WOW! You can find Kim Kodali inside this Gallery of Salons. For the past 6 years now, I've never let another hair stylist touch my hair. She goes above and beyond any hair stylist I've ever met. She will make you look like a million bucks from hair, to hair styling, brow shaping, & professional makeup. Her perfectionism makes her the best at giving cuts. If you say you don't want her to cut a lot of, she won't. If you continue to go to her, you'll see a significant difference in the health of your hair. Her motto is to always have her clients looking their absolute best so she does not offer any products that harm your hair. She uses amazing organic and healthy products (and won't even let us get perms because it's so damaging.) Her prices are lower than industry standard and does this so that everyone can afford to look their best. I WON'T LET ANYONE TOUCH MY EYEBROWS UNLESS IT'S WITH KIM! She's SUPER clean and the wax never hurts. Let her know if you like them thicker or thinner. She does a great job of shaping and just cleaning them up! I started seeing Hector 15+ years ago when I had my own real estate business. I saw him every week or two to wash/style my relaxed African American hair, which was just below my shoulders. PROS Hector is very talented and knowledgeable about growing healthy hair. He doesn't use a lot of harsh chemicals or "grease" that weighs your hair down. I always looked amazing and got tons of compliment on how silky my hair looked. CONS 1) He usually runs at least a half hour late, sometimes more. If you're expected to be at your appointment on time, he shouldn't overbook. This was consistent, so I always knew I'd need to add at least 20-30 minutes to my appointments. He's one of the more expensive stylists in town and only takes cash, so you'd think customer service would be a little better. 2) He likes to cut your hair short, even if he knows you're growing it out. This was something all of his clients and other stylists knew. It's everyone's main complaint if any. After seeing hector consistently for a decade, my husband would often wonder how you can go in one week and be fine with hair growing almost to your bra, then have a bob cut (literally) the next week. the reason is because he cuts your hair to the shortest strand. His philosophy is that hair should not be thin on the ends and it's healthiest when it's all in line with each other, which is fine as long as it matches your philosophy and you don't care about coming in with "long" hair and leaving with it being chopped above your shoulders. 3) This all leads to #3. I was a steady, loyal client who always paid cash (as he required) and drove 20-30 minutes from South Austin to the Gallery of Salons in North Austin for a decade, but he got offended (I assume) one day when I hinted that I haven't been able to grow my hair out since seeing him. After that, he stopped returning my calls until I got the hint. He only has one email and one phone, which is clearly on their website, so I respect the fact that he perhaps didn't like my hint, but it would be more professional to simply inform me that if I want to see someone else, I'm welcome. Instead, I feel that after almost 2 decades of loyalty that I was thrown to the side. Overall, he's one of the best in Austin as long as you have time for 2-hour appointments just to wash/style hair, don't mind paying cash, can afford to pay $95 cash for a relaxer with trim, and can keep your opinion to yourself. Otherwise, you may want to see Brenda Gipson at Gallery of Salons. She was just a couple rows over from Hector and I haven't left her a review, but she grew my hair out nicely, was kind, and always on time. I haven't seen her since a few years ago when her elderly mom got sick and she wasn't as available or returning calls. read more

My hubby has been going to her for years. I started seeing her last year, and I've never walked away un happy. I recently went VERY short with my hair, and I love it. She did a fantastic job. I asked for a natural looking red hair (close to strawberry blonde) , but I left with radical punk rocker magenta hair & I have a wedding in two months!! I thought about it for a few days & decided to ask for my money back but she said she would think about it & never called me back. Shelly never apologized & said there is no telling how color will turn out. Basically that it is a mystery. I have never placed a negative review, but this was necessary. This review is for the lovely and talented Taryn, who works in Gallery of Salons. She is the only person I've worked with in Gallery of Salons, which is a fine establishment. A few years ago now, my gorgeous Amazon of a sister-in-law, a 6-foot Caribbean Venus, got a really fabulous haircut. And I coveted that hair. So I printed 30+ photos of Rihanna with a very similar short hairstyle, and off to the salon I toddled. When Taryn escorted me to her chair for the first time, I did not yet realize my good fortune. But I got an inkling when I showed her the 30+ photos of Rihanna -- and she didn't laugh. Understanding that I am a late-thirties, cinderblock-proportioned woman of Swiss/Irish/English descent, you can see that we were off to an auspicious start. Now, beyond waving around photos of Rihanna, my ability to communicate about my hair is pretty much limited to grunts and gestures. But Taryn completely got it. The fluttering in my stomach quickly subsided as she went to work. She checked in at yea-or-nay moments and had an intuitive feel for my vision - better than I did, I think. When it came time for the final mirror-twirl, I felt like a stocky Cinderella under my fairy-godmother's wand. Rainbows, tweeting birds, chorus of angels, all that. Perfection. Because Taryn is magical; it's as simple as that. I can't speak to Taryn's touch with longer hair, as my husband refuses to trim his waist-length dreads, but I will happily testify to her supernatural gift with short hair. She knows every nuance - both how to ease it a bit longer in winter and how to shear it breezily short in summer, keeping just the right vibe. She effortlessly interprets her clients' inarticulate muttering into seriously cute hair. Taryn is a master of hair texture - she wrangles my cowlicks with a foolproof cut that still works even when it's a bit overdue for a trim. And she pretends that she can't find my white hairs, which I find endearing. I tip pretty well, but still. Taryn is a very friendly gal and will chat as much or little as you like. And if you share my hair-talking impairment, Taryn will teach you to say things like "number two shield," just in case. Kim was sooo amazing! I called around noon on the only day I had in town. It happened to be her day off but she came in for me on super short notice. She cut and highlighted my hair, and waxed my eyebrows. I went from frumpy, umkempt mama to stylish, hot mama! Cindy Herrera is the first person to be knowledgeable about my super frizzy curly hair. I left the salon not knowing that I had that kind of curl, I think it was curlier than when I was a kid and I had ringlets. I left with frizz-free shiny bouncy hair. This place has it all. Massages, haircuts, nails, products, you name it you can find someone who does it there. The concept is great, each stylist has their own suite and they can set their own price and decorate how they want. It is very classy looking on the inside and all the ladies I've dealt with there have been lovely and fairly priced. The restroom is always clean and the vending machines are always full. I'm very impressed by the suite owners and the salon management. I wish their website was a little more up to date so you could find a particular service without walking all around the place, but other than that I highly recommend it!! I love the Gallery of Salons for the fact that it is a one stop shop. You can have a complete spa day there. No it might not be as fancy as going to a pool side but they seem to have anything and everything from just your basic manicures and hair stylist to some of the most complex facials I have ever expierence. What I really like is there is a small suite for each hair stylist. So you feel like you actually have one on one with them and not the world is watching or listening to your conversation. I always go to Rhayne to get my hair done. He is amazing. He can do about anything and everything. He cuts, color, washes, sew in weaves, and etc...He knows what he is doing adn gives great information. He carries fantastic products and works fantastic with the customers. I am biracial (half black/half white) and my hair grows very slow. My curls are tight and trust me...there are times I want to just shave myself bald. He has worked miracles on my hair and have found me products that work with my hair and do not over process or break it. I recommend going to him to anyone! Worst haircut I've ever gotten! I was referred to Abel for a men's haircut, I don't know if he only specializes in tapering because he kept asking me 100 times if I wanted it tapered. I told him I wanted a decent sizored haircut because I need to keep it professional, I asked for the spilt line where where I comb my hair, he made it super wide!. I found her last year when she was at a different salon (Peace, Love, Nails) and I was looking to make the switch to a shellac manicure (after developing an allergy to acrylic nails). I tried several different nail techs at PLN, she was the only one that I trusted to do my nails exactly like I wanted them. One of the other techs at PLN actually made my cuticles bleed because they scraped them so hard, another needed glasses and painted over my cuticles (it looked like a home manicure) and another applied the shellac so thick it bubbled up under the lights -- I had to have it done three times in one sitting to get it right. All the acetone fried my nails. Not a good experience at all. I was going to give PLN one more chance before finding another salon when they booked me with Jenny, and thankfully she saved the day. Now that she has her own salon at Gallery of Salons, the experience is SO MUCH better. It's like a special little treat to have your nails done in your own personal little spa--there's no one else around chattering, no loud movies blaring, no one folding towels or talking on the phone, or cleaning around you... it's really a treat. I visited Jenny at Gallery of Salons on Friday for a shellac mani and pedi and as always, it was a delight. Jenny gave me the best pedicure in a really relaxing chair and bowl -- NO kidney punching massage chair and no smells of cleaning solutions. She uses wonderful products, did a great job sloughing off the old skin and gave me an absolutely awesome pedicure. My shellac manicure was AS ALWAYS, perfect! My shellac manis from Jenny always last at least three weeks (and I often stretch it to four) and I am extra hard on my nails. I get so many compliments on my manis and pedis from Jenny. If you want a 5 star mani, pedi, go to Jenny because she is that good. I can't imagine going to anyone else. read more

Wow. ELAYNA really exceeded my expectations. To validate my review, I was a hair model for two years of my life, my mom and grandma both were hairstylist so I feel I know a thing or two about hair. I decided to go in for the first time and I've never been so happy with my color and cut, you can tell she's got A LOT of experience, as it took her no time at all to get my hair sectioned and all the bleach distributed evenly and saturated. She knew precisely how long to let the bleach sit, and mixed it with the right levels. This lady is very skilled! Her studio space is very comfortable, she has awesome eqpt. She didn't cut any corners with my color, treated my hair after the bleach, used toner, really took care of me. She knew exactly what products to use for pulling out the orange in my brown hair. She really is meticulous and precise, giving me that "Hollywood look" I ran into an ex flame shortly after having my brows done by Kim, and even without a trace of make up on, I felt really confident that he was totally eating his heart out! Having my eyebrows shaped by Kim is one of the best things I have ever done to improve my appearance. Seriously, I have never recieved so many compliments in my life!
