DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! The first review by Mor B. is laughable because he is indeed the owner (garagedoorss.com). The 2nd review by N.C. is on point as I had an uncannily similar experience. This company is indeed very shady. They screen their phone calls, never get back to you if you have a complaint about the service. They are also not very good at fixing garage doors properly, and they will leave a mess in your garage. The owner is also VERY aggressive.
One torsion spring broke on my garage door. It seemed like a simple fix to me. GDS sent a technician named Meir DaBush. He was polite, but he does not know how to fix garage doors. He came to our house 3 times (!) during the course of the week. Each time he failed to fix the garage door. He tried several different springs, but could not get it to work. Each time he told us something else was wrong and needed to be replaced. At first it was just the springs. Then it was the springs, the pole that holds them, and a spool, which it turns out he broke while trying to take it off (he dishonestly denied this). Then the safety sensors, which worked fine beforehand and are separated from the broken spring by several feet, stopped working. He finally installed 2 new springs. The springs lifted the door, but I was surprised that they were of different sizes. Of course now we had a garage door that did not function properly because the safety sensors were broken. We paid over $600 for the springs, a new spool (which GDS broke), and labor. Meir said he would replace the sensors for $75. He came the next day to replace them, but the sensors he brought did not work. He then said that is was necessary to replace the garage door motor because it was old and it was difficult to find sensors for it. I said no, and he agreed to look for sensors that would work. After days of being nonresponsive, I called another company to fix the sensors. I also lost faith in GDS, so asked the company to evaluate the other work GDS did on the door.
The second company said that just about everything GDS did was wrong, and they were surprised that they could be so uninformed. First, the springs were of the wrong size for the door, and the load was not balanced properly. As installed, the springs were likely to cause damage to the door over time. It also represented a safety hazard. The spool that Meir replaced broke because he hit it with a hammer to remove it from the door. One of the cabled on the spool was wrapped about 10 times too tight. The wires to the sensors that had been on the door were cut. The "new" sensors he put in were actually older pieces of equipment, and the sensors did not even match each other. The charge for the springs was about double what it should have been. The second company also said that almost everything GDS touched should be replaced, and the technician was horrified by the lack of professionalism. They also mentioned that they have gotten calls from other customers who had similar experiences with GDS.
I have since gotten quotes from 2 other companies (3 in total) for fixing the garage. Each has independently provided similar feedback about the work GDS has done, and each has said that GDS has overcharged us by about double for the work. When I complained to Meir, and then to the owner, they each got aggressive and said that everyone else was wrong. They started playing games by not answering my phone calls when I tried to resolve this issue. They should be ashamed of themselves. Do not use this company, as there are plenty of better options in the area! read more
