I went on a treasure hunt during the beginning of Shelter in Place for two articles of clothing from a hard to find Scandinavian brand called Just Female, as couch shopping and traveling were all that one could do for awhile. I was pleased to find one half of the outfit online at Cameron Marks Boutique. I giddily added to my cart and it was at my door before I knew it, and carefully packaged and shipped. Love supporting small, curated boutiques who source interesting things, and Cameron Marks seems to fit that bill. The other half of my outfit came from a shop in Toronto, Canada, so I definitely think I'll be visiting Cameron Marks first as I live in the Bay Area. Beautifully and carefully curated collection of goods ranging from office to kitchen to skin care to outdoors. Pricey but fun! Malin & Goetz, Aarke, Baggu, hand crafted pottery / ceramics & jewelry, candles, Aesop... the list goes on. I love their greeting card selection - creative & witty & one of a kind. A little on the upper scale for home goods but very unique finds. Fun place to browse and kill time because you'll find very interesting items. You bet we didn't leave empty handed. We came upon this boutique while wandering the shops and eateries of a plaza that consisted mostly of breweries and a few wineries in the area. Upon entering I was impressed at the variety of merchandise on display. It was interesting to find so many items that enticed one to feel drawn into buying it because it was something you felt you needed. I was already on the lookout in trying to find a pair of brown sweat pants that would match my sweater. When I spotted it in the clothing section, I was excited to see that they had my size! However, once I saw the price of $139.00 I decided that my money could be better spent elsewhere. That's when I took a closer look to find that just about everything in the store was outrageously priced! Sure, it is a cute and quaint little shop, but not good enough to earn a purchase from me! Perfectly curated boutique/home goodies shop in the 'breweries area' of Santa Cruz. I went last week and my friends and I spent quite a long time checking and touching and trying everything (finally one of my friends did not go empty handed and got some kitchen gear for camping purposes. If I was not travelling for business trip I would have bought a bunch of unique things (but my carry-on was limited:). I loved all the colors, how they put the fabrics together, the food containers with salsas and others together matching the design. There is no lack of design and humor (check those cards!) in this boutique. I also loved the pastel pink walls in the clothing section, makes it so peaceful and pretty. We also loved that there was no pressure to buy, just to visually enjoy if that is what we wanted. read more

My favorite kind of shop- eclectic, brimming with a variety of thoughtfully curated and artfully designed products. Some things with a sense of humor, other things with mikes of style or effortlessly chic. I'm still thinking about that gorgeous composite cutting board, and the variety of interesting looking scissors. Def worth a look-see. CM has been my always favorite! ....until they hired this asian staff who always makes me feel uncomfortable shopping there. I don't know what her problem is but she has been giving me attitudes every time I visit CM. I guess she is one of those asian hater asian. Yesterday I visited CM picked some stuff and wait "right in front of the register" to pay. She was at the register but busy with txting with her phone. I was standing for 3 min waiting but she has not giving me a glance even I was "right in front of her" - then another customer came for return & exchange at she counter next to the casher and she put her phone away and helped that white lady "right away" , ignoring me who had been standing waiting way before. It was not the first time she but 4th time she game me an attitude. When I asked about sweater size I really like , she looked at me from head to toe slowly and told me "Noah, that's only one size!". What's wrong? Was my outfit disapproved to purchase your sweater? Here is one more, she was folding T shits and I pick one T shirt next to and she RAISED her voice and told me "let me get your size just tell me!" I felt like - am I not allowed to touch anything at this store without asking you?? Enough. Dear CM, I really love your store but please hire BETTER. Watch your staff. Discipline your staff better. I'd better shopping online until she quit stupidity childish attitude. read more

Lovely shop with a niche selection. I loved the inventory on the webstore and decided to come in, excited to support a small and curated business. I will not be returning, however, because I was shocked and appalled at the experience I had with the staff. It's important to note here that I'm a young woman of color. One woman in particular, watched me closely from behind the counter as I looked at their wallet selection (I worked in retail as a college student, so I understand that you should generally stay vigilant)-I thought nothing of it until I went over to her and asked a question about whether they had other colors in stock, to which she responded, "Did you see the price?" Yes, I had. When I told her I'd take it, she tilted and inspected my debit card closely for a lengthy amount of time-I had never had this happen to me before. I could not believe my ears and eyes. Whether this was deliberate or not, please work on curbing your bias and treating your customers equally. It's a shame-this looks like a promising shop, but I, as a person of color, had an unpleasant and disheartening shopping experience. read more

Stopped off the highway for lunch from San Francisco to Carmel and found this gem of a store. Super cute home goods, clothing, jewelry, etc. So many amazing candles. Love the toothpaste they sell! This shop either doesn't like P.O.C's or children. Stopped by with my family to browse, my partner was interested in some trays they had. I was around my kids the entire time they didn't do anything bad. They have some pencils around to test and my kids did just that. Apparently while I was watching my son my partner noticed an older woman come close to my 8 year old daughter and grabbed a notepad she just looked at and replaced it while staring down my partner. We weren't overly loud/ disruptive or disrespectful. Don't know if it was a bad day but based on other reviews I doubt it. First and last time coming in. read more

As a few other reviews have stated, the store itself is a gem and I just wish the staff were more respectful, one middle aged white woman in particular. One visit into the store, I was watched like a hawk perusing through the wallets and other home goods. I'm not sure if I looked "suspicious" because I was wearing a helmet and carrying my bike pannier on my shoulder so it wouldn't get stolen off my bike, or if my biker look was offensive, lol, but to this day thinking of how this employee treated me when I asked questions and ultimately did make a purchase, begrudgingly, makes my stomach drop. Another visit in, however, I was not wearing my bike garb, and this same employee was actually helpful by offering me a discount on a display piece, and touched my *expensive* ring without asking permission asking if it was a certain designer as I was paying at the counter. This felt to me as if the employee now thought I earned respect because of my socioeconomic status (which in reality is vastly different from the expensive ring I am still paying off via payment plan lol). So yeah, hire better, CM!!! I love the store, but with one employee in particular, I truly don't feel welcomed or like my business is appreciated or wanted. Finally, please make hours more accessible to people who actually have jobs and work during 11-4! read more

I actually didn't have time to shop the first time I walked by the store, so I came all the way back the next day. I had a really unpleasant experience with the lady that worked there. I walked in and took a picture of the store as it was beautifully decorated and the got immediately yelled at- "Excuse me, the owner doesn't like people taking pictures of the store." I was like ok, no worries. (While thinking that's kinda weird.) Then she kept talking about it. Why are you taking pictures? Did the owner say you can take pictures? I was so taken aback, I immediately left the store. This store lost a huge sale and a lifetime customer. read more

In need of a nice, unique, high quality gift? You could probably find something here. Cameron Marks has a great selection of items for almost any person, if you are willing to spend a bit more. I find that what I save in time running around looking for the "right" thing is well worth the money spent. They have a great selection of cards to go with your gift as well. There are two locations here, one with mostly home goods and jewelry and another with women's clothing. Both are highly curated and support a lot of locally produced goods, supporting ethically produced goods. I'd love to be able to furnish my home and closet with goods from Cameron Marks. I also feel inspired to redecorate and simplify when I visit. read more

My favorite place for clothes in Santa Cruz has a lovely new look -- blush walls and white accents. It's such a fun place to shop. So many great things here! They always carry interesting designers, including Ulla Johnson, No. 6, Xirena, and Rachel Comey. While they carry a good selection of denim and tshirts, this isn't the place for basics. You go for the edgy separates and sculptural dresses. They've got some amazing clogs right now. The sale rack is always worth a look as well. I've gotten some fantastic pieces at great prices. The service is uniformly good. The staff really knows the inventory and is always happy to pull a size or make a recommendation. The counter always has a really tightly edited selection of cosmetics (French Girl lip balm, I'm looking at you) and they have a house perfume oil that I love. It smells like Morocco via California. It is beautifully curated with a wide range of items from all styles of clothing, jewelry, shoes, and jeans to household goods, books and art supplies.I always find new items to check out and never leave disappointed. This is one of my favorite boutiques. The selection is small, but very carefully chosen - so you don't have to comb through dull stuff looking for the gems. I always have a hard time choosing what to buy, simply because I want everything that they have in stock! They have wonderful, unique jewelry from local Santa Cruz artists as well as from Australia. I picked up a gorgeous jewelry stand designed to look like a gum tree - which is utilitarian as well as unique and beautiful. And I can't tell you how often I get compliments from strangers on the varied goodies I've gotten from Cameron Marks - everything from a Bungalow 360 purse to local designer earrings. Vanessa, one of the co-owners, is often in the shop and is one of the nicest proprietors I've ever met. She always remembers me when I stop by - even though I no longer live in Santa Cruz! There are so many fun and stylish items throughout the entire place. There really is something for every taste, and every area of life. I personally fell in love with pretty much every piece of jewelry in the place, as well as all of the candles and home goods. I highly recommend this store for anyone looking for a perfect and elegant gift. Awesome little shop(s) that I never new existed. Now I know where to go for anything handmade and well crafted. The owner is extremely nice and the shop has lots of great items. I definitely recommend checking it out. Really nice selection of upscale and quality clothes, soaps, jewelry, small gifts, etc., but definitely not a place that you can shop at all the time without going relatively bankrupt. But everything is so comfortable here! The prices are worth it for those few pieces that you can wear over and over again. I just bought a pair of jeans here, and the salesperson was very helpful, knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. Plus, the jeans feel amazing. Wonderful boutique, rather off the beaten path, to me anyway. But once I got there and saw the other businesses I realized this is THE spot to shop and relax in Santa Cruz. In other words, no street people! You can shop for clothes and wine, and hit a bakery - how perfect is that? Cameron Marks has a wonderful array of clothes and jewelry. A bit too much of it made in China for my taste but I won't ding them a star. Not far from Mission Street (hiway 1) and fairly easy to find. Cameron Marks is soon moving to bigger digs across the way and next to the bakery where they'll have shoes and more accessories. I scored a great dress and am lusting after a few more things. I popped into this store randomly after finding the public restroom and then having lunch at Kelly's, just across the way. I LOVE THIS STORE. Had no intention of shopping but spent a long time in the small, eclectic, lovely shop. Bought a wart hog bottle opener, some wood boxes shaped like diamonds (cute!!) and a couple of other odds and ends I never knew I needed but could not live without. There is so much great in this store. The decor, the selection, the ambience, the location, the levity, and the proprietress, by the name of Vanessa, who was lovely, friendly, outgoing and fun. It is a perfect shopping experience. I wish my own store was more like this one. So, so nice. I recommend it highly. Also a great selection of unique greeting cards, designer jewelry and such awesome gifts. I will shop at Cameron Marks Boutique each year when I visit Santa Cruz. It was the highlight of my vacation. Well, I'm always on the look out for that stylish one of a kind piece & I must say, this place is not only a rip-off, but their taste stinks. Let me give you an example: a metal cuff at Cameron Marks costs $125. The exact same cuff costs $60 at Macy's. I kid you not. In my opinion, this is a great place to shop if you're lazy & rich & don't know how to put yourself together. You want style? Get in your car & drive to SF & go to Bloomingdale's. Check out the latest styles. Shop one season off, take note of your best & worst assets. Then go to H&M & stock up on the basics. Add a dash of Goodwill items & make sure you have good shoes & a great purse. Ladies, high priced boutiques are exploiting you. Take charge! read more

Adorable and modern at the same time. I was on my way to another shop in the same complex and got completely sidetracked by this shop. The place sucked me in with it's window display and open door. The boutique feels European with the array of stuff it carries in such a small space. I loved the jewelery - very modern, as well as the colorful stuffed toys and the cool felted bags and accessories. I didn't have a chance to get a good look at the clothes because I was shopping with a 2-year-old who thought the next stop was the beach, so I have to get back there to take my time and get a better look. read more

Not only is this the best place to shop for a great pair of jeans (James Brand, which I love), but they've got great tees and some really fun things across the courtyard in their smaller boutique. We buy a lot of unique presents here, including a mechanical grasshopper, a giant stuffed giraffe, black & red espadrilles, fabulous earrings and jewelry (!), and my kids go in to buy me chocolate bars that are out of this world.
