Garage Door Medics seems to be a previously good company that have changed how they do business. I thought that I had used them before so I did not ask them for a quote before they came out. BIG MISTAKE. They tried to upsell me on a bunch of extra repairs which I declined and their quote for just the spring replacement was double what I thought it should be (almost $800 WITHOUT the upsells! The quote was almost $1200 with them, AND there was another tier ABOVE that that I blacked out with rage before they could even get to what that included!). I paid their consultation fee and declined their quote for work. They even sent me an automated invitation to rate them online despite my obvious dissatisfaction. So here I am! I had San Diego Door Pros Garage Door Company, out the next day and they charged half as much, offered a 5 year warranty, didn't try to upsell me, and even showed me how to do some maintenance to make all the parts last longer. I definitely prefer a company that respects my competence and knowledge (even though I am a WOMAN gasp!) and doesn't try to take advantage. I had a gopher snake slide underneath my garage last Wednesday. Apparently our seal had a large gap and was torn on the corners of both sides; probably overtime from rodents I would assume and just getting old. The wildlife company referred garage door medics to me and I called them right away. They had availability to come within a couple hours which was great! I was super nervous about the snake returning The technician was friendly and gave me about a 20min heads up. I always appreciate how a company treats their customers prior to the service and look for a certain level of professionalism. He assessed the situation and stated he needed to obtain a couple items from their shop and would return in an hour. I forgot to ask for a quote so I called him in the meantime and he quoted me a fair price for that plus fixing a row of hinges that needed to be replaced. He also tuned the garage and I was impressed that it sounds a lot smoother now when opening and closing. That was something I didn't even take much notice of. We called them earlier this year - paid once for a repair, and the second time they convinced us to replace the entire door $$$ so that we would have no more problems. The technician said, "don't worry, this will last 10 years and you won't have to call us again." 3 months later... garage door won't open, automatically OR manually. We called them and asked them to send someone right away. Even though we're *under warranty* for parts... they wanted to still charge us $99 for a service call. And they wouldn't send someone til Monday - when we can't even open it manually to get the car out. (edited to add: we got someone else to help instead in the meantime. I would not recommend unless you are willing to sit by your phone and maybe sit in a lawn chair in front of your garage. They amounted to a no show. I had let the appoint people know I could not be home from work until after 3:30 - 4 and they set the time slot from 3 to 5. I gave them my gate code and that my mother would be on the property in your Granny flat if they came before that time. They called from 800 numbers but because I did not answer while driving they left. When I called back the number takes you to an office and that person claimed they would have the tech come back. When I got to my property about 10-15 minutes later, there were again missed calls. When I called back, I again got the office and they then claim that "dispatch" said the tech had come on the property but know one was home. I spoke to my mom and no one came to her door, the only house that had a car in front of it inside of a gated property where it is obviously part of the same household. In summary, unless you have a stay at home person who is willing to camp by the phone they will make excuses as to why it is your fault that the tech did not show. read more

We have an 8-unit apartment building with a large commercial garage door for entry to the underground parking garage. The bracket for the spring that Garage Door Medic installed a little over a year ago broke. We called them out to replace the spring bracket and after a week of delays, they tried to tell us we needed a new spring, new rollers, and $2,000 worth of labor. They never even addressed the broken bracket. When I told them we needed the bracket replaced they told us it would take 1-2 weeks to order the bracket. I ordered the bracket myself from L.A., installed it myself the next day and it works fine. I had another commercial garage door company inspect the garage and they said Garage Door Medics either never inspected my door, or they were making up an estimate. I also found out they charge almost three times what the parts cost from the supplier. Never again. read more

PRICING tough review but to warn others as it's wrong. First all my fault I'm the one that accepted. Being available same day and the service guy was great. Simply a pricing situation. I wish I had not said yes and just called others for much less. Changed two springs and two cables, PERIOD The exact cables were $30. They charged close to $200 The springs for exact brand etc were combined $250 They charged nearly $700 Even with these huge mark ups they still charged for the $99 service charge. Total bill $900 I have other identical units next to the unit they serviced yesterday. Today I had two companies quote the save work for $4oo-500$ I work super hard for my money and just feel like crap allowing myself to get punked. I also emailed them before I wrote this asking WTF. 1 star. I have used GDM since 2015. I replaced my opener, springs and wheels. I have done a maintenance appointment every 1-2 years. The last time I, the technician spent less than 10 minutes here. I sent an email explaining my dissatisfaction. No reply. I called and spoke to Justin and he said this would be resolved. As of today, no response. EDIT: 4 stars Today I received a phone call from Crystal, a supervisor from GDM, apologizing for the service I received and for not responding to my concerns.
