Have been here many many times. I never stay long enough bc the bar staff just isn't that friendly and they look like they hate working there. But my friend loves their pizza My last 2 experiences were enough to find a new spot. Had a breakfast with a group of girls whom we all come from the industry so we know what good server/bartender traits are, and we are very easy to serve as we know customers can be difficult. Needless to say she had the easiest table, but unfortunately the service fell short. Our server Emily didn't seem very friendly or approachable. Never smiled, never checked in on our table. Our joiners had to go to the bar and order drinks and take them to the table themselves.. More attentiveness and warmth would have made the experience much better. They weren't busy either. The very last time we sat at a table on a weekday evening...not sure if they are supposed to come serve us or what but I went up to the bar to get soda. Went back up to order. Went back up bc they forgot my dipping sauce. Went back up bc we had no silverware. Went back up for refills . Went back up to ask for the check. Like should I tip myself.?, cuz I did all the work?! The vibe is sort of like a cool dive bar. Beers were not too expensive. Available drafts were just ok. They do not have enough wait staff to work the bar and food service very well. First time there recently, we sat at the bar. The female bartender was very attentive. I got the pizza which was one of the best I've had in Northeast Ohio. The organization, as far as service goes, leaves much to be desired. We were led in and ask to sit where we liked. Some time passed, and I started looking for our server, and he has already talked to and brought drinks to two other tables that were seated after us, and we were still waiting for us to come greet us. By the time he came to the table, he was a bit apologetic so I asked if they are short staffed, and he says no, there just aren't designated sections for them. By the time he returns with our drinks, the other tables are getting their food. We finally get our food, which arrived very quickly after ordering, and everything arrived as ordered which was nice. I did enjoy my eggs and veggies (I believe it's called "The Garbage Can" on the menu), and my rye toast, but the bacon was soggy, and the sausage was rubbery and both breakfast meats had a bit of a strange flavor. My bf's French toast was a 3 inch thick hunk of French bread that was lazily battered and served with overly sweet cranberry sauce. Not what you'd expect when ordering French toast, and was not good. The eggs Benedict he got were well prepared and had a good flavor. Eventually we are finished with our meals, after some time passes, our server takes our plates and we ask for the check. Another 15 minutes pass. I notice our server is behind the bar, making drinks, chitchatting with other tables, bringing drink refills to other tables, and we just want to leave. We basically had to flag him down to take our payment. He's seems like a sweet guy but very unfocused, and has no business being behind the bar making mixed drinks, washing cups, and bullshitting with the customers seated at the bar when he should just be paying attention to his tables. The ambience is booty. The TouchTunes jukebox volume is so low that we couldn't hear the songs we paid for, but then once the bar's radio resumes that plays at an audible level. Don't offer this service to patrons if you don't want to listen to other music. Perhaps if some things improve as far as service go, I may give it a second chance, but with as many good brunch places there are in the area, I won't go out of my way to return. My bf definitely does not want to come back here, and that says a lot because he's pretty laid back and empathetic to the service industry. read more

I will never come back here. Went out for drinks with friends last night and ordered some long islands, which were ok but weren't made right. I came back for more and the bartender with dark hair (her name is Alana) says "I'm not f*cking making those anymore, can't you just get a f*cking beer or something?" I asked what her problem was and she started saying how they're annoying to make or something.... isn't that your job? Mind you, the long island has been the drink of the month for 3 years according the people who were next to me. This was all after she refused to serve the couple at the bar before me for probably also not wanting to do her job. She asked me what else I wanted and I said gin tonics. She asked what kind of gin and I said bottom shelf. She then started accusing me of being underage (I'm 23) because everyone comes in asking for bottom shelf and that they should know what kind of liquor they want... so I said Bombay (because who tf knows bottom shelf brands?!), she made them and then goes over and complains to the bouncer about checking IDs. Shortly after she refused to serve my friend because she "didn't know him" and told him he looked 16. We closed our tabs and left. I can't understate how rude the bartender was. She probably needs to be fired ASAP if she thinks it's ok to treat patrons the way we were treated, and she's definitely too much of a moron to do anything other than pour beer. read more

This is the first time I have had to get up and just walk out of a resturant.. Walked in, was told to sit wherever. It took at least 10 minutes for anyone to come over which was fine. PS they were not busy. After we ordered our drinks, our waitress brought them over holding them to her chest, while trying to bend over and set them down on the table, spilling them all over herself. Was the most bizarre thing.. The orange juice was sour and funky (like it was spoiled) and was brought in a completely cracked glass (no way they did not notice this?) After that, we placed our food order and waited over an hour. And it was not busy! Two tables that came in 20 min after us, got their food 20 min before us.. The waitress then came over and said "oh where's your food??" We were asking the same question. She then said oh it'll be 3 more minutes, they gave your food to the wrong table" after waiting another 10 minutes with no updates we just got up and left. This review is only for the Sunday brunch. I have not experienced West End Tavern otherwise. I've gone a couple of times now and sat at the bar. I think Sunday brunch is from 10a-2p and I would recommend getting there early as it does fill up and get busy. There is a friendly older guy that helps out the bar staff and my server has always been this dark haired girl who calls everyone honey/hunny. She does a pretty good job and I have no complaints about the service. Also, funny to note that I am listed as "Gal" on my receipts. I like to go and chill, they have wifi so I just read some reddit nonsense and enjoy my meal/drink. I prefer the bloody mary over the mimosa. For food I've tried the stuffed french toast $10.95 and the combo $11.95 which has one french toast and one eggs benedict. Both tasty and filling. I like how the home fries are legit sliced home fries cooked on a grill and not this new fad of deep frying chunks of potato. There are other items on the menu, but when you really enjoy something it's hard to switch to something new. Some notes: After Sunday brunch they switch straight to dinner service, no lunch items can be ordered. Also, you cannot order take-out during Sunday brunch. Came here for a drink and decided to eat too after perusing the menu. The Browns game was on, so there were several groups of people there for the game. The audio was SO LOUD, but that's to be expected on game day. They have a nice variety of beer and wine, but most of the craft beer is in bottles or cans (and not very clearly marked) so I ended up ordering a craft can when I really just wanted a draught. No problem though, as the drink prices here are pretty good. The draught list is only about 6 beers. Our server was pretty attentive even though she was the only one working, and she was very friendly. I ordered the veggie burger, as I was intrigued that they made it in-house and it had a mix of various beans and raisins in it. It had a good flavor and chewy texture, but at least 1/4 of it was SO HARD. I couldn't figure out if it was dried out/old or if they just left it on the grill too long, but it wasn't burnt so who knows. My husband got the blackened grouper sandwich, and that was a winner for sure - a large piece of flaky grilled fish with really zesty seasoning that had the perfect amount of spice. My mother-in-law got the filet special that had shrimp on top. For the price it looked a little underwhelming to me, but she enjoyed it. I liked the cool divey (but not gross) old school vibe of this place, and I suspect if lived nearby I'd come more frequently. Nothing blew me away, but a solid choice for drinks and lunch. read more

We had driven downtown to have a good time, and upon showing up, the bartender was annihilated and giving out the wrong drinks and charging couples for higher tabs. We gave our drink order, however she forgot the beers were for us and gave them to someone else, but charged us $45 for two beers. Will never come back again. read more

First things first, our server was very open about his opinion of the food - he said it was pretty bad, but then quickly caught himself and said it is good. We have 5 people at our table- each ordering something different. Everyone's dish did not look appetizing and tasted the same as well. Bloody mary didn't taste right. Service was poor- our server disappeared, so we had to go get someone for help and to close our tab. The only good thing about it is that they took some stuff off our bill. Day or night, this place is awesome to check out. For weekends, this is my go-to brunch place. It's one of my favorites I've been to in the area. The food is great and they offer a Bloody Mary bar on Saturdays as well as "Mega Mimosas." During the week, I'll normally be found here Wednesday nights when they offer $2 drinks from a wide list of specified options. Bring your friends and everyone can get a round for cheap. They've got other assorted deals depending on the weekday, so be sure to check them out to find out which day is best for you. West End Tavern can get pretty crowded on weekend nights. That being said, you can expect to wait a while for a drink. I've typically seen 2 or 3 bartenders working and the bar area is not extensive. If people are hanging out at the bar, I've had times where it's taken about ten minutes to make your way to the front and wait to be served. The staff has always been nice throughout all of my visits and I'm sure the amount of people packing the place has got to be way more overwhelming for them than the wait is for me. read more

Brought our fam in for brunch on a Sunday. Was pleasantly surprised that there was no wait and that we were able to be seated immediately. The menu had so many great options, it took a long time to decide what to get. We ended up trying the chicken and waffles, Santa Monica rise and shine and the regular French toast. The chicken and waffles was good! The rise and shine has way too much asparagus on it and the home fries were just ok. The French toast was good but we should have tried the stuffed version. I had a hunch I'd like this brunch a bunch! And I did! Met up with a few friends recently for a lazy Sunday brunch. The interior is cozy, inviting and comfortable. Notes of dark wooden trim, intricately painted tall coffered ceilings & walls. Seating can be selected from intimate booths, high top tables or at the bar. Being a bar, we had the luxury of ordering Bloody Mary's or Mimosa's. Everyone at the table opted for the Bloody Mary's which came adorned with a celery stalk and a lime wedge. Hints of Worcestershire Sauce, Tabasco, salt, pepper and of course Vodka were all evident. Smooth yet not too spicy. An appropriate way to begin the brunch. The menu appeared quite inspired and refreshingly creative. If you're looking for a typical bacon and eggs scrambler, you won't find that here. The menu instead offered Texas French Toast schmered with cream cheese and topped with seasonal fruit, Omelets and Frittatas of various varieties, Pot Roast Hash, Eggs Benedict with a twist (steak instead of Canadian bacon) and more. After much debate, I chose the "combo" which included a serving of the Eggs Benedict with Steak along with a serving of the French Toast. Both were, well, for a lack of a better term.... AMAZING! While the service and speed at which orders come out of the kitchen could probably use improving on, I didn't seem to mind. Yes, it took longer than one would generally be accustomed to and it was pretty busy for a Sunday, but when it comes down to it, there's really no need to be in a rush on a Sunday. I have Been a fan of west end for the affordable Prices and loud music. However twice now we were treated like dog shit by either the staff or not the staff we couldn't tell. They legit twice now served us drinks around 1:50am, then called last call at 2. That's not the issue, we clearly know our last drink, however have been screamed at to "get the fuck out" even with full drinks prior to closing. I've never experienced anything like this, either it's shit management or losers working there but I will never go back and I feel sad about that because I've had so much fun at this place prior. As a customer who is just sitting down minding my business I don't expect the be treated like a child. Maybe you should advertise you close at 2:00pm and stop serving drinks 10 minutes before you kick people out. read more

For brunch in Lakewood, this spot is pretty good. We started our meal with $5 mimosas, although there was a make your own Bloody Mary bar. The Saturday brunch menu isn't huge but enough options that everyone will leave satisfied. The service was better than I expected, and the wait time for food was fairly short. I ordered the West End Omelette, which originally came out without the bacon or sausage. Once I asked it appeared in less than a minute. The omelette was nothing spectacular, kinda smaller than I expected. However my friend got the Bacon, Apple and Cheddar Omelette which looked amazing. Westend Tavern had a menu full of brunch items I would love to try like pot roast hash and frittatas, but I ended up going for the much recommended almond paste french toast with berry compote and it was really great. I would have preferred the bread a little more saturated with the french toast soak, but the other ingredients were so good, I was totally on board. And not that I needed the home fries and bacon AND sausage, but I got them with the meal and it was delicious! Meat: Spicy, saucy and yea, sure, it's maybe a little on the low-end. At the same time, they gave me lots. Yay! Shell: They have a baked shell which sort of crumbles when you eat it. It tasted healthy too, and I'm not sure if that's good or bad? It was different. Let's keep with that. Toppings: Lettuce, Tomatos, Cheese and a side of both sour cream and salsa. No problems here!
