A few months later, the "free quick fixes" had outlived their life, and I actually needed someone to come see me ($99 service call). It took Phillip 3 minutes to diagnose my problem, and offer a solution. He had the gear in the truck and 30 minutes later, it was completely repaired. I had asked Phillip, what I pay you to repair this plus the service call fee, and it doesn't work. With all of the assurance he could muster, he simply said, "That's the problem. That's the fix. It will work, period". I love when a professional who sees similar problems dozens of times a day doesn't try to bamboozle you, take advantage, or upsell you. "This is the problem, this is the fix, it will work. Period". BTW... Phillip is the 3rd company I had talked to. One company wanted to rewire my entire garage, and sell me an entire new lift kit... $8000.00. I won't name them. The 2nd company said, "$6000 but your wiring might not be a problem". Phillip at Garage Door Medics said, "It's a problem with the receiver going bad. Your clicker doesn't work, your button on your wall does... there' no wiring issue. $200 plus service call fee". Positives, Caleb is a super nice person, very personable and I think genuinely wants to do the right thing. Negatives, the gate worked for maybe a week after he came out to fix it. They have a 30 day guarantee, but when they block your phone number where it automatically goes to a busy signal after one ring, it's hard to be happy. I tried for multiple days thinking it was just their system being down. Tried a friends phone and it went through with no problem. The call center was "surprised" by this, yet I tried calling right after I got off my friends phone and got a ring and quick busy signal again on mine. Got Caleb scheduled to come back out and it worked for less than a day. Tried calling and sure enough busy signal. Tried another friends phone and boom I got through. After politely and professionally describing my scenario to the call center, they told me they'd have the COO call me to discuss the situation because somebody else was out of the office. 5 days later, I've yet to hear anything. read more

This is a very sketchy company!!! They came in April and changed my garage door springs, wheels, and the cables for $700. Then in May the entire door derailed and they charged me another $99 to look at it. Once they looked at it they said they're not sure why it derailed, so $300 later they put it all back together till this morning when I came home the garage door derailed again. So I called them and the owner said I woke me up at 6am to tell him my garage is broken(keep in mind these guys are 24/7). I tried to explain that I have an emergency on my hand and he simply hanged up on me. When we called back to complaint, they said they'll send someone and we waited all day and no one showed up. I am sure they did something wrong and hence why the garage door has derailed twice in less than 4 months. Obviously customer service and work ethic is meaningless for these vultures! read more

Our garage door has given us problems, since we first moved into our new home, in 2013. It always seemed to struggle to open and made a lot of noise when opening or closing. At one point, while construction was still going on in our neighborhood, it managed to move one of the rails and subsequently went off the rail. I was able to flag down one of the garage door installation crews and paid them $50 to fix the door, so I could leave for work. It remained noisy, but at least it was working again. Since that repair, I had to adjust the rails a couple times, just to keep it working. The, on a Sunday, when my daughter had to return to college, the door went off the rails again and wouldn't budge. I did not know how we were going to get her car out so she could leave! I ended up buying a long 2X4 and a crowbar and was able to get the door open enough for her car to be extracted. However, at that point, it was stuck, hanging diagonally, partially open. I'm pretty handy around the house, but one thing I try to avoid working on is garage doors. I used to have the entire Time-Life series on home repair and even it stated that homeowners should avoid working on garage doors (especially the springs), due to the danger of injury. So, I turned to Yelp* to find someone to service our door. Two of the highest rated vendors could not get anyone on site until Monday or Tuesday. But the door was stuck open and we couldn't leave until it was functional again. We just couldn't wait. The next company we called was Garage Door Medics. I spoke with Jeff, their Territory Manager and he said he could be at our house within the hour. Once he arrived, he looked things over and said he didn't have the parts he needed to make the repair and that his suppliers wouldn't be open until Monday morning. I was thinking I would have to sit in the garage all night, as there had been some burglaries in the neighborhood recently. Jeff could see I wasn't excited about the prospect of spending the night in a cold garage, so he said he'd try to fashion something from the parts he had with him to get the door closed and that he'd return the following morning to make the permanent repair. He saved the day! The next morning, he showed up before we'd left for work and finished the repair. He showed me the bearings had gone out in the cheap rollers that came with the door. We had him replace the rollers as well. The door that had always struggled to open noisily, glided up easily and virtually silently!!! He advised us not to put any money into the garage door opener, as the builder had used a cheap model which was more expensive to repair than to buy new. He also mentioned that he'd recommend a different spring configuration, opting for a double spring, rather than the single spring we had. This was recommended, due to the weight of the garage door. He said springs usually last seven years, so there was no rush (ours was 4-1/2 years old) but that we should remember to go with a double spring, when the one we had crapped out. It was obvious that Jeff was more interested in starting a relationship than making a quick additional sale. That was greatly appreciated. In summary, I HIGHLY recommend Garage Door Medics and Jeff Merkel. Ethical, concerned, quick, professional and helpful are the adjectives I'd use to describe both. read more

Asked for a tune-up on a rather new garage door system. Jeff came out and educated me on my system in a way I could easily understand. Builder grade material getting ready to break and he gave me options from "minimum to survive" up to "make it work perfect". He was up front with pricing for each option. I was also impressed that he told me how I could save money if I found a cheaper door opener on my own that he could then install for me. All in all, I found Jeff to be highly reputable and a pleasure to do business with. TERRIBLE and DISHONEST! Stay away from this company. I was quoted wrong on the phone, over charged on site, and unethically recorded my conversation without my knowledge. I recently called for a quote on replacing a broken spring, I was told the total price would be dependent on the price of the spring which would be anywhere between $80-$200. I have an average, run-of-the-mill, 2-door garage so I never imagined I'd be close to the $200 mark. I also mentioned the 50% off labor or 20% off parts coupon they have listed on yelp. I scheduled my appointment for that same day and Trevor arrived within four hours. After looking at my garage and deciding I needed all my rollers replaced, I was given a bill for over $400!! With a little bit of sticker shock I needed to call my father-in-law who has changed these things before. He confirmed my suspicion I was being completely taken advantage of and being over charged for a spring that cost $80. To replace just the spring would have been $288. I asked Trevor about the confusion about the price difference and he immediately became argumentative stating the spring on my door is the heaviest on the market and his company has 5 stars and is top rated (this was repeated several times). I also asked why the spring was over $200 when Bridget (on the phone), stated the springs wouldn't be over $200. Trevor snapped back saying he applied the 20% off parts which made just under $200. At this point I began feeling uncomfortable with Trevor and this situation, so I declined his service and asked him to leave. Trevor then tried to bill me a $99 service charge for simply coming out. I told him I was not paying him because no one made me aware of this fee, nor did I agree to pay this. And to my UTTER surprise, he starts playing my phone call with Bridget on his iPad!!! After awkwardly listening to our entire conversation (and me deciding I needed voice lessons), I, in fact, was not lying and did not owe any money. Clearly irritated, Trevor left only after leaving me with some snide remarks. So with the obviously over priced quote, rudely inappropriate employee, and surprise recorded phone call, I cannot not recommend anyone doing business with this company.
