We all went to the murder mystery dinner Friday night. What a BLAST!!! We learned some history of Newport (a.k.a "sin city") and "solved a murder" by analyzing clues and hearing from the "suspects". It was a lot of fun and lots of laughs. Also... dinner was delicious... chicken marsala, baked salmon, a roast beef carving station, garlic mashed potatos, mixed vegies, rolls, salad, and cheese cake. An excellent night out. I came here for a new years eve event that this venue was also apart of .. the dueling pianos was so fun and so cool to watch ! I liked how the performers asked the crowd regularly what type of music they wanted to hear instead of playing just whatever - it really was a vibe! I really enjoyed my time and had a great experience! Received a Groupon as a gift and decided to use it on our 1 year anniversary. This place only opens on the weekends and reservations are required. There are two piano performers so if you have requests, prepare to bring in some cash for tips. My boyfriend and I dined in on a Saturday around 8:00 pm. It was somewhat busy, but we got great seats. If you are wanting a quiet romantic dinner, this is not the place. It can get loud, but we were expecting it. We started out with drinks and an appetizer. They have a fair selection of craft beers, wines and specialty cocktail list. Our appetizer was the Bugsy which is potato skins topped with cheese, bacon and Mac & Cheese. Very delish! We got the appetizer really quick! For dinner, I got the bourbon salmon. Comes with mashed potatoes and vegetable of the day (green beans w/ham). You also get a side salad to start off with (which was fresh and a good amount). My boyfriend got the champagne chicken (breaded chicken topped with champagne sauce which is thick and very tasty) sides were the same as mine. We got our meals at a reasonable time and I enjoyed every bite. The bourbon salmon was cooked right and flaky and the sauce was sweet and delicious. We got a brownie as our dessert! Yum! As the night went on, we enjoyed the selections of music! They even played two of our requests which was old school hair band (Motley Crue) and Del Shannon. The crowds were cheering on and was really into it. Such great energy. The servers were really generous and friendly but short staffed but it was okay with us because we weren't in any hurry and enjoying the entertainment. So this place can totally give you the wrong vibe, at all times throughout the night. It's almost like it's not sure what it wants to be... which makes it great!! When we first got there a little after 7:30 on a saturday night, and as soon as we walked in we wondered if we were at the right place, and if being in jeans, no matter the heals or dress shirts, if we were grossly underdressed. One of the hosts told the other a table number and we told him we were just looking for the bar. Around to the right he directed us, and as we turned the corner, the thoughts we had at the door grew stronger. but we found some seats at the bar, and the bartender immediately put our mind at ease. The show doesn't normally start until 8:30 but they're trying to get started sooner especially if there's a lot of people here. So we ordered some drinks, and then discovered they have Buckets, or as the bartender put it, "buckets of booze" that were themed to the place as well. We ordered a Heading for the Border, that was like a giant margarita, and under $17 dollars, and totally worth it. The drinks are reasonable, and it seems the crowd really picks up after 9-9:30, and you realize there's people from all walks of life here. Old, young, classy, normal, it doesn't matter. The pianos are positioned right down the middle of the place with the tables/restaurant on one side and the bar, with some stage side seating on the other. There's some really nice private rooms in the back for parties, gatherings, and what not. There is also a seperate smoking room to the left when you first walk in that has doors on it and windows so you can see the stage if you need to take a smoke break without going outside, or invading anyone elses breathing area. I definately want to give this place a try for a late dinner and stay for the show sometime. They play a bunch of different music, and if you really want them to play a song, tip them nicely and they'll get to it sooner. LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Was really surprised to have to add it on Yelp. Gangster's is located where the old Syndicate restaurant used to be. The theme of course is old Newport, Al Capone style. They're only open Thursday- Saturday, but that works for them. When you walk in, it feels like you stepped back in time, but in a very good way. The dueling pianos are fun, and everyone joins along. Thursday nights they even allow guests to come up and take the mic. There's a nice sized dance floor and even a pole to swing on. The food is pretty good, nothing fancy, but they have half priced apps on Thursdays. Also, great drink specials! FUN cocktail menu!! Highly recommend Pushing Up Daisies, Public Enemy #1, and Swimming With the Fishes (which actually has Swedish fish floating in your drink!!). The best part of Gangsters by far, is the amazing bar staff. Hogan and Kristi make it happen!! They both are performers which makes it extra fun, and they treat you like family immediately. I had a Living Social dinner deal, and I was down to the last week to use it. My mother- and sister-in-law were coming down for the weekend, so I figured that would be the perfect opportunity. My sister is underage, so we called to see if we would still be able to eat there, and we were told that minors are allowed until 9 PM on Fridays but not at all on Saturdays. That worked for us, so we headed over there around 8 PM. The food was nothing special, but everything was ok, except the Fried Ravioli, which was very bland. We ordered this drink that came in a fish bowl meant for sharing. It was $17 and much smaller than anticipated. I basically ended up drinking the entire thing myself with no noticeable effects. Went here Friday night (3-7-14) for the first time. I was meeting with a group of people. We were the first of our group to arrive. The host showed us to the reserved table and immediately sent over Jason, the waiter. We placed our drink order and settled in. Others soon joined us and we started placing food orders. Apparently the menu used to be quite expensive but has been pared down. I had a mushroom swiss burger and my friend had an appetizer - Gangster Balls (meatballs in a marinara sauce served with small pieces of crispy garlic bread). He thought the meatballs were really good! I liked the burger, but it was too well done for me. I don't hold that against them because I did not specify how I wanted it cooked and many places will only cook a burger well done (around here any way). The food was good. The drinks were good. The pianos were GREAT! The 3 guys there played Johnny Cash tunes, Rolling Stones (Sympathy for the Devil no less), T-Pain! Great repertoire and lots of fun. VERY UNACCOMMODATING! I had called and made reservations to have my bachelorette party at gangster's piano bar. I had made a reservation for 12 people at 9:00pm, but told them that the time may have to be pushed back because of the previous activities. They told me I would be able to push the time back without any problem. When I called the next day to change the time to 10:00 pm, Megan (who was EXTREMELY rude) refused to do so even though I was already told by someone else that I could. I completely changed my arrangements with the attendees of the party in addition to the drivers, but now have to change plans again. They were completely unwilling to work with me, when they initially said it wouldn't be a problem and Megan was COMPLETELY RUDE. I've been a couple times now. I really want to like it more than I do, unfortunately. But, everyone else seems to be having a great time, so don't let this dissuade you from going. It's a raucous atmosphere. Loud, boisterous, high energy. The singing is decent, and the song selection depends on the mood of the performers and the crowd that night. There is often a lot of crowd participation which makes this ideal for a large group that is in the mood to drink and party. To take full advantage of the experience, you should get involved in the song selection and participation aspects. There are a couple "private" room areas, but that just gives you all the noise with none of the experience. The food is so so. The drinks and prices are OK. One time I went the singing was a bit off, the song selection wasn't the best, and there were a few awkward moments. However, if you are drinking enough, and have all your friends with you, this isn't really an issue. However, it doesn't make this fact any less interesting or amazing to learn about. My friends and I like to pride ourselves on miandering outside of the monotenous bar scene to frequently experience the obscure, the different, the random. We have found that we have the most fun when we do. So, when Stacie D. decided on The Gangster Tour for the main entertainment for her husband's suprise birthday party, I was intrigued and hooked. This was going to be the cherry on this birthday sundae. The Gangster Tour, hosted out of the Gangsters Dueling Piano Bar, is an extremely interesting, fascinating and educational experience. The two young lads who guide you through this era, share the story line, walk you through the history and execute the overall tour so very well. I learned so much! They start in the Gold Room inside Gangster's Dueling Piano Bar with a 30 minute presentation of the rich history, the key people and the influences of the Newport gambling era. I didn't know any of this stuff. No one had ever told me. And, it was so entertaining. They were so knowledgeable and funny too. When the presentation is over, these dressed to impress tour guides take you on an hour long tour around the area pointing out the main areas of gangster action and history. This really brings the presentation full circle. You're easily able to piece the gangsters to the buildings and the stories to the gangsters. It's really nice too, that not only do you learn about the past and the history in the area, but the present and you hear storied about things the current owners of these buildings have found or stumbled upon in their time as owner. It's pretty cool! I give this tour an 8.5 out of 10. Most definitely worth the $15 and I'm certainly going to partake in some of the other options on their tour menu. read more

My husband and I purchased a Groupon for here that included an appetizer, two entrees, and a dessert. Overall, the food was okay. We enjoyed the potato skins appetizer and our entrees. However, the dessert was not good and was very small. In addition, the service was terrible especially for not being very busy. Our waitress rarely checked on us, didn't come to take our food order until 30-45 minutes after sitting there, and it took at least 30 minutes to get our check after asking for it. Also, I found it very odd that they automatically included a 20% tip to our bill. It was 20% of the original bill before the Groupon, which is fine but it was also 20% for the additional drinks we ordered. I assume that's why the service was awful. I would suggest this place if you're going for drinks only and want to listen to the musicians, who were very talented and entertaining. read more

In fact, we were there a few hours and the place never filled up. I don't know if this is the norm or not but there certainly wasn't a need for reservations on the night we were there. We ordered the fried cheese curds as an app. No flavor at all. While the portions were great I don't think either one of us were blown away with the taste of our food. Gangster's is a fun place to go on a weekend evening. My boyfriend, his parents, and I went there on Friday night at about 9:30pm and had a great time. At that time, it wasn't very crowded but there were a decent number of people there (we were seated at a table, not at the bar). The two guys on the pianos were hilarious, and they also have singing bartenders (so fun)! It would be a great place to have a birthday celebration (adult, of course) or a more low-key bachelor/bachelorette party (I'm actually considering that for myself now). The food is good and reasonably-priced, and the drinks are great (and they don't skimp on the amount of alcohol in them, like some places do). read more

She took so long to return at one point (despite us trying to get her attention) that a member of our party was no longer able to order off the general menu. Majority of staff and manager were rude. Piano players were entertaining and played well but ignored our first request despite it being early in the night, no other requests pending and tip was included (yet they ended up playing the song later in the evening). Went there tonight. Waited at the front for at least 5 minutes before the hostess appeared. No greeting. Just "do you have a reservation". I said no, but I have a groupon and it doesn't say anything about reservations being required and my groupon expires today. Asked her if there was any way she could make an exception. All I got was "nope". So, we left after driving about 30 miles to get there. I was almost glad when we left because the place had an odd odor. It also looks like a strip club built in the 80s. Went here after receiving a groupon. I started off with a alcoholic beverage that arrived with a small bug floating in it. Apologies were made and my drink was replaced. Next was a salad that looked pre made earlier in the day with a sealed plastic cup of dressing. My salad had a hair in it, I kid you not, and I returned it. By this time it was 7pm, website says piano starts and I based my reservation time on that information, but the waiter informs me it is not until 8:30pm. So I did not get to hear any piano. Next was my appetizer that was a stuffed potato. It was not too bad. My main dish was seriously over black peppered Chicken Parmesan and it tasted like canned spaghetti and I was served a side of burnt garlic toast. The waiter mentioned that the manager was busy but should be out soon. My dessert was a dry brownie cut into fourth and positioned on the plate like a square with whipped cream in the middle. It looked like a dessert my kids would make. The waiter returned at the end of the meal and gave a $40 gift certificate, never saw a manager, he apologized and explained the holidays had the place in confusion. But I suspect by the additional poor reviews on here that this bad service is not rare. That customer clientele is low because of this kind of service being a regular thing, hence the groupon offer to get business. This place is fun looking, and felt like a neat 50's style club.
