Their new stuff isn't bad, but the prices are INSANELY high. The common price for a newly sealed vinyl is about 30 dollars. What! Piss the bed! On another note I'm going to share a very sad story. Today I had some records I was going to bring in to sell, but I knew I was coming a kinda close to closing time so I called beforehand and asked if they'd have time to go through them tonight and they said yes. I told them I had a 20 minute drive and I'd be there soon and they said that would be okay. Sublime. So I drove there with all my stuff in my car and brought it inside and they're all like "we can't take these today, bring them in next week." Hello? I just drove 20 minutes to get here because you told me it was fine! I asked if I could leave the stuff there and they said there was "nothing they could do." Shameful. Graywhale's customer service has never been great but I expected they'd try to do something to make it right. These people do not care about their customers! Go to Randy's Records instead. They have a better selection and better prices!

Everything is so urgent, or so important, or so technological, or so modern. So if you've fallen out of touch with your whimsical side, perhaps it's time to stop in here. A dyed in the wool bookstore it is not. There are much more than books in this nook. Fanciful things, clothing items, toys, games, and things that will have your kids eyeballs lighting up and you watching their hands very closely. But there are storybooks that you can peruse. In a world of in-the-car DVD players and elementary school kids with cell phones it's nice to know someone is still selling the printed word. Totally exempt from technology it is not, but maybe a hair simpler than a big-box kids store. Selection isn't fantastic, but again, it's more about the experience that rifling through the shelves going after a specific title. Cruise in a few minutes and see what tickles your fancy. Buy a book and read it to your kids--or have them read it to you. Remember when that was enough?

The stores brands include Chuggington, BabyLit, Usborne, Melissa and Doug, TY, Little Golden Books, and more top kids' brands. I adore this store and feel like it's a must have for a different demographic at Gardner Village.

I'm guessing it's because of the "digital" age, and people just don't read anymore. They also had a really large section of DVD's and CD's. What are those you say? It's pretty well non existent now. One thing they have, that the toy stores don't, are a large selection of board games, and puzzles, that you don't see on the toy shelves at other stores that sell toys/puzzles. There is a small coffee shop inside where you can grab a cup of coffee, and sit back and read your book. Snacks and sandwiches are available as well. Customer service is lacking at this location, also they need more cashiers.

Each time we've been here it seems they're either understaffed or not enough stockers are cashier trained because it'll be just one cashier until an antsy line queues and then someone notices and comes up to help ring down the line. Good selection of books and games. The front by the cashier also has a fun collection of gift items that change seasonally. There's a cafe in the back but it's usually pretty full so we haven't gone there yet. The store is well organized but maintenance needs to come in to clean the escalator and repaint since it is pretty dirty in some spots which is normal over time but looks like whoever is in charge of regional upkeep maybe hasn't noticed on their visits that this store needs so deep cleaning in some high foot traffic areas. Overall a good albeit pricey place to find your next good read as well as a great place to find gifts for everyone. Cashiers are friendly. Keep up the good work!

I came in looking for a book but after sometime I couldn't find it, and when I asked for help they didn't want to really help but instead kept ignoring me, seemed bothered I even asked, later came to find out that was the manager-disgraceful behavior. Gave them the benefit of the doubt and asked a different employee but she wasn't very helpful, told me to go look myself despite already telling her I have and I asked her if she would get in trouble if she walked over and helped me (btw the store wasn't very busy) she said she wouldn't get in trouble..but she proceeded to basically say she doesn't want to but I guess fine, and told me she was going to help another customer first despite me being there first but I said okay, and waited for her to come to the section I told her I would be in (where the book I was looking for should be) and when she wasn't there within a reasonable time I looked over and saw she was continuing to "help" every other customer around and stand there, when I talked to her again, she looked like she was caught and it was more of the same apathetic and lazy response, while two other employees (two managers-one was the first one I talked to) were just standing talking and laughing away near by doing nothing. Tried to talk to them about what happened and they didn't seem to genuinely care AT ALL. It made me feel unprioritized and like I didn't matter. Way to make a person walk straight out of the store. Walked out feeling worse than when I came in. Amazon and other sellers are cheaper but people come to Barnes for the service/experience not just books. Overall, consistently disgraceful employees and an unpleasant experience at this location.

No idea, but this one is definitely a lot less invested in pop culture than the one in Orem. So, I guess if you're looking for music or movies, this would be the one to hit and if you're looking for pop kitsch like figures or Japanese food items or blankets or related stuff, Orem is your bag. Both of them are flooded with Funko POPs, though, so if you're into deformed hunks of plastic, either one will work just fine.

Every once and awhile, I'll be rolling down 2100 South in Sugarhouse and hit 700 E and think "Hmm,…read morethe FYE is still there!" I used to hit up the FYE back in the DVD days, but haven't gone in one since Obama's first term. So imagine my surprise when I'm rolling through the Provo Mall to see an FYE. Stunned. When I went in, it was much different than I remember. The DVDs and CDs were mostly relegated to the bargain bins. FYE's reason for survival quickly became clear: The most voluminous collection of Pop! Funko in the entire mall; a gigantic Rick & Morty display in the front; enough pop culture t-shirts to clothe an army; DC and Marvel comic clothes and collectables, vinyl records and cool turntables; and Pop Sockets (accessories for the back of cell phones). They've really found a way to stay competitive with the other pop culture stores by having "exclusives", such as the Batman/Aquaman 2-pack, and Pennywise (with teeth) from "It", and Jimmy Hendrix burning his guitar at the Monterrey Pop Festival. I put the word "exclusives" in quotes as you can get them on Amazon; however, even those have the FYE label on them. The "For Your Entertainment" of FYE has changed a bit, away from the movies themselves and rapidly toward the clothes we wear and the collectibles we display long after we see the film. I get the distinct feeling that the new, evolved FYE is here to stay.

FYE's website is hopeless, but the stores have made the transition from more traditional…read moregames/movies/music into more or less just vinyl, smatterings of DVDs, but mostly a pop culture themed store. There is a ton of Japanese imported food and drinks here, much of it exclusive to FYE, lots of action figures and related stuff, quite a few different t-shirts, bowls, cups, just a huge embrace of various elements of pop culture, both American, mostly horror, and Japanese (ranges a lot). If they're going to do it, selection is going to be important and they do very well on this side. I can't say it's a wholly welcome change, for me, anyway, but they're doing a pretty solid job leaning into it...for the few stores that are left, anyway.

Upstairs are two different areas-including a fabric store which has a ton of fun fabrics for you to choose from. These are not the same fabrics you will find at Jo-Ann's or anywhere else that sells fabric. The other business upstairs is a framing shop, that has mostly religious pictures-both original and prints for sale. They will also frame anything else that you bring in and did not purchase here. The two women upstairs were very friendly and welcoming, and made me feel like an old friend. If you are looking for a gift, there are plenty of options, and even non-denominational gifts for people of all ages. Plus, the store is such a peaceful place to just browse.

What the what?? How did I miss a full on fabric store inside of Deseret Book? A FABRIC STORE?…read more So, I was in the neighborhood and popped in. Maybe it was just to smell the rolls. But I looked up to the second floor and could have sworn I saw bolts of fabric lining the walls. But this is Deseret Book, right? Up the stairs I go, and sure enough that place is packed with fabric. Maybe technically the thing is a Mormon Handicraft, but there it is under the same roof so I'm calling it part of Deseret Book for now. Here's the low down on the fabric: it's really cute. Like, super darling, adorbs, and totally quiltworthy. Polka dots like crazy, paisley, stripes, and lots of flowery darling things.
