After recently moving from Cherokee Street to the Shaw neighborhood, the shop has doubled in size, showcasing all white floors, walls, and gorgeous high ceilings. Julia and Brian, the owners of F/A, are extremely knowledgeable in interior design and both mid century and modern goods, and are so helpful when they are present at the shop. Not only does Future Ancestor have beautiful and unique furniture for your home, the shop also boasts sophisticated handmade goods, modern living essentials, and contemporary jewelry and accessories from makers local and afar! They consistently have new pieces come into the shop, and showcase a lot of their finds on their Instagram, @futureancestor, which is bright, vibrant, and represents their brand beautifully. F/A also recently renovated their website, which is a convenient way to see what they have in the shop and purchase things from your own home. They are "busy" just living their best lives (getting their best rest). I had a hard time deciding what I needed so I impulsively shopped for pottery. They have nice shallow pots that are hard to find, which work perfectly for succulents and cacti with shallow roots. I didn't even go out back, upstairs or downstairs. The place keeps going and going! If you get easily overwhelmed when presented with endless choices, you might make a list of what you are looking for before you go in. I knew what plants I need to repot and kept them in mind when I had to make hard decisions. I'd stop in anytime, because looking around this place is just fun.

I like Ikea. It's not usually a quick in & out thing. I go when I want a browsing shopping…read moreexperience. It's a little more self-service than I like. Who wants to pick up and load a sofa? Not I. I bought a new sofa at Ikea late last year. For a small fee (under $40), it was delivered. The restaurant on the third floor was a must-visit, but now food is pricier (everywhere, not just here). Still, maybe it's worthwhile for an old-time experience of sitting sit in a department store eating a warm meal in front of those big windows with views of Midtown and other areas of the city. Room for improvement: I think the store should open a little earlier than 11 a.m. on Sundays.

To our surprise, the opening time has changed to 11 AM. We left and came back at 11. Both of us always enjoy the displays that show you what you can do with specific amounts of square footage. The merchandising team at IKEA are so creative, they make use of every bit of space in their examples. IKEA is a huge store, but you can't get lost. All you gotta do is follow the arrows painted on the floor. They're there from start to finish. They'll lead you through; furniture, accessories, housewares, plants and more. When the arrows lead us through the frames and artwork, we got a giggle that they had copies of the Mona Lisa and Starry Night. My favorite area is the housewares, I can always find something that I need in my kitchen. However, on this visit I found a coat tree for my front foyer in the accent furniture area. It's going to be nice to have something to hand my coat on instead of throwing it on the chair. If you need assistance there's always an associate working nearby. As I shopped, I did notice the prices weren't as low as they use to be, but that is the case almost everywhere. However, it's still a good value.

Chris and his team came for a free design consult and to inventory what I already had, looked at photos of past Christmases, and asked all the right questions to see what is was we wanted for our new look. I wanted something new, but was hoping to use mostly what we already had. He took my ideas and put together a beautiful plan and set a timeline for completion. To my surprise, Chris was able to get started within a week, and even completed the job while we were out of town. We felt completely comfortable having his team in our home unsupervised. They were efficient and cleaned up afterwards. We came home from our trip to a Christmas wonderland that went beyond all our expectations! We couldn't believe the majority of the pieces were things we already had; and was able to reimagine things I had considered "unusable". He even created a theme piece for my ill husband, which brought tears to his eyes, because the piece was so expertly created. I would describe Chris's style as "Elegance with an Edge". He is able to see the potential where it seems there is none and turns it into a thing of beauty. He stayed within budget, and I had no qualms about his team being in my house. I am definitely using his services again next year, and will have him come back to design some interior spaces in our home.

I took a chance and went with Haus Interiors on a recommendation from a friend, and I'm SO glad I did! Chris came by (for free even) to see what I had and what I wanted done, and gave me the option of a whole job price or by the hour. Both worked out to be about the same. Since he mostly used what I already had, I went with the hourly rate. He was able to mostly take the decorations I had and turn them into something I would've never guessed they could be! The whole process was really fast, and the actual work was done in a day. I work from home, and after he arrived (on time, to my surprise!), I left him to do his work. I came out of my office later that afternoon and was astonished at what he was able to do! He had turned my existing "meh - nice try" decor into what I would describe as "classical elegance". Totally worth it, and would definitely use him again. It's taken a lot of holiday stress off of me where I can concentrate on other things.
