After yesterday's storm the "fixes" that the maintenance crew used previously have failed and the ceiling has caved. The water is now spreading in the ceiling to multiple rooms of the penthouse causing massive leaks and water build up. This is now impacting apartments below us. The maintenance crew has been unresponsive for mitigation actions. They will not cover any of the furniture or tarp the failing roof areas to mitigate further damages, after multiple requests. They have also used our beautiful china and our trash cans to catch water from the leaks. Finally, no one will speak with us about the remediation plan.

For those interested in the move-in process, it was relatively seamless. I was able to reserve the freight elevator and use the back alleyway for unloading. While the building itself is OLD, it is in remarkable shape. The units and facilities have all been recently updated; the quality of the appliances and renovations in my unit leave little to be desired. The only maintenance request I filed for a window AC unit was fulfilled the next day. I will say that I have had several concerns that other reviewers have shared about this property. I raised those concerns with the head of maintenance and building staff and learned that my concerns were already addressed or in the process of being handled. So, while Montclair might not be communicating to tenants that they are addressing our concerns, they are being handled. Some highlights from my first four months: - The main elevators were only down for maintenance once, and the service elevator was still available. - I was only here for one fire alarm, which occurred in the middle of the night. I have raised concerns about fire safety devices and procedures in the building, all of which are being handled. - I have raised concerns about lighting outside the building. Some lights have been replaced, with more planned for replacement. - There have been two occasions where there was a fly infestation in the laundry facilities. I was told this was due to a leak. Both times, the flies were removed using traps. The traps were effective. I much prefer the traps to an extermination solution as the facilities were still usable during the removal of the flies, and no harmful chemicals were used. - Montclair has hosted several events since I lived here, including complimentary wine Wednesdays, complimentary breakfasts, and a balloon glow watch party on the roof. The events always have a good turnout, and everyone I have met at the events has been great. Disclaimer: while I was not a tenant when another tenant was robbed at gunpoint in the building, I inquired about the incident upon moving-in. Since the incident, the exterior doors have been programmed to lock faster. There are already exterior cameras. As someone who understands the building owners cannot prevent crime in the area, I am satisfied with what they are doing to deter it from the property. Overall, I am satisfied with my experience at Montclair. I am happy with my unit as well as the staff, who has accommodated every request I have had. The reason for the four star review is the lack of communication with tenants. I would suggest to other tenants that they take the time to meet the building staff and bring forth their concerns. I believe Montclair will listen. Since my lease is a year long, I will update this review as things change. I am also be happy to reply to specific questions on my review.
