This salon is very clean and feels homey. When I moved to Austin I was hesitant to try a new salon because I'm very sensitive when it comes to my hair. I made an appointment with Lauren and haven't been to anyone else since. I literally followed her to Layer Beauty from a previous salon. Not only is Lauren amazing but everyone is so welcoming and friendly. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a new hair stylist! She won't let you down!! After your appointment, there are many stores available for getting quick errands (pharmacy, shipping, gifts, grocery, etc) completed - and while you look great ;-) I look forward to every appointment and walk out feeling refreshed and looking gorgeous. This review isn't meant to be malicious, but I felt the need to be honest with people researching new salons. If you're looking for a salon that does good hair color, look elsewhere. The techniques used for blonding/balayage at Layer Beauty are just not good. This is a tiny salon charging downtown Austin prices for hair I had to eventually get fully corrected by another stylist elsewhere. The staff is incredibly sweet and friendly, but I was upset after each of my coloring visits here. There were stringy bits of blonde everywhere on the back of my head as well as a large band, and the toner that was used used turned my hair a gray-ish color (that I didn't notice until I was outside of the salon). My hair was also extremely brassy after my first coloring appointment here. If you're in North/Central Austin, look for another salon. read more

I followed my longtime hair stylist, Dan Logan, to Layer and I'm so happy I did! Granted, I'd follow Uber-gifted Dan to the moon and back to make sure my tresses are looking bright and chic. But I also love the vibe of Layer. It's a lovely, spacious boutique that makes you feel pampered without the pretentiousness. Friendly staff -- and text reminders too! But getting back to Dan, y'all... He's amazing. Go see him. You won't regret it. I've been seeing him for several years to style my short (let's go even shorter today, Dan!) blonde (let's go even lighter today, Dan!) locks. He keeps this middle-ager looking hip (reserve your comments, kids) and feeling good. And he has the kindest spirit and is an excellent conversationalist, which makes my two hours fly by way too quickly! Thrilled to have found a new hair home at Layer! Now that I no longer live in Austin I will reveal the best stylist for long haired blondes :) Tricia Meier at Layer Beauty is seriously talented! She knows how to add dimension when needed by lightening or darkening to keep your hair looking top notch. Plus she knows how to make long-haired girls feel like their hair has had a trim without looking like any length was lost. Seriously an artist! When I had a last minute trip to Austin and Tricia happened to be out of town I saw Mandy and she was great with my blonde hair as well (she did a touch up color but I didn't do a trim). Layer Beauty is an amazing atmosphere to spend your time while getting your hair done. The space is bright, so beautiful and inviting. One amenity I can't get over is the reclining chairs for the shampoo bowls. It makes getting your hair washed that much more relaxing. I get my hair done with Tricia and can honestly say I will be her client as long as possible. She has such a talent for color and cuts, has wonderful style and is an incredible person to talk with.
