Still love this place. Came here again for the Christmas vibes 2 days before Christmas to get some work done. I needed to bribe myself with coffee I didn't make myself and to get out of my house to plow through a bunch of work admin. I took a chance coming here because I know they have some laptop policies, particularly around Christmas. This time it was no laptops after 9am and then none on Friday and weekends during the holiday season. (During the rest of the year it's certain tables that aren't allowed to use laptops and/or certain tables at certain hours). I came in at 7am and it was good motivation for me to knock out a bunch of things efficiently since I have a 9am cutoff lol. They also now put that notice on their front door, which is helpful and was my complaint last year when I came here to do work on a Saturday and found out I couldn't. As always, the coffee was great, and the Home Alone installation is always fun. Their tartines are also always amazing. Definitely keeping this in my regular rotation. read more

Stopped into Towne & Oak with my son after his doctor's appointment for a quick bite and it was so good. First time there and definitely won't be our last. My son got the croissant egg and bacon breakfast sandwich and loved it. I got the yogurt and granola. Both were super fresh and delicious, just wish there was a little less honey on mine because it was a bit heavy for me. I also ordered an almond milk cappuccino and it was SO good. We were there around munch time, and it was moderately busy for that time of day. They brought out the food quickly. Was super cute inside and gave off costal vibes. Visiting family again in Wilmette! We returned to Towne and Oak. Of course, I got the biscuit again - it was every bit as good as the last time I was here! I brought my own honey to drizzle on it! Next, I thought I'd try the pancakes. They were okay - light but not so fluffy. I'm used to a fluffier pancake - I make them regularly at home. We shared the tomatoes & burrata (added prosciutto), miso-glazed salmon bowl (I added egg and avocado), and the breakfast sandwich (highly recommend swapping the biscuit for a croissant). Sorry, not sorry, but Towne & Oak, it's you, not me. I do want to note that the ambiance of this place is great - it is bright and spacious, and there typically is enough seating. However, the items they serve are so ill-prepared while being super overpriced. Their drinks are consistently watered down and always served lukewarm, even when it's been requested, multiple times, to have them be extra hot. When we bring it up to the staff, they respond that that is how they make and serve their drinks; they really couldn't care less. The pastries are always dried out, no matter what time of day you go, even in the mornings! And, the cookies, while tasty, are always cold, and there isn't an option to warm these up. There's plenty of staff lingering around, but they don't maintain the space, never wiping down the tables for incoming patrons as it's always filthy and sticky, especially if children were part of the previous party. A lovely restaurant and a very good place for breakfast/brunch, but the acoustics here make it unexpectedly loud and difficult to have a casual conversation. We came here on a mid-Saturday morning and were pleased to discover that it wasn't too crowded at all. Even better, they apparently only serve pancakes on the weekends so we came on the right day. After considering the menu we went to the counter and placed our order, strongly considering whether to try one of their beautiful pastries in the display case. Buttermilk pancakes - I have high expectations of any pancake, because I make some killer pancakes myself. These were, in fact, very nice. Light and airy, which is important so that it soaks up the copious amounts of butter and syrup that we added. No complaints here; these were quite excellent pancakes French omelet - I loved how light and fluffy the egg was; I've tried to accomplish the same texture at home but haven't figured out the secret yet. The filling was goat cheese that was smooth and not too salty, and the whole thing was topped with a few snap peas and an herb salad which provided a nice crisp bite. Applewood smoked bacon - this, sadly, was a bit of a miss. Four small pieces of bacon that had a nice flavor, but was just a little overcooked and dry. Still, it was a good counterpoint to the sweetness of the pancakes. Prices here are good - TBH I expected to pay a lot more in Winnetka, but in fact it was less expensive than the breakfast places that I go to back in the SF Bay area. The cafe is naturally lit with a high atrium-style ceiling, but this also leads to unfavorable acoustics. We sat in the middle of the restaurant, but the laughter of a table all the way by the entrance echoed throughout the entire place. Nonetheless, this a fine breakfast experience and deserving of a return visit someday. read more

Lovely little restaurant in Winnetka that serves breakfast, brunch & lunch. They are in the Hubbard Woods area. The outdoor seating is limited to a small strip in front of the sidewalk, but the area is always hopping and lovely on a nice day. The indoors is inside an old building and it's tall, bright and airy. They also have a space that can be used for events. They have many pastry and food choices. I mainly come for the Chai Latte, which is one of my most favorites. As with most places in today's world, it's not inexpensive, but if you are treating yourself, or spending time with friends and family, Towne & Oak feel like a treat. read more

Wonderful spot for lunch!!! We had a group of 5, with 2 guests from overseas. EVERYONE cleaned their plate and absolutely loved their food. Everyone who ordered salmon said it was cooked perfectly. I tried the classic breakfast- 2 eggs, maple bacon, biscuit with butter, jam, and a cappuccino. Not the best cappuccino, but the eggs were done perfectly over easy. The biscuit was really good - one of the best I've had. Maple bacon was ok, but it's thick cut and not crispy at all. I prefer crispy. For me "Sandwich Royalty" are a Tuna Salad, Chicken Salad, Egg Salad and Turkey Salad sandwich. I've never had a bad one and usually (only) have very good ones. But, the "Crowned Head " of them all is my coveted BLT. This one sandwich is The Head of State with no second place even close! My all time best ever BLT was last summer in Santa Ynez, CA at Roblar Vineyards. It defined the complete interpretation of what a BLT could and should be. After consuming that "beauty" I gave up ever trying to substitute anything close to Roblar's approach to this sandwich. But, today at Towne and Oak in Winnetka, just north of Chicago, I came as close as I'll ever get to Roblar's gem. Their BLT Tartine with applewood smoked bacon, vine ripened tomatoes, romaine lettuce, herb aioli and avocado was magnificent with a dash of brilliance added. This open faced delicacy was so good that I'm putting it in the same league as Roblar's; and that's pretty heady company. This breakfast / lunch restaurant is as cute as it is pristine. I can see why it was so crowded at 1:00 on a Monday. My wife and her friend had their Macro Grain Bowl with Mediterranean crispy chickpeas, quinoa-tabbouleh salad, avocado, lemon-tahini dressing , and chicken. They both loved what they ordered. As a gal who's used to being on the go, I'm always on the hunt for a great coffee shop that I can enjoy and unwind. Town and Oak was the perfect place for that! My husband and I were walking around in the rain and decided to stop by for something to warm up: I had the Lavender London Fog which was absolutely amazing! The flavors of the lavender really came out in the tea! We also decided to share the Honey Crisp Apple Salad. It was so yummy! When reading pickled grapes, as someone who is not a huge fan of pickled items- we asked for them to be on the side and I gave it the good ole try. They turned out to be super sweet and we're absolutely a staple to the salad. From the creamy cheese, to the sweet grapes, and crisp apples, each bite was the perfect concoction of flavors. This is my favorite breakfast spot in wilmette. I got the breakfast sandwhich on the homemade biscuit. It's incredible. You can really taste that the biscuit is homemade and the bacon is out of this world. It's a bit on the pricey side but you can expect that from the area. I really like the atmosphere and tend to come here for coffee when I meet a friend. That's better than for lunch. Today I ordered the BLT for lunch with a friend and it was honestly awful. It was toasted bread with a slight smear of avocado then a couple lettuce leaves and poorly cut, somewhat smushed three little slices of tomatoes and a couple strips of bacon. Everything fell off the bread on first bite and it was like a sandwich made by a kindergartner. For $15 I expect better than this. If I'm gonna buy overpriced food I at least want to feel slightly lavished upon. So back to coffee in the AM as lunch was a terrible disappointment. read more

They have only been open a week and I've been 3 times...so I guess you could say I"m a fan! I want to try so many things on their menu, but their yogurt granola bowl is sooo yummy that I keep ordering it. However, my husband and son have branched out with avocado toast and egg/cheese/bacon sandwich and gave them both two thumbs up (or 5 stars in Yelp language). The space is absolutely beautiful and I'm dreaming of the day where I can enjoy coffee with friends, family or myself inside safely. They do have a few tables outside, which works on this seasonably warm November week...but it will soon be too cold for those. Fortunately, it's easy to place an order thru their website and they place all pick up orders right by the front door. I've never had to wait more than a few minutes for my order. They told me they also have a space in the back where they can host cocktail parties up to 150 people, but for now are limited to smaller events of 25 during the pandemic. I haven't seen the actual space, but if it's half as gorgeous as the actual cafe I know I'll want to plan a party there when it's safe to do so. Chai latte - delicious Greek yogurt & granola bowl - delicious (my son wants me to go back and grab another - he especially liked the honeycomb) Homemade biscuit - buttery and flaky (my son wanted me to go back and buy him a few more) I can't wait to go back and order their breakfast sandwich and salads. Let me start by saying that I love the food and the ambiance. The coffee should be a lot better for a place like this however, it's about average. Also their Spirit Airlines inspired pricing is a little annoying. $2 for toast and 50c extra if you want butter, and god knows what for jam! had a late lunch here with friends for the first time. i ordered the mediterranean salad sans cheese, my friend had the butternut squash 'tartine' and her husband had the chopped salad. we ate at the island; it was fairly busy @2pm. i guess when we walked in, and this was our first time, it wasn't that clear cut--do we look for a host to seat us? do we seat ourselves? no, and yes. you place your order at the counter, get a number, find a seat and your food is brought to you. if the logistics on how to order were clearer, it would be helpful. back to the food: everything we ordered was great. the butternut squash tartine won first prize with the frizzled brussels sprouts. i loved my mediterranean salad--especially the crispy chickpeas. food was brought out quickly and our two salad bowls were chilled--a nice touch. water was self served and salt/pepper avail when requested. a light filled space, clean and comfortable, not cramped. everything is also avail to go, and their house coffee, i was told, is epic. tbd later. breakfast items are also available and look promising. if you have not been...try it! read more
