It's a store that uses the name to sell lower quality goods at what appears to be bargain prices. It's not as it seems. Their everyday 40-60% off retail represents true retail that's often at inflated prices even with the discount. Here's a great example: Their stretch 5 pocket jeans. The GAP sells nearly identical products for about $70 and discounts from there. J Crew Factory sells them for $159 less 60%. You do the math. Neither is even remotely close to actual J Crew quality either in construction or fabrication. It's inferior quality marked way above retail and discounted to what is still an inflated price. Can bargains be found? Probably, but you'll have to wait until the end of the season when markdowns are taken prior to being discounted. The whole concept is totally misleading and does nothing more than dilute their brand and fool the public.
