Has potential, but poor decisions hold it back…read more I have been to this store to a few times because I was already in the mall. When you walk in for the first time you are wowed by the amount of games and variety of items they have. Any gamer or nerd would love looking at their inventory. The problem is NOTHING IS PRICED. My biggest pet peeve is when stores do not price items. Do you expect me to come to the front and ask you the price on a bunch of games? It makes zero sense. You lost a customer because of it. There were probably 20 games I was interested in getting prices for but I am not waiting that long for an employee to look them up and give me market or above market price (according to other reviews). I am sure they have lost many customers because they want to save a few bucks on market fluctuations. Stupid business decisions will cripple stores like this. I think the funniest part is the only thing in the store that's price is their trading cards. I don't care if stores price their Pokemon above MSRP. It's the norm now, it doesn't bother me, but when you can't price a $10 game but you are over TCG/Ebay on trading cards it makes you laugh. The employees/owners seem so uninterested in talking to people. There was a guy in front of us trying to get some info and they acted like it was a bother. This store has amazing potential. A clean store layout with great inventory is a recipe for success but when you pair it with dumb decisions and bad customer service you will lose many returning customers that could have spent thousands in your store. I'll continue to stop by when I'm in the mall hoping things change.

It's not every day you stumble across a video game store with the old school cool stuff like ATARI,…read moreSEGA, etc. The front of the store was current console games, and the further back you went, the further back in history you went... to the 1990's, the 1980's... I grew up in that era so I was stoked to see so many old familiar titles on display. I will say the place felt almost more like a museum or a hobbyist's den than a store, lol. Not a lot of obvious price tags on much of the older stuff; clearly if you were interested in purchasing, you'd need to get the help of an employee. Most of it was either behind glass or on an inaccessible shelf as well. Which makes a certain sense, because these are collector's pieces at this point that require careful handling. You don't want any kid wandering in and messing with a game cartridge worth $100+. I didn't buy anything while there, but it was really fun to marvel and take it all in like a sightseer, or time traveler haha. It was a pretty large store (at least double the footprint than GameStop) and there were plenty of fun decorations on the walls or hanging from the ceiling. Lots of arcade cabinets and such. Anyway, they must be doing okay because this is their newest secondary location. I'll have to stop by the original in Shakopee sometime.

(TLDR: Very rude employees, and extremely shady pricing on used cards/trade-in value.)…read more I want to give this place a higher rating because they have a lot of cool and fun products to browse.. But the staff and practices are just terrible. I've been here twice. Both times I was in the shop, I spent a good long while searching through their products and sifting through their bulk trading card bins, and the whole time I was in there I overheard the manager(?) being extremely short and rude with multiple customers. Acting like a smug know-it-all, being annoyed that people were trying to sell things to their store, and even swearing at customers who were being normal/polite with him. Just absolutely bizarre behavior. My other massive problem with this place is the pricing on some of their items, and how/what they offer for store credit trade-ins. I've traded in some vintage cards here before, (both times I was in the shop) and even though I had different employees doing the trade-ins each time, they never failed to lowball me like CRAZY. They tried to tell me they could only take one of my cards as "damaged" condition because it had a couple black specs on the front of the card, and some light white wearing around the backside edges. I lightly scraped my fingernail across the black specs and they fell off.. The card was at WORST "moderately played" condition. I understand that these childhood cards from 25 years ago aren't in pristine condition, but they never failed to pretend like they were in the worst possible condition so they could offer me way less. (Mind you, I was wanting store credit, not cash, which benefits them even more..) The pricing on their used singles cards is also insane. I found a random obscure cheap old card I've been searching for, (non first edition version) but it was being sold for $10.. TCG Player and eBay both show that even the first edition version in near mint condition goes for $3.50. I saw another card I was interested in that was being sold for $100. TCG Player and eBay show that in near mint condition it goes for $46. I wasn't going to complain about the $10 card, but I decided to POLITELY ask why the $46 card was being sold for $100, and the rude manager guy overheard me asking and walked over to interject. He said those cards are the owner of the store's cards, he chooses the prices, that's just what he wants to get for them, they cannot change the price. I politely said "Ah, okay. I'll pass on that one then." then finished my transaction and left. I don't understand how stores with extremely rude staff who also literally try to scam people out of their money can stay in business. Just disgusted with my experiences at this place. Even greedy scalpers I've met at trading card conventions aren't charging $100 for a $46 card.

To whom it may concern…read more.. My partner and I moved into the neighborhood around April of last year. This was our first time living in the big city and luckily was able to find an apartment pretty quickly and that so happened to be right across the street from your store Level Up Games. As avid gamers and MTG players this was a great resource to have and a safe space to meet new people, make friends, and establish ourselves in the community. After my partner had been going on Wednesdays to MTG night for a while he learned that you all provided free DND sessions to anyone that wanted to break into table top games. This was something out of my comfort zone and I had been going through a emotional transition from this being my first big move away from home and everyone I used to know to moving here and kind of having to start over essentially. It was hard for me. My partner found this outlet for us to explore together and it started out great we were going regularly every week, we were learning something new, and having fun doing it. Eventually we were going enough that we had made a couple of really good friends there. Unfortunately there ended up being a situation where my partner had to endure a few instances of racism directed towards him by one of the DMs of the Mead Halls Mightiest at Level Up Games. It started off with small things like, speaking up with corrections only when my partner had any input, making back handed insults about his intelligence, also putting handicaps on character creation where other people did not. This lead into more intense behavior such as avoiding DMing sessions in which he would be at the table, isolating him and his friend group to were they had to play sessions only with themselves, and defaming his personal character to the other DMs to cause a rift of distrust in order to get rid of him. This had been going on for a while and after one session were there where some content where we were trying to get some elementals vacation time to visit their families because this Spa owner had them sign a contract were they had to work for her forever. Anyways, this lead to a huge argument where my partner called them out and asked what their problem was. They went on to explain that it was because he makes other people playing the game uncomfortable. They had went on the explain that in one instance he had copied their charter creations in order to make the same kind of character. He also was accused of in acting what seemed like sexual assault on an NPC. Their words Ver Batam. This of course is in accusation of the only African American that comes to these things and this was the only DM that ever had a problem with my partner. This lead with the head of the Mead Hall backing all their lies and instead of promoting a safe space of equally and inclusion they kicked us out and tried banning us from the store in which they had no power. In conclusion we thought leaving Tennessee would mean less racism and more acceptance, but turns out racism is everywhere and you have to keep your eyes out and not turn a blind eye. It's a shame you don't have leaders of the Mead Hall that can be bold enough to hold down the principals of your establishment. Dungeons and Dragons is a game that accepts everyone no matter where you come from, what you look like, what race or sexuality you are. It's a shame that it wasn't reflected at your establishment due to a small few. Thank you.

I can't tell you how many other comic shops I've stopped at that don't have what I need but since Level Up is smaller they always have what I want in stock (you think it would be the opposite!) Games have become more costly as the years go on but that's normal for everything we purchase. I sadly don't trade in much anymore since they were oversaturated with PS4's when I was selling mine but my past experiences have been great and they were always my go to for new games I was on the hunt for - I love supporting them! Over the years they have recommended books that I've fallen in love with and always have fun board games to choose from if I'm looking for fun gifts. A staple place in the Cities for me for sure, staff are always so kind and helpful.

Approximately half the store is dedicated to various reading materials like comics, manga, and fiction. The other half is board games, RPGs, and supplies for said games (like mini figs and paints, dice, etc.). Throughout the store you'll also find toys, posters, collectibles, comic/trading card storage, and more. There's a lot to look at, so if you've never been, I recommend giving yourself at least an hour to browse around. This game shop also doubles as a community gathering and event space. There's lots of room and tables/chairs in the back to accommodate gamers who want to come in and play or hang and be social. I'm sure they have many specific goings-on each week (for example, I saw a sign advertising mini fig painting every Monday evening!); you can check out their event calendar on their website. There was also a gender ambivalent restroom and water fountain/water bottle refill station nearby. Some beverages were available for sale near the front. It is also quite obviously a safe space, as I saw in addition to the hanging pride flag an entire section dedicated to queer and trans materials, and an end cap as well for POC and disabled folk. I can't say how much it means to me as a trans person to see this kind of representation clearly on display during a challenging political time. I hadn't gone with the intention of buying anything (isn't that typical? lol) but to be honest, when I saw the queer support they were displaying, I wanted to support them back. It wasn't hard to find a couple things I wanted in order to give them my financial business. If you too prioritize supporting local queer businesses, consider buying from here! I normally wouldn't have been up this far north from where I live, but I was headed to a Yelp Elite event a little early and decided to see what else was in the area. So glad I stopped in here! I'll be back!
