I was ecstatic to find a piece of Salem in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Gallows Hill Spirits is an excellent distillery. I've had it bookmarked for a while, so I'm glad that we got to visit. It's warm and inviting. It's also aptly named because anyone who grew up in Salem knows that Gallows Hill was the place to go drink. Behind the bar is a replica of Salem's Witch House and there is a replica of the sign by the door, which really provides that Salem feel. The decor provides an overview of the Salem Witch Trials, including naming those who were murdered, which is important. We ordered two drinks, both of which were excellent. Next time we return, we'd like to taste some of the spirits individually. We met with Robert, the proprietor, for a tour, and he provided a high-level yet comprehensive overview of the trials. He started this distillery because he is descended from one of the executed and during the tour, he shares his familial connection and how he discovered it. Robert is very friendly and welcoming. It's wicked cool to find some of Salem outside of New England, especially in my partner's home area, and especially a place that takes our history seriously and shares the truthful version. The delicious drinks are a fun bonus. You absolutely must visit this distillery when in/near the Lehigh Valley. read more

We live in California but family gets us to Allentown at least once a year and we're always looking for unique things to do, drink, and eat! As fans of experiences and liquor tastings, we were delighted to discover Gallows Hill Spirits! It's such a great value too...for one relatively low "couples" price my wife and I got to 1) sample all their spirits, 2) get an interesting tour of the place which told the proprietor's family story and connection to the Salem witch trials, 3) each get a cocktail at the end, and 3) given a souvenir flask! I think all of this was $29 which is, at least where we're from in Southern Cal, less than the price of 2 cocktails on their own. It was a great value and experience. The spirits were fun to taste...the owner himself gave us the tour which was a really fascinating look at his family history connecting all the way back to the Salem Witch Trials. (The space itself is decorated with that theme...well done and fun to be in.) The tour also included bringing us into the back to see the entire process of where the spirits are created. And of course, a finishing cocktail was included. My wife and I enjoyed "The Godfather" and "Jamaican Bobsled" and we definitely left happy. if you're looking for something fun and unique to do in Allentown, definitely check out Gallows Hill Spirits...the tour was an incredible value, but you can also just show up during opening hours to get a drink. read more

Flew up from Florida to attend a social event here. This place was spotless clean with a warm and inviting atmosphere. They are a distillery with an impeccable selection of spirits as well as several mocktail options that are amazing! The staff are very impressive making each drink experience a curated work of art. The vibe is relaxed,welcoming and congenial. You can easily indulge in a quiet date nite,a reunion with friends or socialize with the other patrons in a welcoming environment. When you walk through this immersive bar you are transported back into the days of the Salem Witch Trails era. The owner of this bar is related to someone in the Trials. A few times throughout the years we have visited Gallows Hills, and we had a nice experience. We have mentioned Gallow Hills to family and friends and also have done their tours. Yesterday, on the other hand, was a different story. We walked in on a Thursday evening and it was game night. I'm sure they had their regular clientele, which we are not and it showed. The owner and bartender were very cold and we felt like we were not welcomed. Whenever we would go there, we always get a few drinks and a few bottles to take home. I love their leminchello, Bourbon and Vodka, but because of how we were treated we decided not to support them. It's unfortunate that we had that experience, but we rather go to the many Distilleries that we have throughout the lehigh valley where we are treated well, and give them our business. We will never step foot into Gallow Hills, and we are very much ok with that!! read more

What a great experience! I've been wanting to visit Gallows Hill Spirits for a long time, and a group of us went for a girl's night. We enjoyed a full tasting, and the spirits offered are all smooth and delicious, not to mention creative! After that, we selected cocktails (the Hawaiian Punch was delicious and certainly packed a punch) and got to listen to the owner's "tour" of the Salem Witch Trials and his family's personal connection to the trials. Salem Witch Themed distillery which proved to be a super fun and unique experience . Upon entry we were treated to a tour of the distillery and provided the historical back story of the distillers relationship to the Salem Witch Trials. This was actually my first distillery tour and I thought it was super cool to see the effort that goes into running a distillery . Hard to believe that this is a one man show ! After our tour we did a sampling of the entire menu for 5 dollars ! The soothsayer vodka was super smooth and went down very easy . I wasn't a fan of the white rum ( I just don't care for rum much ) but the spiced rum tasted like late fall in a shot ! The real standout for me however was the Divination gin . I never really cared for gin before I tried this one. It was very smooth and didn't taste like pine Sol like I was expecting. Last but not least , although I personally am not a fan of sweet liquor, the limoncello had me thinking I was at a beach on the isle of Capri . It was super lemony and not syrupy like I was expecting . To finish my experience I had the Witches Tea Party cocktail made of earl grey vodka ! It was delicious , quite possibly the best vodka cocktail this girl has had ! This distillery really impressed me! The theme , the quality of the drinks , the attention to detail, everything about this place is a 5 star experience. Everything you would expect to pay lots more for or find in a big city. A crazy little gem on Mack Blvd. Came by this place after seeing a sign at a local Taco Truck. AMAZING. They've got a wide selection of spirits. I was a serious fan of some of their spiced things. Robert and his staff were excellent. We went for the "Salem witch tour" and tasted some of the House spirits . Delicious. Great presentation on the history of the "witches" of the Salem, it was captivating. I would definitely recommend signing up for the tour. We also were taught some information on distilling certain alcohols. This man is passionate and great with his knowledge of chemistry. If I had this man as my chemistry teach back in undergrad, probably would have done better. Do yourself a favor and go try this great business. read more

Went here Friday night expecting it to be like every other distillery tour (short tour with not much information). Bob sure surprised me! The tour was very informative and the history was extremely interesting. He's laid back and knows his information backwards and forwards. The spirits were unlike anything else around here. Phenomenal experience for my first time there! I've had some of their spirits at other places, heard glowing reviews of the distillery and finally had the chance to go. What started as a plan for a drink and some food quickly turned into an amazing experience thanks to the staff, owner and customers that led to a night of laughs and fun.
