is, you know, a comfort. Anyway, I recommend. I wasn't quite sure what I needed and the owner was able to quickly pick up on what i was describing for one of my paintings. He has great taste. And even put my painting on the wall.
