First time trying Garage Bar and was pleasantly surprised. Greeted warmly by Sarah behind the bar. And then met the new owners who were very friendly and welcoming and are trying to improve the kitchen and liquor offerings as well as the reputation of this establishment. They've cleaned it up and seem to be trying very hard to make a nice establishment. We enjoyed the food which is typical bar food offerings but done well. WOW!!! First time patron... last time. This place needs to be on TV show "Bar Rescue" because of the shenanigans performed by bar tenders! The one bartender with blonde super curly hair was wearing a stripper outfit and twerking with her barely there mini skirt and easy to see thong on for all the men at the bar. Not to mention the two handfuls of shots she did with other patrons only added to her belligerent behavior. The other bartender was clearly picking up the slack but was also drinking heavily. Both were very pleasant with us but not very attentive. Food was good. Witnessed multiple people coming to the bar and waiting to be served and leaving without being helped after several minutes. The bar was not that busy and had many open seats mind you. I will mention, I put myself through school being a bartender and I know that letting loose with regulars helped build lasting friendships but I could never imagine getting that intoxicated while at work. I'm hoping that the owners of this bar aren't loosing their asses on giving away merchandise. If I was the owner, I would literally fire everyone but the cook. if you want a freak show.... This is your place to go. BTW... giving 2 stars because my food was good and beer was cold. read more

Stopped in for a quick drink and was ignored by both bartenders. Relatively small bar, only had about 10 customers inside when I arrived. Both of the young ladies behind the bar walked by me taking care of everyone else and even checking up on people who already ordered and got their drinks. Eventually, I got one of their attention and said I'd like to order and it was like I suddenly appeared out of the ether right before her eyes. They obviously didn't feel like serving me for whatever reason. I payed for two drinks ahead of time, which she made at once filled with ice so I literally had a quick drink and got out of there. Would NOT trust booking events based off my experience. I booked my husband's 50th birthday gathering with Mckenzie and Danni 2 months in advance. They were both terrific and displayed excellent customer service skills. I felt comfortable and confident that I was in good hands. Then 2 weeks before our big day, I get notified by Erin (new management) that I would need to pick a new date because they were now hosting some type of Bar Olympics on the same day and we would probably clash with the younger crowd. All I kept thinking was WOW, great way to treat someone and leave them hanging. I ended up moving our small get together to Two Bucks and had an amazing time thanks to Amber and her staff! I am definitely being generous because we are still in the COVID-19 pandemic and we've not been anywhere to eat since December. But upon arriving to a completely empty restaurant/bar at 1230 on Sunday for lunch, it was not a great experience. Sat at the bar and noticed the two (2) see though partitions are not stationary which means they can be moved as needed. Fine. However, the bar stools don't have much room between them so if you want to sit at the bar, you are definitely sitting too close to someone you don't know. Sat down and immediately ordered the .20 mussels. 5 minutes later we ordered our food. A few ppl showed up after about 15 minutes of arriving. They only ordered drinks. Mussels took at least 25 minutes. Food took about 30. Remember, we were the only good order. Mussels were super tiny, my wrap was good for sure but the fish sandwich my husband had was hammered. Maybe their wings and burgers are good but for us, it's not a place we'll revisit. read more

This is probably the nicest "dive bar" I've ever been to. I've passed The Garage Bar a dozen times, but never went in until a friend invited me to his stand-up comedy show there. I wouldn't call this a "date place," but I definitely would take my husband or some pals there for another comedy show or for some affordable drinks and wings. It looks a little bland from the outside, but the menu is surprisingly large (I liked the chicken sliders and mozzarella cheese wedges!), the game room in the back is HUGE (it includes two pool tables, four dart boards, and SKI BALL!!!), and the bartenders were very attentive. Oh, and make sure to play some Prince music on the TouchTunes jukebox - the ladies serving drinks will love you for it! read more

I would NEVER go to this bar to eat unless I was absolutely plastered or starving and no other place was open and that would still be slim. Got a small Caesar salad and it apparently comes with tomato's on it. We were the only ones who ordered and 2 other people at the bar and it took 35mins for wings and fries. I know wings take a minute to cook but absolutely uncalled for. HOLY salt on fries it's like the person put a pound on. Wings were slimy and gross. Also asked for ranch which i expect to get charged for but 3.00 for 2 side cups half full?! I could have went to store for that. Overall top 5 worst places we have eaten at and we have been to quit a few questionable places LOL. Also service not the best took about 10 mins for my boyfriend to get another drink when there was only 2 others inside I guess they only care about "posting photos" to advertise then taking care of there customers. read more

This is the quintessential dive bar. The food was decent but the burger was over cooked. The fire fries are spicy but over powering on the hot dog. I really enjoyed the mac-n-cheese and the beer was almost cold enough. The real downfall was not getting a clean glass for our second beer (this was not a busy day) and the bartender seemed more interested in the regulars than the new people. The menu was very limited. Don't go there expecting a selection of pizzas. There is only one available. You can customize your hot dog the way you like it and the garage burger came on a nice garlic French bread, cut to size. read more

Classic Dive Bar, but with great food. This place is interesting from when you go in. They have some table games such as table bowling and air hockey. They also have a small concert area where they have comedians, band, etc. I was there at an off time, so it was relatively slow, but was getting busy while people were waiting for a band to start. The food was good. There was few choices, the main dishes are hot dogs, sliders, and burgers. There is probably 25 toppings to pick from for your hot dog, which makes things fun. The prices are decent. The service was also good (from a brand new waitress). This place is interesting how they integrate staff into their design. Their facebook posts introduce them and they have specialty cocktails that each bartender make up. This place also has good specials. On Saturday afternoon, they have $1 sliders, which I will have to check out sometime. read more

Our group stopped in over the weekend and left after one round of drinks. The bartenders were inattentive and too busy focusing on who seemed to be the regulars and getting drunk behind the bar. It took a few minutes for us to even get acknowledged, and one of my friend's drink was incorrect. Instead of trying to point this out to the obnoxious bartender, we paid without mentioning it. Also, I wouldn't consider this bar a true DTW location, it's away from the action. I guess this could be a fun spot if you hired staff with better customer service. We won't return. read more

Me and a group of four of my friends went and got Wings on Monday they brought out 20 of my friends Wings maybe 20 minutes after nobody else receive received wings until 40 minutes later and then after waiting an hour for 10 of my 20 wings a half hour later the bartender finally tells me there's no more wings not only this we had to walk up and get our own drinks at our table of 4 and after I walked up and asked for two beers she brings one beer I mean she does have two hands and then tells me she'll be back with the other beer while she walks around carrying nothing I don't understand it and I don't care cuz I'll never be back.. and not only this they shorted me to Wings last week that I was told were dropped on the floor and they bring out never got those and also never took them off my bill I'm done I'll find somewhere else..they also served other people their wings before i got mine who walked in after me and my friend didnt receive his other 10..very very dissapointed read more
