We didn't sit inside so I can only comment on the patio - it was spacious and clean. Only downside is it's paid parking though that's not the fault of the business. Brand new brew pub behind main drag of Erie St. in downtown Willoughby. They opened 2 weeks before our visit. They currently offer 6 beers they brew on tap, and Yuengling. Full bar with mixed drinks is available, and pub food such as pizza, nachos, and sandwiches. They don't have flights, which is a bit disappointing because we'd like to try all their beers. We were able to get samples, which gave us an idea on where to start. Overall, it was a nice little addition to Willoughby. read more

It's not often you get to say your experience was perfect. First, the GM, Izzy was knowledgeable, kind, entertaining and engaging. My server Sidney was charming, helpful, efficient and encompassing. Perfect service all around. The pizza is...for lack of a better phrase... life changing. The sauce was flavorful and distinct but didn't overpower the toppings. The crust was crispy but chewy. It's probably the best pizza I have ever had. The Happy Sunshine beer was light, crisp, and refreshing but I added orange slices to it that gave it more complexity. It is open and roomy. Family friendly. Just an amazing place. It may be a bit pricey on the food in some places but so reasonable in others and the drinks were priced well below what they are worth. Had a free evening and decided to visit this new brewery. Depending on which way you come into the parking lot you may see the old sign of the previous Willoughby Brewing Company still up, but on the entrance side of building there is the Tricky Tortoise Brewing name in huge letters. Was a Saturday eve, the parking lot was full and with the weather being great their patios were busy. We came in and were seated fairly quickly. From the moment we sat down we were constantly checked on for service which was fantastic. We ordered a a few beers to try and had a couple of the ones we preferred. Ordered food and was not disappointed. The food, beer and service will have us return. We hope it stays that way. Also love that beers appear to always be Happy Hour price vs other breweries which is nice. read more

Had the Sky burst IPA. Very good. Hubby had Vedett which is a guest Tap. He liked it. Ordered SPO pizza and Sausage stuffed peppers which had a little kick and. was just right for us. We decided to try this place as it was new to DTW. We first ran into the issue of parking; be prepared to pay $6 for parking in the restaurant's lot. The restuarant itself is quite bland inside (I noticed someone mentioned the broken blinds, and I did see those as well), but the service was pleasant. I got the Blueberry Lemonade cocktail, and it was quite good, well-balanced and you could actually taste the drink it was meant to be. They have a limited beer list, and the food menu is your average bar menu. I felt as though we should've had an appetizer evening instead, but we wanted to try the actual meals. The pulled pork sandwich was dry and limited on BBQ sauce, and you should be able to taste how it was "cooked in their own brew," but it didn't quite hit the mark. Next, the pizza was okay; it was cooked well, but you could tell the crust wasn't homemade or fresh. It would be interesting if they had just a few specialties that separated them from other bars in the area, but it could be a good hangout every now and again. It wasn't a terrible experience, but I probably won't go back. Parking: The parking lot for Tricky Tortoise, Sol, Barrio, and basically that little strip are private property, not public parking. The sign says "all day parking $6," but we only spent about an hour in the lot. Kind of awkward that you need to pay to be a patron of the restaurant. read more

We stopped in for dinner in May. Such a lovely historic building, but they missed the attention to detail in cleaning it. They may have new floors and a new bar top, but they still have filthy bathrooms and old, broken dusty blinds, as well as old television mounts in the wall with no TVs mounted. And the once lovely patio looks like a roadside truck stop patio. Just the basics. If you don't like craft beer they do not offer seltzers or any other bottled alcohol. The liquor offering is limited to about 4 choices, literally 4 bottles of liquor on their bar Absolut, Jack Daniels, Tanqueray and something else. The most bizarre was at the time we were there they did not offer flights of beer to sample. Never been to a brewery who didn't offer flights. Food is fine, basic bar food. The service was top notch, kind, and professional. read more

Extremely under staffed on a Sunday afternoon. Our party of four ordered IPA's. They were served barely colder than room temperature. When I asked why so warm, the waitress told me she could bring some ice. Ice? We immediately cancelled our food order, guzzled and paid for our warm beers and raced out the door. Was there for the first time about two weekends ago. The place was pretty packed. Love the vibe and history of the place and the band playing was actually pretty good. Did not try any of the food as I was there to try the beers. Unfortunately the ones I tried were very underwhelming and boring. They really need to step up their beer game. read more

We hosted a party there - over a year of planning went into this event. Originally we had a great contact and everything was running smoothly. When this person left, the new person was terrible at communication (wouldn't respond to emails and when I went into the restaurant to follow up, I was treated like an inconvenience.) The day of event nothing was set up, the events manager was not even on premise, and although we had given them a schedule of when food should be ready - the food still came out 30 minutes late. Their response was "the restaurant got busy." (Don't you think your kitchen staff would plan ahead for a big event!?) Also, they ran out of silverware the night of the event - some people had to eat with a knife because there weren't enough forks at dinner time. We had over 90 people and there was 1 bartender for us - she was overworked and rightfully annoyed. Overall, our event was great - but that's only because we picked up the pieces and we're super organized knowing the restaurant would likely not be on their A game. Bummer because it's a cool place and good location - but I would not host another party there! read more
