They did not notify myself or my brother in writing and only informed my brother on 7/9 the day before the transfer took place on 7/10. I had to request the transfer notice from the ombudsman and the notice stated the transfer request was due to family request which is fabrication on their part. I have since filed a complaint with the CDPH and in the process of relocating him to a facility with Vietnamese speaking staff as he does not speak much English and they transferred him to a facility that does not have Vietnamese staff. In addition, this transfer occurred exactly 1 month after raising concerns with the ombudsman about patterns of neglect and their failure to prioritize and respond to my god dads' call light on multiple occasions when he needed breathing treatment/assistance. Do not leave your loved one here as you can see they will retaliate and find a way to get rid of residents/patients while family are left misinformed.

The staff there was very attentive and addressed all needs. We lived up north and never worried about our family member's care. We were extremely happy and felt they treated us like family. When you are looking for a home for your loved ones who are elderly or sick you need to know that they will be safe and well taken care of. For me, Lotus Senior Care was the best decision I've ever made. I've waited a while to write this review to make sure my head is clearer for an accurate review -…read moreMy family relied heavily on true reviews of the Kindreds when transferring my father to one, so I'd like to provide information to other families who may benefit. TL;DR: Kindred is bad, outdated, doesn't share information, has no online portal or easy way to get medical information, hard, if not impossible, to talk to doctors, and is the only option for LTACHs in OC. Of the Kindreds in OC, this one is still the "best." There are a few decent people (palliative care team, patient advocate, and the ICU), but they're limited by the system and other issues, and you still have to be present almost at all hours to make sure your loved one is taken care of. An LTACH is a step down from the hospital in terms of care, so you need to step-up to be an advocate. Long: The building and systems are old. You can't get medical records/test results/doctor notes/chart updates unless you go to the medical records office, fill out a form, and go in and ask for paper copies daily (which we did). The doctors are not available, the nurses don't share anything ("the doctor will tell you that"), and admin can only do so much. Maybe you'll have a case worker that actually does something or talks to you, but the patient advocate was helpful at least and always made time. As far as care goes - the ICU area had better nurse to patient ratios and was really quite good. Outside of the ICU, it was more dismal. The nurses don't really care - most are just doing the bare minimum. There are a few good ones in there - you can request them if you want (do that). It takes ages to get a response after hitting the call button. My dad wasn't repositioned often unless he needed new dressings or linens. PT/OT only worked with him when we were there, otherwise they'd claim he was asleep or not receptive to working. Speech therapy came some but it wasn't until one fantastic lady came and really helped clear out my dad's mouth. You need to be there all the time to hold them accountable and make sure things are done. You can get extended hours approved too, which is worthwhile. Kindred works their employees hard, but the staff still need to understand that their patients are in critical condition, in long-term care, need compassion and good care, and are needing to recover. The doctors are all listed on the patient whiteboards, but they're never there during visiting hours (it sure felt like this was done on purpose to avoid interaction with family members. We asked many, many times to talk to doctors. If you are the squeaky wheel, though, you may get lucky - pester and then pester more. That's the only way we were able to talk to doctors. Though some of their bedside manners could be better. Make sure to ask who the doctors/nurses/therapists are when they come in as they don't often do introductions. The palliative care team was really quite good - respectful, listened, and compassionate. They really helped us understand what was going on and helped us get the information we wanted and needed. When we were there, Kindred had just started a new hospice contract with Compassionate Health Hospice. It was horrible. They messed up everything they could from showing up 90min after their set time to messing up the medication order. And not even apologizing or being respectful.

It wasn't a miscommunication problem. Your girl, I came in contact with needs training. She is the first person the public comes in contact with. I don't remember her name but I remember her attitude. I ask specifically if you did labs and testing her answer was NO we send it to a third party. Unfortunately, what they lack ends up a longer list. The first MA was unable to get a vial of blood and said someone else would try on my other arm with a straight needed (vs butterfly). She left me without even putting a bandaid on the arm she poked and I had to struggle to put the bandaid on one handed while still maintaining pressure on it. Next MA comes and draws blood and when she's done she yelps I don't have a cotton ball (to put on the vein she just drew out of) and my blood is just pooling while she puts a bandaid on. Luckily I'm well versed enough to know I needed to put pressure on my bandaid. The NP who saw me was new to (per the MA) she really didn't put my mind at ease. Her expertise and knowledge seemed lacking based on the answers to my questions. First thing she asked me was, why are you here and not the ER? I told her my PCP sent me here because she didn't feel it necessitated a ER visit. She wanted me to be evaluated by YOU to assess and in your medical opinion, do I need to be seen further or what course of action next? She swabbed me for flu and covid and I verbally questioned her because I had isolated severe GI symptoms. She said sometimes those present wither GI only. Does it? I don't know, I'm not an MD but I'm also someone who works in healthcare and it didn't feel like the proper procedure. When I asked if she would be ordering any stool samples, I heard through my closed door "do we do that?". Ok, she's new, I'll give her that...but she comes back in and says "if you'd like to have the order for stool testing I'm happy to give that to you." Am I the md or am I the patient? I came here for your professional medical opinion! Do I?! So after I kindly communicated that I am looking to her for her opinion as the expert whether or not my symptoms necessitate an order, she still doesn't quite give me a direct answer! I haven't been to that many urgent cares, but I've come to see a trend that many of the urgent cares that are owned by a company with multiple locations don't have MD's on staff physically there. That said, I've also noticed the trend that many provide sub-par care.

He explained what was going on, what to expect and what I was doing that could make things worse. They gave me a steroid pill right there in the office - no need to go to the pharmacy! And they observed me after I took the pills to make sure I didn't have a reaction. It was actually a good thing that Exer didn't work out!

It made me wonder would she treat a non-minority the same way she treated me. I understand they have their own limitations, but to be treated so nonchalantly with lack of compassion is the upsetting part. Are bedside manners nonexistent now? I understand people have their off days, but this was completely unacceptable. Maybe consider another field if helping people doesn't bring you any sense of fulfillment. I will be reaching out to speak with a manager if possible.

Do not send your family members here if you love them!! Staff members were openly yelling at patients, including elderly residents, for needing to use the bathroom or for having accidents. No patient should ever be made to feel ashamed or afraid for basic human needs like urinating. Instead of showing compassion, patience, and dignity, some staff were harsh, dismissive, and humiliating toward vulnerable residents. A healthcare facility should provide safe, respectful, and humane care, especially for people who may already feel vulnerable or dependent on others. Watching patients get scolded for something they often cannot control was upsetting and unacceptable. I would not recommend this facility to anyone looking for compassionate care for their loved ones. read more

My family and I went for a tour and it was one of the worst things I did in life, yes THAT BAD. The empolyees at this location were very RUDE and also have no manners. They all can speak English but chose to speak Filipino instead. We got a chance to speak to a few patients staying there, even they said, STAY AWAY. That diffinately raised a few flags. They even said a few things that makes me even go report to the board if there is such department within our government system. NOT RECCOMENDED..... They even got my (very cranky!) father to participate in PT and activities--and somehow won him over. My father said they clean and put new clothes on him everyday. DO NOT LET YOUR LOVED ONES STAY HERE!…read more The nurses are NEGLIGENT, my Grandma, who unfortunately passed away in this nursing home due to their negligence, was screaming out in pain for a WHOLE HOUR before my mother came to drop off food. When my mother came by she had to yell at the people in the front desk to tend to my Grandma. Why did it have to take a person to yell at them to tend to an elder who is literally screaming out in pain so loud you could hear her as you walk into the building? The nurses came to tend to her gave her some kind of strong pain killer after getting approval from a doctor they were talking to and measured her oxygen and said she was fine and kept insisting she was, my mom told the nurse to call for an ambulance multiple times and the nurse kept telling her they did. Ambulances DID NOT ARRIVE UNTIL 15-20 MINUTES LATER. Garden Grove Hospital is THREE minutes away from the care center, UCI Medical Center is FIVE MINUTES away from this care center. They absolutely did not call the ambulance until it WAS TOO LATE, my Grandma had fainted and probably when she passed away and thats when they measured her oxygen and couldn't get a reading and started panicking, when the paramedics arrived they had to start her heart up again and take her to the hospital where the doctor had told my mother she was long gone and she had not received oxygen for FORTY MINUTES. It is absolutely disgusting and terrible how these nurses do NOT care at all this care center should be investigated. If you have loved ones that you love and care about DO NOT send them here, if anything were to happen to them YOU CAN NOT expect the "nurses" here to do anything to help, they will brush your elders off and ignore them. this is disgusting and disgraceful behavior from so called nurses and they should absolutely be ashamed of themselves. Imagine if my mother never came by, those people would've NEVER tended to my Grandma, imagine if it was your loved one and you come to visit to find out they had already passed in their bed because nobody would check in with them or care for them.

It also wouldn't hurt to brush up on bedside manners. Chapman Care Center is seriously lacking empathy. There is NEVER parking, because the lazy staff parks in visitor parking and not their own. The dated entire facility has a smelly permanent stench, so bad you can smell it just walking up to the front door. The staff does not greet upon entry because they're too busy on their cell phones. You can literally hear patients screaming in pain and nobody's doing anything to help. I would seriously reconsider sending my loved one to Chapman Care Center.
