We recently had our wedding at the Garden Terrace West on Oct. 20th. 2007 Our experience was wondeful. All of the wait staff was professional, fast and polite. In particular our coordinator Joanne was wonderful. She was on top of things and actually took the time to go from table to table and ask if everything was ok. She was also great at answering all my questions during the entire planning process. Overall, it was exactly what we hoped for and everyone loved the experience. We were told many times that the venue was "unique and comfortable" , one of my relatives expressed interest in renting the same venue for a Sweet 15 party. Holy crap! This place sucks!!! Was there for a family wedding! The ceiling was leaking in like 3 different spots on guests sitting at dinner! They put a ripped table cloth on a table! DISGUSTING! Let me start by saying, the roof leaks and they don't bother to call you or do ANYTHING about it, and offer no solution when you arrive with your wedding guests!!! My guests had dirty roof water dripping on them and their tables! Joannes solution, call the owner Walter... guess who never called me back?!? My first warning sign should have been that they have too many coordinators, 1, promises something and then the other says oh, too bad that's not in the contract! So, advice MAKE THEM WRITE IT ALL DOWN & TAKE A COPY, because they LOSE stuff! At tasting, roast beef was full slices. Day of, bits and tiny pieces were served. Terrible, embarrassing! Service was AWFUL!!! Couldn't even get water! Other problems that occurred during the course of my event were not handled properly, Joanne who's been there 40 years speaks condescendingly but puts a hand on you, so all better.... NO!!! Handle things do it in a timely fashion. Be helpful not hurtful on the most important day of my sons life. Details of the situation don't matter, bottom line extra stress was added to my day, reception was delayed. I'm completely disappointed and my guests could see that, all I was asked for was a good review during the planning I was looking forward to doing that... but unfortunately for me, I can't! read more

We used them a couple months ago for our wedding reception and found them to be easy to work with. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable, and pretty accomodating. Up front about charges, too, and helped us find less expensive ways of doing things. Food was excellent--we got the buffet option with incentives (came with bar, cake, chair covers). No problem setting up music--except when one server unplugged the music to plug in the coffee station. They also set up our table decor according to our written instructions. The eastern hall has a little sweetheart garden with a bridge that is perfect for pictures, but staff has to open it--there's no wandering in and out. Thought I smelled a musty odor when I went in earlier times, but certainly was not in evidence the day of the party. Plenty of compliments on appearance--the look of a garden with vine covered trellises, fairy lights, etc. Would use them again--as would my nephew if he marries a Chicago girl (he's already decided this, and he's 9!). read more

My grandson's wedding was held there last week, the place had a musty smell, the roof leaked on guest at the wedding, the food was served lukewarm and very mediocre in taste, the wait staff were not friendly and had to be asked for more water, the men's room was not the cleanest. The venue that we chose was the garden terrace east. It was perfection. I have included a few more photos and a few photos of the outdoor garden area (bummed that it is only for photos and people cannot hang out back there, but it was ok. It the most ideal place. I loved it. We were married in September and we still talk about and as our guests. It is a very special place with ambiance. At the garden terrace east there are two rooms to choose from a very large room and a smaller room. We didn't invite that many so 100 people fit perfecty and comfortably without being crowded at all. We did not want a large venue where we would only fill half the tables and look like people who have no friends. We wanted it to feel like a special intimate gathering and still feel special and decorated. We barely added decorations because the venue itself is kind of magical. It helped us choose our theme. I highly highly highly recommend. We also chose to get our catering through Saranecki brothers (they work for/under Garden Terrace. All the photos at they display must be from the 70s. The photos were the biggest disappointment. UPDATE THEM!!!! However, That being said, every single dish we chose was beyond delicious! I am looking through my phone to see if I can add photos. Everything they made was flavorful and beautiful! This was the best experience. I could not have asked for a more magical day. I will add pictures of the venue empty. Pictures with our party there so you can see what it looks like with people and hopefully I can find pictures of the food to add. Buy the way I still dream about that fried chicken. my god that fried chicken was some of the best i have ever eaten in my life. I know they are listed as 3 stars, but they deserve 6! that's right. more than 5, because they were that worth it! Thank you for making my day so perfect. We will never forget it! We had a bad experiencing in the first consultation looking for a wedding venue. The representative was 15 minutes late to our appointment, he excused himself saying he had just come from his other job (wearing construction clothes), he did not greet us, and he was flipping pages on the binder when we asked for a quote. He wrote the price quote on a napkin. The place was not bad, although it had a musty carpet smell. Overall, the bad customer service killed it all. read more

We were looking for a place to host our small wedding. This place charged high rental fee PLUS catering services (on top of other fee like chair covers, etc. that are not included). You have to pay for BOTH. We found many other places that charges one or the other, not both. Nice place though- good for people who wouldn't mind paying for both. read more

We celebrated my sons wedding on 3/26/16. The outside is pretty unassuming, but one inside it is very quaint. They need to update a bit in the bar area and bathrooms but the place is very well maintained. The staff were excellent , especially Joanne. Anything we needed, she took care of immediately. We chose this venue for our daughters wedding after attending a wedding here 12 years ago. I wished I had remembered how bad the customer service was. Joanne who has been there for 40 years as she stated every time we dropped a payment or for rehearsal, is very rude and demeaning in her choice of words when conversing with the customers. We finally arrived for our daughters big day only to notice that the ceiling was leaking in several different places. We used the venue for the ceremony and as the wedding party did the precession down the aisle we were all dripped on including the bride. While sitting down for dinner our guests were being dropped on also. Instead of feeling sympathetic of the issue she stated that it wasn't leaking on the tables. I asked Joanne why she hadn't let us know before the time of our event and her words were, "we didn't want to upset you." Instead they waited until we arrived for the wedding with all our guests. At that point we weren't only upset but also embarrassed! There was such a musty smell in the room that I could only attribute to the carpet being wet. We weren't served dinner until 8:30 and Joanne said the reason was because the food wasn't ready, when dinner was supposed to be at 7:30. The food was terrible. The chicken was dry and over cooked and the rice was very sticky. Joanne had it in her mind that she was the wedding planner in my opinion because she was constantly telling us what we should be doing. My brother who's wedding I attended 12 years ago seen my frustration with Joanne and stated she was the same woman that made his wife cry at their wedding. She was judgmental to the couples ages and stated that the marriage wouldn't last. I let him know she was very judgmental to my daughter and her husbands ages as well. I believe this venue should do a complete overhaul with staff and maybe remodel. In my opinion, I believe Joanne's 40 years running this venue should come to and end if they hope to book more events here. Attended a wedding reception there and was surprise at the condition this venue was in. The Marines that were sitting at my table started complaining that their uniforms were getting wet from the ceiling leaking on them. We complained to the maitre d who basically said she couldn't do anything and that we should call the owner and complain or try to find another place to sit. Well there was no where else to go so we decided to move the table over. The lady's restroom was disgusting. Guest waited forever for the rolls, bread and butter. Service was lack luster! Servers had poor attitudes, got feeling they would rather be working elsewhere. There was no water pitcher at the table, poor service, food was cold and tasteless! BBQ chicken was burned and rice was overcooked! Pretty sure the family that threw this event did not get the bang for the buck! Probably financially raped. I recently held my wedding celebration at their Irving Park location. At the beginning of the planning process everyone seemed so nice and everything seemed very clear! However, just a few weeks before the wedding EVERYTHING started to go wrong with them!!! When I went to make my last payment with Joan she told me that the menu I had chosen about a month ago had extra charges which were never explained to me and that I had to change all of my menu because some options were not even suppose to be offered to me . She said that the lady at their Armitage location which had helped me choose the menu was a beginner and that she had given me the wrong options. She never apologized for the confusion! Just a few days before my event she said that the cake could be dropped off as early as 3pm and the day before the wedding I figured I will confirm with her just in case, Joan said that she had given the wrong info again and that the cake could not be dropped off until 5pm. Once again she never apologized for giving me the wrong info. Luckily the lady that I hired to make my cake was nice enough to accommodate last minute changes. The day of the wedding was another day filled with mistakes and last minute surprises by her and the staff there. The night before I instructed her to light up the candles that I placed in the tables before the guest arrived. She said that was not a problem and that she will take care of it. When I arrived there was not one candle on. When my maid of honor questioned her about that she completely ignored the question. When the bridal party and I arrived at no point did her or any of of her staff greeted us. The dinner part was the worst!!! Our guests were served hot water and at no point was ice offered. It was explained to me that we will have soda during the dinner time and no one was served soda. When we questioned Joan about that she rudely responded that I had chosen to have wine not soda during the dinner time. However, I was never made aware that I had to choose between wine and soda for the dinner time. She did not apologize for the confusions on their part.Then my maid of honor noticed that food was running out in the tables so she instructed Joan to tell the servers to take more food to the tables. To this Joan once again RUDELY responded that she was not going to do that because if my guests wanted more food they had to say so!! And so my maid of honor had to leave her dinner to tell each table that servers were not going to give them more food unless they asked for it because they will not obey me!!.... When it was time to cut the cake, they made yet more mistakes!!!..... I was charged a cake cutting fee because i did not like any of the cake options they provided me with, which was no problem for me. My husband and I took the typical cake cutting picture and then were puzzled and pretty unhappy that there was not one server nearby to cut the cake. When it was finally cut by them they did not even serve it to my guests. They simply put in baggies over by the door without making me or my guests aware of where was the cake. This place is beyond unprofessional!! Later during the dancing time. I saw an unfamiliar face in the dance floor, I realized that Joan had stepped in for the bartender so that he could have him some fun in the dance floor with my guests! Joan closed the bar without even making anyone aware that the bar was getting ready to close. Nevertheless, I had a great time at my wedding but it did take a lot of patience to work with these people. I will NEVER recommend this venue to anyone!!! read more
