The standouts for me were the Pinot Noirs - I'd advise trying glasses from both vineyards if you can, as they're quite unique from one another. We also really enjoyed their Riesling and Pinot Gris - nice and crisp, just enough bite to tantalize the tongue without overpowering your taste buds. In all, Setter offers more than 20 wines that can fit most guests tastes. The bottles all provide very solid value for their price points and are worth bringing home. While in exploring in Kutztown,we saw a sign on the road directing to this winery - and as I saw Setters in the picture,I knew this place would be friendly to dogs,which is what we're mostly after when on roadtrips. The winery is huge and tucked far enough from the main roads. They have a selection of wines for tastings (also an option to order maccarons on a side,to pair with!),stage for live bands and - get this - even their own little fended dog park. We ordered a selection of wines for tasting with maccarons while our doggo enjoyed company of a few other energetic pups in the dog park. Really liked the wines (dry,semi-sweet,sweet-they have it all) and even got a discount for maccarons that were their last ones in stock and a tad crumbled. Thumbs up! read more

They always have some interesting snacks available and the tasting room servers are upbeat and knowledgeable providing for an engaging experience. We enjoy their whites. One suggestion is that food trucks should be positioned so that their generator is away from the building. Nice patio day, we arrived among a music festival. The atmosphere is nice, with ample parking, patio seating, pizza on site, and lots of drinking options. The tasting took awhile, they only had two pourers-which I wonder was a fluke that day, because they were clearly overwhelmed. $5 for 5 wines, self-select, we chose among 9 whites, 2 roses, 5 reds, and 3 sweets. Saturday July 8, 2017 ... 6 of our Bad Moms Club (lol) attended the Cupcake & Wine Pairing for $12.50 ... 3 but size cupcakes were amazing paired with 3 wines ... then switch from 2 wines for a 4th tasting. I think it is a touch over priced, as I believe maybe 1 once or less was provided for each wine. As expected from their website, they truly do specialize in Dry Wines ... their semi dry was still very dry. If you love dry wines - you will love their selection. I personally like semi dry ... very much in the middle of the two extremes. I did buy 2 bottles, however I will need to pair them with a meal when I have friends over. I believe they are a high quality vineyard. The staff was great ... we were running right up to tasting time, I called to let them know and they were very accommodating. We then followed up with a tasting for $5 ... they have a large selection of very dry wines. We packed a beautiful picnic lunch to enjoy with our purchased wine ... the view is beautiful and clean. Minus the dog poop from the very friendly black lab. The pavilion space with the high tables was perfect for our Bad Moms afternoon. I drove up here from Bethlehem during a snow storm because there was nothing else to do. We took great pictures of the snow covered vineyard. It was great that they were open! We enjoyed a tasting, sampling all they had to offer. I must say, that for me, I enjoyed less wine than I liked, but that was my personal opinion. I defiantly left wishing I liked more of the wines that were offered. The staff was great and I endded up buying two bottles of the two wines I did like. Upon visiting Nicole was super kind and very hospitable. She gave us great recommendations and truly knew the wine. I'm hesitant to review Blair Vineyards because we want to keep it our secret, but the wine is too good to keep to ourselves. Blair Vineyards is a small (think tiny, tastings in a garage) winery in SE PA. We recently went on a self-designed 5 winery tour and Blair was the standout. We spent an hour there talking to the owner, Rich, about his wines and the plans for the winery. Rich is very adamant about Pennsylvania being the next Oregon. And that means good Pinot Noir. He devotes over 30% of his vineyards to Pinot Noir. He focuses on it, strives to make it the best in the region. And he's done a fine job of it. Rich is very aware of his own limitations as a winemaker and for that reason he has hired a French winemaker to continue improving his grapes. They are expanding and moving. Their new winery will be opened in October. The 2005 Merlot is outstanding. Spicy and full, it's really a stunning wine, especially for PA. They've got Syrah aging now; it should be ready for release in October with the opening of their new location. We're looking forward to getting to know Rich's wines better as they continue to improve. Hopefully, Blair Vineyards will put a barrel program into place; I know we'll want to participate in it. Just to add: we had their 2004 Pinot Noir last night. It definitely benefits from decanting. Let it breathe, people! Give it an hour in the glass or a decanter before drinking. read more

Blair Vineyards 2010 Lehigh Valley Pinot Noir blew me away. Like most wine-jerk northern Californians, I was expecting something only average or worse. It was a steal at the price point and stands up to most pinots coming out of SoCal (while the high ABV gave it an interesting touch of a Zin-like quality) The location is breathtaking and they have ample space to take a bottle outside and linger over valley and hill-top views. The winemaker is a cool, knowledgable guy. And it was kid-friendly to our toddlers, too. The Cab Franc was also pretty good. If you have a chance, go. read more

A little bit of California in central PA, Blair Vineyard offers some of the best wines in Pennsylvania. I was not expecting to like Blair Vineyards as much as I did. Sure, they have a near perfect rating on yelp, but who reads/writes yelp reviews for wineries (except me, with over 60 winery reviews so far)? Driving on those winding Kutztown roads in a sea of corn, you happen upon a hillside of gorgeous grape vines. My girlfriend and I arrived on a Sunday, and were surprised to find it really crowded with live music on their roofed-in porch. An event oasis out in the middle of PA farmland. For $5, you get to taste six wines, and if you bring a friend without a contagious disease, the pours are generous enough to share and you can get away with trying more. I highly recommend this approach, as you'll want to try as many of these wines as possible. Wine nerds will also love tasting the same grapes from different vineyard locations, Starting with the whites, I loved the acidic and lemon/apple 2013 Riesling, perfect for drinking with food, the 2014 Savignon Blanc, with more lemon and some pineapple and a long mellow finish that lingers in your mouth, and the 2012 Chardonnay with a slightly burnt oak and creamy buttered popcorn taste. The reds get their own paragraph because they were so good and interesting. Of the three Pinot Noirs (all from different vineyard locations) my favorite with the 2012 which has rich earthy tannins and black cherry. My next favorite, and my overall favorite, was the 2012 Cabernet Franc with a smoky licorice taste that lingers on the palate. Although I didn't like it enough to buy, you should try that 2012 Syrah, which punches you in the tongue with its bold pepper flavor and a little dark fruits. The red blends are good but not exceptional, and none of them really stood out to me (which is strange because I love red blends). Blair Vineyards is a good start to the Berks County Wine Trail. You'll notice that they will emphasize their wines are "European Style" which means dry and a little earthy for the most part. There are still some sweet wines for those into that, but if you love wines on the drier side, you'll fall in live with Blair Vineyards. read more

Hidden gem!?! We popped in here on a whim...and a fresh clean palate. I am a total Napa Valley wine snob and I couldn't believe it but this place did it for me. Loved the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and makes sense the cooler night temps up in these mountains (hills) is a good growing climate for those grapes. We took a couple bottles home and I can't wait to uncork them to confirm if I was just crazy that day or not. I will try and remember to update y review when I do. Beautiful patio outside to open the bottle of wine you just bought and enjoy the scenery. I'm not a big fan of dry wines, which is what they are most famous for. Blair Vineyards is an experience to be had by all. I loved what Blair Vineyards provided at their home- a very cozy, warm environment with an incredibly helpful and fun staff. I cannot wait to visit their newly built winery because I believe the sky is the limit for Blair Vineyards! In regards to the wine they provide: they seemed to produce an almost endless list of wine, filled with unique flavors and aromas (and delicious of course!). This place was great. I'm mainly a dry red drinker and I was impressed with some of the dry whites and even some of the semi sweets. I think there was only one out of all the wines I didn't care for but every other one had a wow factor. The owner and family seem to run the place and each one was friendlier than the next and knowledgable. When I say knowledgable I mean it didn't sound like they were reading off a script. They knew about the grape climate condition of the year, almost too much. Just pour me some more great wine! This was my fiancée and myselfs favorite winery in the area. Granted its defiantly out of the way but it is so worth it. It is set up on a very long drive way which is perfect for picture taking. They have really great and educated staff. If you are lucky you will walk in when they are making and serving amazing baguette bread. Then the wines will just blow you away. This was stop 2 for our Lehigh valley vineyards stop. This vineyards had such great reviews that we had to stop. We called ahead of time and they are super kid friendly. The staff and winemaker could not be nicer. The winery has some nice views of the vineyard. The wine tasting currently was $5 and you could try six. I thought their lover leap, Pinot noir (especially the stone hedge) were very good. Some of their sweeter reds were great like their clink and drink and the metamorphosis. The wine here is excellent. In PA there is a lack of quality dry wine and an overabundance of cloyingly sweet wines. Blair Vineyards has a great selection of well made dry red and white wines. My favorites were the Sauvignon Blanc, the Pinot Noirs, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. The staff is also very friendly, knowledgeable and great to talk about wine with. The view is beautiful and they have a great outdoor patio area with lots of seating. My recommendation is to pack a lunch, do a tasting, buy a bottle and enjoy it on the patio while you eat! read more

Our favorites were the Riesling and Pinot Gris. Both wines were excellent, a fresh crisp taste that was not at all overwhelming. We ended up taking several bottles of each home. While visiting the winery we sat on the porch and enjoyed a bottle of the Riesling with cheese and crackers. You can bring a cooler with you, so you can enjoy your favorite wine with a snack. I hosted my parent's 30th wedding anniversary at Blair Vineyards in September and was so impressed with how accommodating they were. They allowed me to put a tent on their front lawn to host over 60 guests and really soak in the view of the vines. As far as PA wineries go, Blair is definitely on the top of the list. Their wines are far above other local PA competitors and their location and views are unbelievable. I was so pleased with how my event turned out and look forward to hosting more events there in the future. Blair is a great place to enjoy an afternoon by the vines. Loved this winery. The wines are done in a European style which means they are on the drier side. Not good for those who prefer sweets. Everything I tasted ranked 3.5 to 5 out of 5. 6 samples cost $5.00 but the sample fee was refunded with purchase of one bottle per person. Cute winery located out in the country. They just had a 5K vineyard run so it was quite packed when we arrived for a tasting. The woman that waited on us was sweet and knowledgable, but you could tell she was a bit worn out from the crowds already. The wines were okay. I tend to like my dry reds a bit more intense and richer, but overall they were decent. I really liked their Syrah and Three Sisters blend (will appeal to more of my friends for it's light smoothness and lack of oak). The Pinot Gris was clean and crisp, but I found the other whites to be slightly lacking in complexity. Even the woman pouring for us commented on a couple of the wines and their "one note" which I was surprised by. I loved the idea of having a kitchen in the winery to do food pairings, etc. but the place was a mess. There were dirty dishes, a highchair and baby stuff strewn about...it felt more like walking into someone's messy kitchen at home rather than a winery. The outdoor pavilion and views are stunning! We went on Friday for "Happy Hour & Tapas" starting at 5:30 which they appear to be doing every Friday throughout the summer. Live music, appetizers/light entrees available from a local caterer (which varies) and 10% off wine. The outdoor area is where everyone gathers and the music is playing. It's under roof if it rains.
