Terrible experience with GandF - I'll start by saying Will was great, Michelle was not. Their work reflects the price point, I suppose you get what you pay for.
- My start date was delayed twice and they never showed up on the first day. I was told they were "leaving soon" at 12pm and did not hear back until 3pm that they weren't going to make it, they were just leaving another project. (supposed to arrive at 10:00am to start demo)
- Two weeks into the project (on a Friday) I was told they wouldn't be here until the following Wednesday as they had another project. One would think you'd give a customer more than a day notice before pausing their work for another customer (considering my start date was delayed twice for another project that ran long and I was going on two weeks with no kitchen access). Michelle was extremely defensive when I questioned why my project was being put on hold, and went on a rant of all the "extras" I requested to be done at the end of the project if they had time (none of which had been started so it was somewhat irrelevant). Also, they were more than happy to help with the "extras", so I was caught by surprise with her rude and off-putting text explaining "all the things they've done for me". One thing to note, the extra work was more business I was paying for.
- From there everything quickly went downhill - they mis-measured in the kitchen and added the extra cabinet to my bill. Had I not questioned why I was responsible it would have been left for me to pay. I was told "we didn't know we couldn't put the fridge against the wall" they were well aware of the fridge I purchased, clearly you can't put a french door fridge flush against the wall as the door won't open all the way.
- They removed the trap from my bathroom sink and forgot to put it back on, a few days later I noticed soggy toilet paper in the drawer and immediately sent them pictures of the water leakage and they admitted they forgot to put the trap back and that they would fix the drawer (the bottom of the drawer was warped). The following week they claimed it made no sense the wood above wasn't damaged but the drawer was (the drawer bottom was particleboard, not wood like above material) and they weren't going to fix it.
We're now going on week 5 (still no kitchen access when I was told they would take 1 week) for 2 sliding door + window replacements, new fireplace tile, a shiplap accent wall (which they installed the wrong way) and a very small kitchen remodel. . I was handed a stack of home depot receipts and demanded to review with them for payment ten minutes before my work day started with no notice. Several items were added to my invoice that were included with installation (as stated on the invoice), as well as other random things like a tile cutter, face masks, 5 lbs of nails, sandpaper, extension cords, etc. My invoice was also updated with over $200 of " window and material pick up charges" that they offered to do, but added on last minute because I expected decent service for my $20,000 job. I had paid for the cabinetry and windows in advance, then was questioned why I didn't offer to pay more by week 5. Since no payment terms were agreed upon, I'm pretty sure it's the business owners responsibility to request payment and provide you with receipts and updated invoices along the way.
Long long story short (I could go on), I was told they wouldn't come the last day to finish because working 9-5 and waiting until I was off work to review the project was "too long of a day" and I was called "ungrateful" for my request...needless to say they were fired from the job.
Michelle was extremely disrespectful, my husband and neighbors witnessed her yelling rants more than once. I've now brought in a LICENSED professional who has to fix their mistakes - incorrect faucet installation, uneven paint job on the accent wall (which was blamed by the "dark paint" color I chose), sloppy hallway cabinet installation, poor backsplash install around outlets that requires them removing tile and pulling outlets forward so they're flush. Also, they rarely work a 6-7 hour day, which is apparently why it took 5+ weeks and the job is still not done.
Do yourself a favor and hire a licensed professional who is capable of doing quality work (and providing quality customer service). Lesson learned! Yo read more
