Last night I had the opportunity to revisit the Garden Grill after not having gone for quite some time. I absolutely adore the Victorian, quaint ambience of this place. It exudes such warmrh. Over the years, I have found the food to be consistently delicious with no lapse whatsoever. Last night, we started off with delicious calamari. Our server Luis, was very attentive and on top of things. Both my husband and I ordered entrées and I was actually blown away when he asked me what kind of dressing I wanted on my salad. Most people might find this amusing however, I don't remember the last time I went out to eat where a salad with actually included with an entrée. A nice touch from yesteryear. I was also happy to see that what it wasn't iceburg lettuce which I am not a fan of. My husband ordered a wonderful seafood dish, "jewel of the sea" which was served a linguine with an abundance of fresh sautéed spinach. The sea food was delicious and fresh. My salmon was wonderfully prepared with a different spin which was very flavorful. It had cannellini beans, olives, spinach and was cooked to my liking on the rare side. The bread was fresh and delicious to accompany the meal. I have no comments on dessert because I was too full water. We will definitely be returning in the near future. read more

It was so loud that if they were unable to move us upstairs we would have left. Updating my review from April 2018. Nothing has changed much, music is to loud to sit downstairs, friendly owners, food was good but I have to make a few negative comments. First, all the other meals were very good. I ordered the special Veal Chop for $40. Major disappointment. It was 1/2 the thickness of what I've come to expect at a quality restaurant and there was more fat then meat. Had the pleasure of dining at Garden Grill last week with my boyfriend and his aunt (Susan). After a quick tour of the absolutely stunning Victorian decor on the first and second floors, we grabbed a seat at the bar with Chrissy who is wonderful! Susan is a local and said she knew we'd love Garden Grill and she was right! It did not disappoint! Besides having a fantastic time, we enjoyed an incredibly delicious dinner. To start, we had the burrata, crab cakes and the mussels. They were all very good, but the mussels are the best I've ever had. Susan was so pleased to hear, that she called Gloria over, the owner, so I can tell her myself because I said she had to know how wonderful and memorable they were! For dinner, Susan recommended I try the penne alla vodka after mentioning that I was in the mood for pasta that night. Again, another dish that was simple but blew me away. No matter how stuffed I was, I could not stop eating - that's how good it was! Highly recommend Garden Grill and hope to be back next time I'm in town! read more

First of all, this place kind of looks like both of my grandmas threw up in there. The service was fine. The food looked beautiful and was well cooked but not seasoned at all. I had the salmon with pesto and it was just bland and boring. My boyfriend got the angel hair pasta with shrimp and crab meat, and it seemed to be mostly shrimp and butter. Which somehow managed to be also bland and boring. The house chianti was good, though, and reasonably priced. I'd come back for drinks or brunch if I was in the area. Or I'd bring my grandmas. Came here for dinner last night with my boyfriend and his parents. First time any of us have been here. I saw the restaurant was participating for LI Restaurant week so we wanted to try something new. We walked in and you couldn't help but admire the old Victorian house with beautiful fireplaces and antique decorations. The restaurant was very busy but we lucked out and were able to sit in a few minutes. Overall the experience was wonderful. The food was amazing. We went with the restaurant week menu but will definitely return to try the regular menu. We all loved it. The only issue I had was my waiter was a little slow. We waited a good 15 minutes or more before he came over to take our order. It was really busy so it didn't bother me as much. Definitely recommend this place. You won't be disappointed :) read more

We were looking forward to trying this restaurant for the first time! It started out perfectly. The bartender was awesome and the outdoor ambiance was very nice. Thought it would become our new go to place. Anyway, the food was bland and the pretzel was over cooked and came with watery cheese for dipping. The service was awful. We asked for ketchup 2X (never came) and salt and pepper 2X. Once we left, we both had sharp pains in our stomachs and the night is not going well. I was totally amazed at the ambiance. When it comes to a romantic place to eat, in Northern Suffolk, I'd say they have it hands down. It was obvious that they spend lots of time changing the decorations of the restaurant as the holidays change. The staff is like a well oiled machine. It's like they are all one big happy family. We were seated rather quickly. The waitress was understanding when we needed a little more time to place our order. Sometimes when we need more time, it's like we are purposely ignored but that wasn't the case. Even though it was a rather busy night for them, we weren't rushed out in the least. My daughter and I ate here on a Friday night, and agreed to share 2 dishes. We ordered penne ala vodka, and the grilled marinated ribeye steak. Both dishes came with a garden salad that was fresh, topped with croutons and a cup of your choice of dressing (we both opted for blue cheese). We both enjoy fresh ground pepper on our salads, and as soon as the salads hit the table, the waiter was right there with a huge pepper mill. This may not seem like a big deal to most diners, but it's something I expect, and don't want to have to request. Well done. The penne was delicious, and full of flavor, but not drowning in sauce. We had it plain, but you can also add shrimp or chicken. Again, shortly after the dish hit the table, the waiter was back with a cheese grater. The ribeye was phenomenal. Not only cooked to perfection, but the presentation with onion rings and potatoes was a thing of beauty, surpassed only by the great taste and tenderness of the steak itself. This dish alone would be enough to make me come back. We also shared a side of sautéed mushrooms and onions, that was tasty and complemented both entrées. Dessert? Yes, please. There were so many great choices, but we opted for the tartufo, split into 4 equal portions of chocolate and vanilla ice cream, with a crunchy chocolate shell and generously topped with whipped cream. I visited the restaurant this past weekend. I can say it was OK. The menu look very good which made it hard to decide what to order. We ordered the asparagus prime rib tips and the artichoke appetizer. Both options were good but neither was something I would have to order again. The entree I had was the broiled seafood platter and my wife had the stuffed duck. Again both were OK, but nothing to remember. Went in for brunch today. $112.00 for a very disappointing brunch for 4 people. Poor selection and the food was cold and hadn't been freshened up in a while. Mimosa tasted like iced OJ. Service was fine and the waiter offered to bring something fresh from the kitchen but we had already finished our meal. The manager was showing the place to some catering customers when he should have been paying more attention to what the buffet looked like. Can't say enough good things about Garden Grill. I enjoyed everything they served. The French Onion Soup was delicious, not overpoweringly salty with just a perfect hint of sweetness. Salad was garden fresh and I could have had that as my main course it was that good. I ordered the Veal & Shrimp Involtini and I cleaned the plate. Just amazing. Veal was lightly breaded and the mushroom sauce just a great accent to the flavors of the dish. Atmosphere and decor beautiful. My one criticism is that they could get better beers on tap. ie: a Brooklyn Lager or something from Southhampton (Keller Pils) Corona is never a good option anywhere. So last year I wanted to take my Mom to the Garden Grill for her 80th as thats where she wanted to go. I called 3 weeks before to make a reservation and ask for a table downstairs to save my Mom from going upstairs as well as myself as it was a week before my spinal surgery and I couldn't walk or stand well for any length of time. I also called the day before to ensure that we were good on the table and time and emphasized that it was her 80th. They reassured me all was good. When we got there at our time there was no table available downstairs and they said they could seat us upstairs. i politely declined and said we'd wait for the next table downstairs. 45 min later we were still waiting - I asked the hostess if I could speak with the manager as I had worked so hard to make sure this exact thing didn't happen. He stomped over ( he is a big imposing man) and again offered the upstairs, I started to explain about the reservation, moms birthday and difficulties going upstairs. He cut me off and yelled in my face that there was nothing they could do until people left the tables. I was so shocked disgusted. My mom finally said lets take the table upstairs as she was disgusted too. It was a random room upstairs off the main that wasn't even set. We had dinner and he didn't even apologize for the wait, the reservation or his nastiness and didn't even send an 80th birthday dessert or anything off bill. We live in area and really enjoyed eating there when it opened, with the original food and owner. Sad- as the food is fair now but redone outdoors is nice in summer. Went on a Saturday night. Had a reservation for 2 at 7pm. They put us at the only table that was for 2 people. Very small against the wall next to the bathroom. Had only 2 other tables with people at them. Of course asked to sit somewhere else. Felt bad asking but was there 2 hours and still had plenty of tables available. The waiter was not the best. Dinner took a long time. I wasn't complaining. I had a martini so I was happy but when he served the food he made a comment that "sorry it took so long I practically had to beg for it" if he didn't say that I would have just assumed they take this long on purpose. Was exited to enjoy the Octoberfest and the the supposedly German music on October 10th only to find Chaos and the worst and overpriced food I have ever had. The pot pie I send back because the vegetables were uncooked and the broth like water. The mussels were in a water broth with no flavor and I'm guessing they were old because I have never had them where the shell separated and split. The staff were not in a specific uniform. Some wore undershirts' and I witnessed them taking all the liquid left from a customers glass and dumping it into the planter next to the table. Not only that but one of the staff actually dumped some of a customers water from their glass to clean the table .OMG! I don't know how they are still in business. Came here last night with our kids.. what a special night! It was Oktoberfest and I'm so glad we decided to come. We felt like we were on vacation, the staff was incredibly friendly and seemed genuinely happy to have our business. The jumbo Bavarian pretzel was mouth watering! Dining outdoors always feels like a treat.. the heaters, lighting and live music created the perfect vibe. I saw reviews complaining about long wait times but we were saying how refreshing it was to not be rushed and just enjoyed the night with our kids. At that point we left. So I wanted to try again this Sunday. Well we waited 30 minutes before we were asked if we wanted anything to drink---seated at our table---after 45 minutes we still did not have our drinks or had been asked our order. NEVER AGAIN. Honestly can't review the food because the last 2 times we never got that far. To say the service is poor is an understatement. Just had our Thanksgiving meal at the Garden Grill. Extremely disappointed!!! We were seated on an outdoor terrace with what looked like lawn furniture. Not very cozy and it was freezing. When the heater came on, it was so loud that you could not have a conversation with the people at your table. We waited an hour (!!!!) between the first course and the main meal. The salad was skimpy at best (a few limp leaves of lettuce, shredded carrots and 3 mini tomatoes), our main courses were o.k., nothing to rave about. The turkey looked like a hot open turkey sandwich, no garnish, just the meat drenched in gravy. The sides were way too many carbs, especially since the steak already came with mashed potatoes. The only vegetable was creamed corn. The dessert was not made to look appetizing either, but most disappointing was the fact that they would serve parts of it in plastic bowls. Not what we would expect at $60.00 per person. We have eaten there many times before and were always very pleased. However, this experience makes us not want to go back there again. read more

This restaurant is top notch. Beautiful and elegant atmosphere, most of the staff very accommodating and the food is exquisite.. Definitely a place you would want to dine at for a special event, special occasion, or to wine and dine that "special" someone. I would love to give this place 5 stars but I was here recently for a celebration of about 50 guests and there were some things lacking. First and foremost we sat upstairs that was such a beautifully decorated room/attic for a private event, but it was SO stuffy and hot. Mostly all of the guests were complaining about it, and the staff apparently kept putting the air conditioner cooler. Was it broken (which was never admitted nor apologized if that was the case) ? Or is that how it usually gets up there when there's a room full of guests? - so I would recommend not planning a party upstairs in June. Next thing.. For a planned, private event not all of the staff were "on top" of guests drinks and tables that needed service. Looking around everyone was working but perhaps they were short handed? I'm not sure what the problem was. At the very beginning of the event they had given out bread baskets to each table that sat about 6 people with probably 7-8 pieces of bread. Over two hours went by (with no refills) until we were served the 1st course - penne alla vodka. Once that was served everything came in a more timely matter (2nd course, salad. 3rd course, main entrée-- choose between Eggplant Rollatini, Tilapia Florentine, Chicken Francese and Filet Mignon). However, after dinner the staff came around with coffees to have with the cake ..that should have been served with the coffee-- but the cake wasn't served until a half hour later. I wasn't too happy with the room being so stuffy and the lack of service---but I would really like to give this place the benefit of the doubt because when the staff did come by, they were very sweet and accommodating. The food is absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is elegant and gorgeous. So with all of that being said, this place is worth a try. Maybe they had an "off" day. So all in all, definitely would recommend but with some minor cautions. read more

I came here last month for my office Holiday party and everyone had a great time. We had a big room upstairs with a fireplace. Unfortunately the office had to split into two because they gave us two tables that were situated into an L-shape so not everyone was able to socialize (I socialize with these people 5 days a week but it would have been nice to get to know their significant others a bit better) but that's the best they could have done with the size of the room. The decor is very old school, like walking into an old home (but without the old smell). It was very cozy and comfortable. The staff was attentive and pleasant. The food was wonderful. The wine was delicious. Everyone had a nice time. I had the steak and although it wasn't cooked perfectly, it still had a great taste. Also, beware of the parking lot. It was packed out and I was just able to find a spot in front of the restaurant. I'm not sure if it's always that crowded on the weekends or if the holidays contributed to the overpopulation of cars in their lot but it was definitely tight.
