Shop here fairly frequently since it's one of the clothing stores for the whole family and one of the only ones that has kids clothes on this side of town. I like to order for in-store pick up online to make shopping with kids a little bit faster. Located on the main downtown drag of Santa Cruz. I'm a Gap fan, kind of embarrassed to admit it, but I'm now at that age, where I enjoy simple clean looking clothes. The only time I'll purchase something is from clearance, or if there is a killer sale going on. This location has difference items compared to the Peninsula. There are times I find something that's not even on the website anymore and cheap! A good chunk of the time, I walk out empty handed, it's fun to look around. Rude Karen's working here. Ignored us while waiting to try on a sweater. When we asked if we could use the fitting room she was irritated that we did so. Clothes are way overpriced, baby clothes are same price as adults. If you're a minority I wouldn't waste my time cause they make you feel unwelcomed. read more

This Gap is abysmally small and the sales associates blink at you at best. It is usually always empty, so it feels super awkward when you walk in and can barely find someone to bat an eyelash at you. You're better off going over the hill to Valley Fair. The store is huge (kids', men's, body, and women's) and the sales associate will actually pay attention to you. Or better yet, shop online with the multitude of coupon codes and free shipping over $50. read more

The folks who work here seem miserable. No one was smiling- everyone seemed down- maybe something terrible happened that made the energy in the place unhappy? Also, my son got yelled at by a female employee. I'm fine with employees telling my kid what to do, but do it with respect/patience/kindness. If you hate kids, maybe don't work here? Hey Pacific Ave. GAP, You know what isn't okay? Advertising your "1969 Black Denim" by hanging your jeans on NOOSES. "Not okay" does not even begin to describe how disgusting this is. I feel nauseated! I was walking to my car at night when I saw the GAP displaying their jeans by hanging them on nooses in the window. I have now spoken to three different people in the store, all of whom refuse to take down the offensive display. Obviously, I will be taking this to corporate. Advantage: The institution of the Gap is (generally) negatively viewed in Santa Cruz, so I think this store is often bypassed by downtown shoppers. Why is this an advantage? You can always find crazy deals and they often have hard to find items in stock. Disadvantages: Parking, Disorganized as mentioned above.... and You may be verbally assaulted once you leave the store, due to sweat shop allegations, etc. One funny story is a group of girls picketing nude chanting, " I rather go bare than wear Gap anywhere." While marching to the beat of the chant. Lot's of spectators. Can you get a visual? However, the kicker is (for me) the fact that I just called for store hours and there is not even a recording letting you know when you can get in there and spend some $. Also checked the corporate site and the hours are not listed. read more

I feel like I'll be echoing the other reviewers, customer service (if you care about that-which I don't) weren't that friendly at all but I'm there to buy not socialize. The selection isn't that great like other gaps I've been to that are mainly in malls not stand alones like this one. I did find some good sales though. read more

I really only come here for a few things, mostly plain tees. They never seem to have my size (large) and the dressing rooms are usually not well kept. My biggest complaint is their customer service. I know you're not supposed to feel sorry for the Gap, but I can't help it. I realize that they're like the McDonald's of clothing. But If the Gap on Pacific Avenue is a microcosm for the state of the economy, I'm convinced we're doomed. I was there today doing some exchanges. Like most retailers, they have insane sales going on and they do sell some decent clothing which is a commodity most people need. The thing is: No one was shopping except me and like I said, I was just doing exchanges, offering no help whatsoever to their bottom line. There were about 4 employees who outnumbered the shoppers the entire hour I was there! **Maybe** everyone else was out supporting the local indie businesses and not being corporate whores, but I doubt it because parking downtown for once in my life was a piece of cake. Small Gap, but big enough for Santa Cruz I guess. Came in here really quickly since I had 40%. Just grabbed a bunch of items, paid for it and left. Honestly probably the most awkward transaction I had with an associate (he loooked like the manager). He was not friendly at all. Since I was buying so much stuff it felt like forever for everything to be folded and put into a bag. He didn't even attempt to start a conversation like most people do. Thank goodness my friend called me in the midst of all this so I didn't have to deal with the awkward silence. The good thing about this location is that since no one really shops here there are tons of sale items in my size! They do have limited quantities and styles at this location though. read more

I went into Gap yesterday for my first time. The young girl who helped me was excellent!! She found me the perfect pants!! She provided great service and I really appreciate her help. I informed the gentleman at the register of her customer service an made a point she should get acknowledgement! Stores need more people like her. Their athletic section was great. Great deals too. I use to work at this Gap and I know there's some sort of moral yelp code against writing yelp reviews for places you've worked at but I am going to ignore it. Gap is a corporate monster and I was one of their many corporate slaves who folded clothes like robots for less than $8 an hour. I was just in the gap on Pacific Avenue and my parking meter was expiring and I did not have any more change (the meter was change only) I had a large selection of clothes I wanted to buy and more I wanted to try on. I asked the clerk about getting change and she said she would call her manager to open the register and give me change. My car was directly in front of the store. The manager was busy telling an online customer she could not return her items in the store she would have to send them by mail, that customer left the store irritated. The manager then turned to me and said, we don't give change, you have to go down the street to the change box. Her attitude was so bad, I was very surprised. I said I wanted to buy this pile of clothes on the counter plus I had more in the dressing room. She said sorry, you have to get your own change. I was shocked and walked out. The gap lost a very large sale. I noticed the change box was very close. If the manager would have communicated this in a positive way I would have had no problem. I will not go back. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. read more

This gap has some great deals so I really like to shop here. However they will not get you a size while you are in the fitting room so the service is horrible. Like most places some employees are friendly and some are not. Still I'm glad we have a gap in town. read more

Incredibly poor customer service on the manager, Gigi's part. I made a purchase but it was rung up incorrectly, and to boot, the printer that was used jammed the receipt. It apparently does this with all the receipts but they continue to use it. When I tried to return 2 of the shirts that I purchased, because they rang it up incorrectly and charged me for 3 of one thing that I only bought 2 of, and 1 of the shirts I bought 2 of, they wouldn't accept the return. The jammed receipt just caused further conusion. In comes Manager Gigi, whose first words when she was called over were "I don't have time for this." I was the only person at the counter and almost the only person in the store. She then went to the back and supposedly looked at the tape of my purchase 5 days earlier, told me the way it was rung up was correct. Essentially, she lied and accused me of being a liar. She refused to let me see the tape. This woman clearly hates her job and had decided from the moment she was called over that she wasn't going to resolve this. She never apologized for the inconvenience, never stated she was there to help resolve this, just accused me of lying. 45 minutes of waiting in a near empty store to be told I am lying. Unbelievable. Now I have a shirt I don't need and they have my money. read more
