Prior to moving to Vancouver, I lived in a suburb outside of Seattle, and there was the most incredible nursery/home goods/gift store nearby, in neighboring Woodinville (for those who know the geography), where we'd go frequently, as they had SO many gorgeous items (house items, pet items, gourmet foods, linens, women's fashion accessories, lotions and potions and soaps, plants of course, and a phenomenal cafe in the middle, like you were dining in a plush garden. This "store"/nursery was called Molbak's, and they had events at every holiday, free plays for the kids, free pumpkin painting, free Christmas shows, huge poinsettia events....the holidays were huge here, and even during non-holiday times, Molbak's was a gorgeous, special place. We brought out-of-towners here when they visited. There was always something for everyone here. High-end and unique items, beautiful stationery, holiday items that were NOT kitschy, plants and flowers and garden stuff.....and the café! SO good. There was something for everyone, and everyone loved it. This GardenWorks reminded me SO much of Molbak's. Just on a smaller scale. What a wonderful place, to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. You really feel like you're in a special, hideaway garden. There are cute cats roaming about (and I'm not even a "cat person"!), and twinkling lights, and beautiful house and garden/patio areas. I found artisan glass hanging balls. I found ceramic koi fish figurines. I found unique earrings and rings. There's an area with women's clothing and accessories, men's grooming supplies, gourmet foods, kitchen gadgets, patio decor and furniture, garden sculptures, SO many plants and flowers and succulents and bonsais and birdhouses, and gardening supplies and tools, and more. Much more. Since we visited right after Christmas, they were having a 60% off sale on holiday decorations. I snagged some amazing ornaments for a steal (and they were super nice, good quality, too). They had a huge selection of ornaments, lights, figurines and more. I just wish they had some boxed holiday cards. We had a light lunch here in the cafe, by the fireplace. SO nice. I had a fabulous BLT (the bacon was cooked perfectly and wonderfully smoky), and there were lots of decadent pastries to choose from, too. I like the outdoor patio area for dining, too (but it was closed off for the winter. I look forward to checking it out come spring). The staff at the cafe counter, and at the store check-out counter, and outside too (we chatted with a guy about some trees), all were SO friendly and knowledgeable. Lots and lots of things to peruse through here. Many different types of plants and things. They have two sides to their shop. One for more merchandise / home décor area and the other half is the actual plants and plant things. Service is always filled with good advice and knowledge. A bit on the pricey side. A hidden gem inside a garden store. It is probably the last place you would think of to eat if you have never been here. There is a small cafe inside the store that services pastries, coffee and brunch. They have first come first serve opening seating with both indoor and outdoor seating areas. We sat inside when we came. The cafe opens at 9 and we got there at around 9:30 am and the place was pretty packed already. We ordered a banana loaf, almond croissant, blackstone benny and 2 lattes. It was good that we got some pastries because the food came out kind of slow. The place feels very chill and welcoming. I see lots of family and older folks dining and chilling at the place. I can totally see why! They have good coffee! It's smooth and strong. read more

Café at Mandeville located inside Garden Works in Burnaby is one of Lower Mainland's hidden gems. Enjoy delicious food, browse home decor, and find your perfect plant buddy all in one spot. The California eggs Benny was truly delicious but the potatoes stole the show. They were packed with flavour and were beautifully crispy. The classic breakfast dish and iced latte were also delicious. The strawberry creamy cheese waffles were delicious but a bit soggy. It would have been wise if they placed the strawberry jam, cream cheese spread and whipped cream on the side. The store it self is very cute and I could spend hours and hundreds of dollars there! Updated review as my last one was 9 years ago. Clearly I love this place as we've been having brekkie/brunch here for decades. Ryan is a very thoughtful cafe manager and thinks of everything. The menu is updated often and the staff is lovely. They do get rushes, so be patient if that happens. It's a cafe within a garden centre, not a chain restaurant. The greenhouse is magical when the wind comes through from outside on a sunny day, and even when it's rainy and you can head the raindrops hitting the roof. New menu items recently that we tried were the pork belly Benny and Oreo waffle. Both a bit hit. read more

Luv this location as they have those FABULOUS smaller, double tiered buggies. I have a spinal disability + these carts are easy to maneuver thru the clothing area + garden centre. I've also had many enjoyable meals here with super staff on hand. I'm sad the fresh cut flowers are no longer, but this is still my favourite spot to come. Cute little hidden cafe at GardenWorks Mandeville. I think most people this place only sold gardening supplies so the cafe is pretty quiet. Inside, the dining area is pretty average with their yellow table cloths and light color wooden chairs. I preferred sitting outdoors where it was shaded by 2 huge Willow Trees and yellow patio umbrellas. Food was a bit overpriced: Bacon eggs benedict with salad - At $13, this was probably the most worth it item on the menu. At least it was hot and required cooking. Eggs were medium and Hollandaise sauce was good. Chicken salad croissant - Decent, but the croissant wasn't freshly baked. Chicken were good cuts of breast meat. Ham and corn muffin - It was heated in the microwave so I was skeptical, but it tasted fine. Just the right amount of savoury with a tiny hint of sweetness from the corn. Kid's Grilled Cheese - Nothing to write home about, it's grilled cheese. The bill came up to $40 including a couple cups of coffee as well. It was a sunny day filled with a light breeze so essentially, perfect for a patio breakfast. read more

We had been to the Cafe at Mandevilles (Garden Works) for breakfast 8 times and it was always good - however, our last occasion it was horrible. Had the California Eggs Benedict - English muffin was hard and dry, the egg was undercooked, and fried potatoe pieces were cold. We all kept eating, then stopped, waiting for it improve somehow. It didn't and we left our plates full. Had we not had to pay first we would have not paid and simply left. For the huge price they charge it was most certainly very disappointing. We had horrible indigestion and were sick that night. We won't be returning. Better off going to A&W with our coupons and paying a third of the price and A&W has always been a "HIT" and never once a "MISS". Lost our business. read more

Went for lunch waiting over 30 min in line to order food only to be told we would have to take out. Server made our elderly friend get up from a seat as we had not ordered yet. Was very rude. Since my last review, we had a private event here for my parents wedding anniversary. The event planning staff were amazing! Helping us come up with a canape menu, setting up partial walls so we could have the whole cafe for our party. Since they have decorations and artwork everywhere that they sell it needed very few decorations from us! Perfect. Also, even though they are attached to a florist they never batted an eye that we brought in our own flowers, we decided to spend our budget on food and drinks! Everyone loved it, a nice summer patio event and someone else to take care of the food and clean up, I wish I knew about private events here earlier! read more

A nice relaxing place to grab breakfast or lunch. Not too busy, even on weekends. Kind of expensive but the quality is good. Two fair-sized sandwich combos and two glasses of tea were $40. We come quite regularly, unfortunately we haven't seen the Mexican soup again as it was a favourite. Sandwiches don't seem to come with included sides anymore, which is a shame. read more

Not as good as what the other reviews raved about and it's always a bummer when you find out it's not that good.. The food is tasty I have to give it that but blue berry waffles and some poached eggs with bacon and toast that comes up to $30?! That's way to expensive and it's not that good to be charging breakfast for that much.... The cafe is located near the intersection of Nelson Ave and Marine Dr. Right in the gardenworks green house and shops. Tucked away inside the store where they sell funky wind chimes, home decorations and a bunch of stuff for your house.. Firstly they got my order wrong when I said I wanted an eggs benedict and gave me poached eggs instead and when I asked them that they isn't what I ordered and the server said back 'you said you ordered it'. I know what I ordered... and told her that this wasn't what I wanted. But she was defensive about not having to take back the already made dish back to fix it.. so I just let it go and ate the wrong order. Unfortunately, the place isn't that great for brunch as it's just a mini cafe within the store to people's convenience who's shopping it's definitely not a place you want to go out of your way to , to just grab brunch. Sometimes I would even think White Spot is better, cheaper, larger portion and servers aren't going to debate with you that you were wrong....... Just not a great first time experience. read more

I thought this would be a nice place to take an elder in my life. They were closed when we arrived. I had assumed it would be open when the garden store was... That makes sense to me. We tried again this week and what a disappointment. Maybe they didn't know, after having been open for several years, that it gets busy during the ramp up to xday? Yeah. There were 4 tables available but piled with dirty dishes. I decided to be proactive and busked a table. It was terribly dirty... It was actually gross. I went to the kitchen to ask for a cloth to clean it and the person came out and cleaned it for us. I expected the person to grab some of the heaps of dirty dishes on their way back to the kitchen, you know? With efficiency in mind? Nope. We sat down and our beverages spilled all over the table. Remember Weebles? They wobble and don't fall down? Imagine setting a cup of coffee on a Weeble and pretending that it is a table. With less than 1/2 a cup full each we decided not to refill them in case that would happen again. Sure enough it did happen again! It turns out... as the server said,"I knew you shouldn't have sat there!"... that the floorboards are more like springboards. Those combined with the Weeble-table were a well-known recipe for disaster. Someone walks by and your cup empties onto the table. Here I have questions. 1. Why didn't the server tell us? We could have had hot coffee all over us. 2. Why are they keeping this table? Is it a souvenir? 3. Why didn't they hire enough staff to keep the place tidy, clean and welcoming? 4. Having been a server... Why would you ever walk around empty handed when there is so much that needs to be caught up on? 5. Why would you keep inefficient staff on? A number of staff members came out onto the floor without clearing the tables. Beyond that my tea was meh and my companion's coffee wasn't much more than hot water with a suggestion of coffee. We were both glad that 2/3 of our beverages had spilled out. The carrot cake was underneath so much icing it should have been advertised as icing cake. I didn't order anything to eat because we were there for desserts and the cases were almost empty when we arrived. I went to Willows cafe with a coworker for lunch. I had previewed the menu online, and thought that everything sounded delicious. When we got to the cafe, there were 2 people working there, both with anything but people skills. They also didn't have everything on the online menu available (I wanted soba noodles so badly!). We both ordered sandwiches with salad, were given a number, and sat down. And we waited...and waited...half an hour for a sandwich! When it arrived, we got half a grunt asking if that was all for our table, and the waitress left before we could answer. In conclusion: Rude staff, overpriced, not worth it. read more
