I finally came this summer, when they were playing Barbie. We purchased tickets earlier in the day and ate dinner next door to make sure we got good seats. That turned out to be unnecessary, but they did mention that some showings had sold out recently. I recommend getting tickets earlier rather than later! You can purchase tickets online or in person. I loved the ambiance in the theater - from the gorgeous velvet curtains to the stars in the ceiling designed by an astronomy professor. So much history has been maintained while adding modern comfort. The popcorn is also tasty and they carry local soda.

A great concession stand that isn't over priced or ridiculous like modern movie theaters (seriously--a bucket of popcorn for $3? A jumbo soda for $2? Insane) and they carry more than just popcorn. Candy, caramel apples, ice cream, milk shakes, a variety of fried foods including funnel cake. The place just smells awesome. Old neon signs adorn the walls as well as photos of classic Hollywood stars. Neato! Each night your entrance fee buys you into a double feature. Usually it's a kid's movie first followed by a grown up feature. This past weekend it was two adult films-- Salt and Grown Ups. You pull your car into the slot and you have the old fashioned speakers hanging next to your car should you choose them. I'm a mosquito magnet so leaving the windows open would just not do so we opted to listen to the radio feed that runs over a local FM station. Right in front of the screen are swings and a few playground pieces for kids to play around in. Some folks choose to sit on blankets outside of their cars. However you feel most comfortable you can go for it at the Cherry Bowl. The show begins after dusk and before the first film they make special occasion announcements and everyone lays down on the horn in congratulations of birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, etc. So cute! Then they play an old cartoon short (e.g. an old Disney Mickey Mouse short) and then the first feature film. Following that is a classic intermission with old "let's all go to the lobby" reels, commercials for mosquito repellant and pickles. Really awesome old timey stuff. Then the second feature beings. We were exhausted and not particularly interested in seeing Grown Ups so we made sure to stick out for the awesome intermission and took off after. If you're up in the Leelanau area I highly recommend this wonderful blast from the past. The films never go over pg-13 so it's usually kid friendly faire and fun for all ages!

We are 'premier' AMC members, which is worthwhile. You get a 'special' line which bypass the non-premier members, although you have to more/less self-administrate being noticed at the head of the premier line. Discounts are generous, and the perks are worth the small fee to join. We purchase tickets in advance online, which allows a nice seat selection. I don't know how well the combined concession / ticket line works for those who do not do so. I suspect for those who do not purchase concessions, the resultant wait time might be longer....but it beats standing in two different lines. All told, Traverse is lucky to have a theater like this....it has 'big city' amenities in what really is just a small town.

The Cabbage Shed is a must visit!…read more I've been to Frankfort a few times but I was introduced to The Cabbage Shed during this recent visit. I was surprised it took so long to learn about this place! I visited during the warmer months so the outdoor patio was open. They have a DJ on the patio that allows you to request a song via submitting a song from the available vinyls. It was fun to look through the vinyls he had available and playing throwback songs. The Cabbage Shed is extremely popular so I highly recommend making a reservation, if possible. The outdoor sitting goes fast but they have ample indoor tables. My group was able to at least sit next to a window even though we were inside. The view on the patio is breathtaking! Even if you cannot sit outside, they'll let you step out to take a photo from the second floor if it's not too busy inside. I'm not sure if it's a requirement but every place in this area pour heavy handed. No complaints! I ordered the baked penne with sausage and it was unbelievable. I ordered this dish months ago and I still mention it anytime I reflect on my trip. The dish was flavorful and the ingredients tasted fresh. This was a relief because that's not the case for a lot of places nearby. I was easily able to get a a second meal out of my order. If I'm able to get at minimum two meals from my order it's always worth the price. I will definitely visit The Cabbage Shed during my future visits.
