Went there today to check out what they had. Normally, I come here and have had good experiences in the past but today was just annoying. Found a few PS3 games and 1 PS1 game I wanted to take a look at (since it seems they removed ALL the games from the cases to prevent stealing? They weren't like that before.) and I waited around for over 25 minutes while browsing and not once did someone let me know they were ready to be seen. I had to ask the woman who was working there about seeing the discs and she told her husband (I think) and I didn't hear anything else back, so I left. I myself worked at record stores/game shops in my younger days and I have to say this place is ran far better than any place I have experienced. The good: Great selection of games and systems. The bad: No prices on games, they look them up on price charting when you inquire about the price, which means it could change daily. This was a really nice store for retro video games. I was on the hunt for some PS2 games and was in the area so decided to check this place out. I've missed going to look at video games for my collection. It was easy to get to and parking was fine. They had a large collection of PS2, PS3, PS4, and Xbox games. I was also pleased to see that they had some classic NES and SNES games. Nothing I wanted but still nice to see. They also had a small selection of PS1 games. Prices were comparable to prices online on the second hand market. I also saw that they had some game consoles for sale as well. I recommend checking out this shop if you're a video game collector. Within moments of putting the console through function tests, they were able to tell me what was wrong with it, how much it would be (very reasonable) and when it would be ready (3-4 days). 1.5 days later they told me it was ready for pickup. This place had a great selection! I'm always looking for Sega Cd, Saturn, genesis, and most places have almost nothing. But here, I walked away with two complete rare genesis games, one super rare loose game, a Seca cd game, and a common ps4 title, all at sub-ebay prices. But really what's nice is the vibe. People were playing smash, the shop manager was casual but easy to get hold of and talk to, and when I wanted to get a new case for a ps4 game he just swapped it for me no charge. Also saw great selections for gamecube, original xbox, Ps2, etc, with no need to wade through tons of sports games. There were even some turbografx titles - banged up, but they were there. Whoever wrote those old negative reviews must have had a grudge, because I just went to ever game shop within 20 miles and this was far and away the best. Don't miss it! read more

Given the reviews are very dated, here you go: A few weeks ago, we were directed to this place after venturing into a pawn shop further up on Fruitridge we happened to check out. Once inside of Game Trader, they had lots and lots of movies, games, consoles, and accessories. You know those proprietary cables you cant seem to find anywhere? Game Trader has them majority of the time. You know that one game you cant seem to find at any of the major big box stores? Well game trader has it majority of the time. I've gotten 4 games since finding this place and they are in great condition. The staff is friendly. The owners are pretty knowledgable. Mind you they wont know as much as you fanboy gals and guys, but they know quite a bit from all generations of consoles and games. This little hidden gems is worth the venture. Do yourself a favor and check it out. What they lack in flashiness that the big box stores have, they completely make up for in customer service and availability. Cheers! read more

Didn't really care for this place. The people working didn't seem very friendly and were more interested in looking at their phones than helping customers. Also most of their retro games (the reason I was there) weren't priced. Instead when I asked about them the guy said he would "look them up" if I had questions about prices on anything. Pleasently suprised... I stopped into this location after the one on Daly Avenue closed a few months ago. I always had good experiences, so I figured I would try this one. I am glad that I did! I am a retro gamer first, and a modern gamer second, so was I ever excited to see a ton of NES, SNES, N64 and PS1 games. I talked to one of the owners, and he seemed to be very knowledgable and happy with his job. Nice guy. The store itself was well organized and clean. Also, I didnt get that corporate Gamestop feel where they try to upsell you and push preorders on stuff you dont want. Just a nice, relaxed atmosphere. I will definitly return soon. I would recommend this place only if you want to purchase old games for your N64, SNES, etc. I think they have more selection of used old titles for every system and their customer service is actually decent. However, I recently bought two Ps2 games here and they were slow to load. I had misplaced my receipt but they were nice enough to help me look up my transaction. I exchanged them and received two discs that didn't even work. I would say that I wouldn't trust buying anything CD related here but my past purchasing history with them was pretty satisfactory with other cartridge type games. A word of warning...the restocking fee here is 40 percent for used games o.o read more

My fiancée is a Pokémon fan, so I decided to see if I could find some of the old Gameboy/Advance/DS games around town, and maybe a DS or two. I went here first, as it was closest to me, and was surprised to find a number of the games on my "list" and a couple DS systems in good shape (one even being a special-edition Pokémon version). I made a note of the prices and checked out six other places between Elk Grove and Roseville. Only one other place had anything I was looking for, and I ended up coming back here for their better selection and prices. They'll also replace the in-cartridge game battery for free if it ends up being depleted. $7 if you bring in an outside cartridge for a new battery. Had to take off a star because of weird billing issues (limit on amount that can be put on a credit card, cash refunds instead of crediting the original card, overall uncertainty on how to process a sale), and because two of the games I bought were defective. They provided a refund, but it required another trip because these weren't checked. read more
