    Biscuit with honey
    Joseph S.

Visiting family again in Wilmette! We returned to Towne and Oak. Of course, I got the biscuit again - it was every bit as good as the last time I was here! I brought my own honey to drizzle on it! Next, I thought I'd try the pancakes. They were okay - light but not so fluffy. I'm used to a fluffier pancake - I make them regularly at home. Beating the eggs and letting the batter sit for several minutes enables the pancake to rise and accentuates the 'cake' of pancake.

Still love this place. Came here again for the Christmas vibes 2 days before Christmas to get some work done. I needed to bribe myself with coffee I didn't make myself and to get out of my house to plow through a bunch of work admin. I took a chance coming here because I know they have some laptop policies, particularly around Christmas. This time it was no laptops after 9am and then none on Friday and weekends during the holiday season. (During the rest of the year it's certain tables that aren't allowed to use laptops and/or certain tables at certain hours). I came in at 7am and it was good motivation for me to knock out a bunch of things efficiently since I have a 9am cutoff lol. They also now put that notice on their front door, which is helpful and was my complaint last year when I came here to do work on a Saturday and found out I couldn't. As always, the coffee was great, and the Home Alone installation is always fun. Their tartines are also always amazing. Definitely keeping this in my regular rotation.

Cute cafe theme decorated from the movie Home Alone. Such a cool and fun place to grab breakfast and enjoy the ambiance. I came on a Saturday around 11Am and it was jammed pack. Even though it was busy, the lines were moving fast and the service was good. I just ordered a hot latte and it was delicious. Clean spacious seating area with lots of tables and chairs for you to enjoy your food and beverages.

Went here for breakfast with my mom and loved it! We shared the tomatoes & burrata (added prosciutto), miso-glazed salmon bowl (I added egg and avocado), and the breakfast sandwich (highly recommend swapping the biscuit for a croissant). Drinks were the matcha latte and the hot apple cider (fall special)--both were great. The space is bright and roomy with plenty of natural light, and the staff was super friendly. It's also a nice spot to study or work remotely. Note: a handful of tables are laptop-free between 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Sorry, not sorry, but Towne & Oak, it's you, not me. I do want to note that the ambiance of this place is great - it is bright and spacious, and there typically is enough seating. However, the items they serve are so ill-prepared while being super overpriced. Their drinks are consistently watered down and always served lukewarm, even when it's been requested, multiple times, to have them be extra hot. When we bring it up to the staff, they respond that that is how they make and serve their drinks; they really couldn't care less. The pastries are always dried out, no matter what time of day you go, even in the mornings! And, the cookies, while tasty, are always cold, and there isn't an option to warm these up. There's plenty of staff lingering around, but they don't maintain the space, never wiping down the tables for incoming patrons as it's always filthy and sticky, especially if children were part of the previous party. Don't get duped by the aesthetics! +dried-out pastries +lukewarm/watered down coffees +price gouging +inattentive staff +dirty tables

    Buttermilk pancakes

A lovely restaurant and a very good place for breakfast/brunch, but the acoustics here make it unexpectedly loud and difficult to have a casual conversation. We came here on a mid-Saturday morning and were pleased to discover that it wasn't too crowded at all. Even better, they apparently only serve pancakes on the weekends so we came on the right day. After considering the menu we went to the counter and placed our order, strongly considering whether to try one of their beautiful pastries in the display case. Buttermilk pancakes - I have high expectations of any pancake, because I make some killer pancakes myself. These were, in fact, very nice. Light and airy, which is important so that it soaks up the copious amounts of butter and syrup that we added. No complaints here; these were quite excellent pancakes French omelet - I loved how light and fluffy the egg was; I've tried to accomplish the same texture at home but haven't figured out the secret yet. The filling was goat cheese that was smooth and not too salty, and the whole thing was topped with a few snap peas and an herb salad which provided a nice crisp bite. Applewood smoked bacon - this, sadly, was a bit of a miss. Four small pieces of bacon that had a nice flavor, but was just a little overcooked and dry. Still, it was a good counterpoint to the sweetness of the pancakes. Prices here are good - TBH I expected to pay a lot more in Winnetka, but in fact it was less expensive than the breakfast places that I go to back in the SF Bay area. The cafe is naturally lit with a high atrium-style ceiling, but this also leads to unfavorable acoustics. We sat in the middle of the restaurant, but the laughter of a table all the way by the entrance echoed throughout the entire place. Nonetheless, this a fine breakfast experience and deserving of a return visit someday.

French omelette, biscuit with jam and whipped butter, soft scrambled eggs.

Delicious brunch this morning. French omelette and soft scrambled eggs. We split a biscuit. Hot green Rishi tea and iced tea were just perfect. Great staff attentive helped us and we lingered over our meal while catching up. Restaurant was full at noon on Saturday. We grabbed a little table in the back corner which was less crowded.

I absolutely love this place! Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, it's a must-visit every time I come back. The food is incredible, with a fantastic selection of breakfast and lunch items...especially the breakfast sandwiches!! The atmosphere is what sets it apart. It's cozy and very picturesque. A visit during the holiday season is a must because the entire place is decked out in Home Alone memorabilia. Such a fun and nostalgic tribute to Kevin McCallister's house, which is actually just around the corner...such a fun place to bring your coffee and hot chocolate after.

A popular little spot in the heart of downtown on the main drag. Options to dine in or out. This is a catch all third place, so you will see everything from the coffee crowd, the mimosa crowd, the lunch crowd, the telecommuter crowd, the remote work crowd, etc. The main focus is on breakfast, lunch, brunch, and simple or RTD cocktails. The space is bright, big, and roomy with many different types of seating options so plenty of room to spread around and do your thing. That work lunch meeting you've been meaning to have; or the catch up with that friend? This is the place!

I wish I lived closer because this spot is amazing! The holiday pop up is sooo cute and the space is just gorgeous. I love the open feel and my iced coffee was yummy! The yogurt was ok, I'd get something different.

Really cute cafe with event space in the back. There is a lot of natural light. Pretty much our last meal before we left. We had the egg sandwich and crispy salad. It was a nice size meal and my daughter just shared

As expected, the restaurant was packed, both inside and in the beautiful courtyard. Families filled the dining room, with children of all ages at about 90% of the tables. The team at Pomeroy has been so consistent and professional, that all of our dishes were delivered at a perfect and steady pace, and qualities remained high. Although we got a different server each time we went, they were all very welcoming, friendly, and attentive.  This time, Carlisle did such a wonderful job even though she was super busy, and she wished me a happy Mother's Day several times to make sure that my day was special.  I must mention that the friendly hostess greeted me with well wishes too, and said happy Mother's day again when we left. We had noticed that they had replaced the couch in front of the courtyard fireplace with more tables.  Who could blame them when they had so many patrons to seat.  However, the courtyard still looked gorgeous. Now on to the food and drinks.  I had a mocktail Bleu 75 ($13) that's my favorite, my husband had a glass of chardonnay ($17), our daughter had a Le Spritz Strawberry ($16).  We shared an order of Sea Scallops ($23) and a Warm Tomato Tarte ($19).  I had my go-to dish which was the Mediterranean Sea Bass ($38), I loved the seared skin that was crispy on the edges. Husband and Daughter each ordered a Spring Halibut ($92 for 2) from the Mother's Day menu.  We ordered 2 Strawberry Crème Brulee ($28 for 2), and I shared 1 with my husband.  I also had a cappuccino ($6). The check came up to $283.05 before tips (they add a 3% surcharge to each guest check, which may be removed upon request, we didn't).  As always, our dinner was very enjoyable and it's worth the money.  I had a very happy Mother's Day dinner, and it ended a wonderful weekend with high notes!  We will keep returning!

When we got to Pomeroy for dinner, we were seated in the farthest back room, one that was open-air ... the staff never asked us, they just put us there. The room was nice as was the weather, but the open-air room had gnats all over the place. Now we realize that gnats or fruit flies oftentimes come with wine servings ... and the Pomeroy has a bunch of nice wines, but the gnats flying around your face all through dinner was not pleasant. We ordered drinks to start, and found it hit-or-miss. The Watermelon Margarita seemed tempting, so we tried one. It came with a big smear of Tajin powder on the rim, and was not appealing. Once again, we thought they should mention this kind of thing before it appears. They replaced the drink, but it kept us off on the wrong foot. All in all, they still put our good food. Our complaint was the seating, the gnats, and the Tajin powder ... all they had to do was ask for our preferences and these could have been avoided. But alas, they drop to four stars.

Apparently, the center hosts many performing arts programs that include dance, theater, music and more.  When we were viewing artwork of the exhibit, a friendly elderly actor of the center greeted us while taking a break on a comfy couch.  We could hear music rehearsal in the theatre when we passed by. They also have education programs, youth sports programs, a full-service fitness center, classes and lectures -- all kinds of activities that help enrich lives of residents of not just Winnetka, but of the broader North Shore. When I read their Yelp reviews, I learnt that the center is even a popular weddings and events venue!  It is truly a versatile community house! We had a tour scheduled with Sahra, but it was moved to a different time, which seemed like it may have been to accommodate another group. When we arrived, the front desk gentleman was very kind, but we ended up waiting about 20 minutes while Sahra continued speaking with the previous tour group. She clearly saw us waiting but didn't acknowledge us or apologized when she eventually came over. Once the tour finally started, it felt very rushed. The entire walkthrough lasted maybe 15-20 minutes, and there wasn't much opportunity to ask questions before she quickly moved on to the next area. At the end, I asked if she could send photos of the space set up for weddings so we could better visualize it decorated. Her response was, "I won't remember, just email me--I had three tours today." We were the third tour, which made the comment feel dismissive. What stood out even more was that the previous group had asked about placing a hold on the space and did not receive that same response. Overall, the experience felt unprofessional and unwelcoming. After touring around 20 venues, this was by far the most disappointing experience. As for the space itself, it felt very small and somewhat outdated. The bridal and groomsmen suites were essentially small conference rooms. In my opinion, the venue may be better suited for smaller events like a bridal or baby shower rather than a full wedding. Unfortunately, due to both the service and the space, I would not recommend spending your time touring here.
