This was my first time hiring movers and I felt it was well worth it for Gardner and Sons. Gardner and Sons communicated well- I contacted them a month before my move date to schedule and they called to confirm the date with me a week out. They also called me the morning of my move to let me know the team would be late, though it was within a reasonable time frame. Once on site they assessed what they had to move and then kept one person at the truck to direct the loading while the rest of the team got to work. I lived on a third floor walk up with weird corners and had some heavy furniture to move, such as a pull out bed couch. They handled what I had thought were hard or heavy things with ease. Talking to the team I learned one of the guys had been a mover for 40 years! Talk about experienced! They were used to moving multi-room large houses with much heavier items. The load out was the longest part of my move and load in went fast. Price-wise compared to other companies I looked at they were among the most reasonable. They base their estimates off of time and the final move cost was true to my quote. read more

!!!!DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! If I could give them ZERO STARS, I would!! This is, by far, THE WORST moving company I've ever used. They were rude, they charged my fiancée and I $300 more than they quoted us, with no extras, they just threw on $300 extra dollars. Then, they destroyed our TV (see pictures) and said they WILL NOT do anything because "THEY BELIEVE", they didn't do it. We've asked for the owner to call us several times and we have been ignored every time!!! I told them we would get our attorney involved and the man who was the secretary said, "do what you gotta do". Clearly very educated.... We will give the owner until Monday to call us back and make this right, or we will be there bright and early Monday (9/25/23) with our Attorney. read more

During our move a few days before Christmas my traceable laptop and air buds were stollen. The police needed to get involved. The company gave no remorse and the gentleman who answered actually told me I would apologize when I found them. The owner of the company was of no help. The worst part is the laptop had emotional attachment as it had all the pictures from when my husband was deployed and my child has just been born (all the documentation of what he missed.) Forget the laptop... make sure you have a male figure around as the three men said "hurry up the husband just pulled in" when my husband left to go to check on the old home they slowed down again. Every neighbor mentioned their poor work ethic and how they were milking the time. Only giving one star because it won't let me give 0 stars. read more

I've used Gardner twice before my move in May 2021 and was pleased. The move in May was a nightmare. They arrived with a too small truck and too few men thanks to Brenda who minimized my household goods. They started around 2:30pm and didn't finish until 9:30pm. They made two trips and still did not get all of my stuff. They punctured a TV screen and broke the acrylic cover of a large, treasured print. I reported the damage twice and received no response. I also had a box of tools clearly marked "LOAD LAST" because I would need those right away. I later found it in my basement under some other boxes. read more

Recently, my wife and I purchased a house. Our closing date was given to us extremely quickly after months of going through the buying process and we found ourselves looking for a moving company that could move us soon. I was proactive and had already gotten quotes from several companies. Gardner was our second choice (they were very slightly more expensive than our first), but they had the availability we were looking for, so I set up an appointment for a Saturday at 2 PM with Brenda. Saturday came and I got a phone call about noon, saying they had finished a job early and were wondering if they could head over early. I told them they could, and they were there within 35 minutes, so much earlier than I expected, which was completely fine with us. I appreciated that they called and offered to come early right after another job. We were given 3 guys, two movers and one packer/driver, and their price also included their 26 foot truck, so I didn't have to deal with renting/driving a moving truck. I mostly interacted with the movers. We had packed all our belongings and hired movers simply to pack and unpack the truck. They were quick and efficient and constantly kept in contact with me about what they were planning on doing with our belongings, asking me questions about what I wanted done in certain situations, and giving me certain items they felt it'd be better for me to hold onto over having in the truck. They went to a second stop with me, loaded that quickly, and unloaded extremely quickly at the final location. One of the movers even made sure he put our adjustable bed base back together correctly after he took it apart. When unloading, they asked about every piece being taken off the truck, where I'd like it, and brought it to those rooms. Both movers were very personable, professional, respectful and had great attitudes. My old house was packed, a second location packed, and the new house unpacked in 4 hours, extremely quickly and efficiently. When it comes to moving, you always have that moment asking yourself "am I really paying people to do something I could do myself?" But it's definitely some of the best money I've ever spent. I have no complaints about their service, and would 100% recommend them and use them again. read more

I usually don't complain, and a few years ago I would have written a 5 star review, but not any more! I am a Property Manager at a senior apartment complex and they destroyed the carpet in one of our hallways, after I told them not to put anything heavy on the carts they were using. Our carpet was pulled up everywhere, and I had to call someone to repair it. I called Gardner and Sons thinking that the right thing for them to do would be to pay for the repair, since they were the ones who did the damage. Whoever answered the phone said the owner would call me back. Still waiting for that to happen... It's too bad because I referred them a lot to people moving in and moving out, NOT ANYMORE! Brenda was quick and clear about the cost of moving a single heavy object. The price was reasonable and there were no surprises with the bill on moving day. The appointment was made and set in a timely window. On the day of moving , the moving team were in the area early and phoned to ask permission to come a half hour early, which was fine with us. They arrived fully masked for Covid, and assessed the equipment and the area we wanted it placed. They were considerate with our home, friendly, quick, and professional. So I used this company last year to move into a 2br apartment. The service was excellent and they completed the task in 3.5 hours (1 hour travel + 2.5 hours move). Total cost was $350. This year I was pleased that Gardner was available for my new move from the apartment into a Townhouse down the street. They were moving the same contents -2br and one small LR set. The crew did not quite seem up to the task this time, and we overheard one of them complaining how tired he was and that he needed to slow down. Needless to say it now took them 3.5 hours and they charged me $625. A 92% increase for the same contents! When I asked to speak with the owner to understand what was happening I was told I could not, and if I did not pay them right then and there they were calling the Police on me for theft of service! Bottom line here- while it's great that they bill by the hour, you should consider using another moving company that will give you a quote and stick to it. There's no reason it should have cost this much to move so little contents! read more

Gardner Movers moved us on 10/25/18. They were awesome! They worked steadily, taking care of the furniture, while both loading and unloading. It was amazing watching them work! They are the best movers to hire in syracuse. Brenda who anwers the phone was so very nice & helpful. The movers were at my storage unit before i arrived. They were absolutely great. So very careful when moving my stuff into their truck. I wanted to give them a hand but they said to me (don't touch a thing we will take care of it for you,just point to what you want us to take & will take care of the rest) They were very friendly & polite. When they arrived at my destination they put everything in my place after i showed them where it was to go. I highly recommend this company if you need to move. Very professional & friendly. I would never in my life recommend these people. We had 3 guys moving us, two of them kept bickering the whole time, while the youngest one was busting his tail to get the job done. I have never heard moving guys voice their hatred for their job as much as these guys did. They complained about how much stuff they had to move, etc. It was ridiculous. They were very careless with our belongings, they didn t wrap anything up when putting it in the truck, instead they just literally threw stuff on top of other stuff in the truck. When we arrived at the new house, they tore up our lawn and damaged some of our furniture, as well as damaged our house. They tore off the railing going downstairs, damaged our walls, the stripping for the carpet, one of the guys even proceeded to PUNCH our wall. We have pictures upon pictures and they are trying to get out of paying the deductible back to us by claiming they never did damage. When they actually sent their own people out to attempt to fix our furniture. We had a manager/supervisor come to our house to see the damage and deal with one of the guys who couldn t handle his temper and almost had to call the cops on because he wouldn t get out of our face after we confronted him about punching our wall. He was supposedly fired right in front of us. This was one of the worst days of our lives. PLEASE, I am begging you DO NOT use this company!!! This company is a joke! Not professional by any means. Good afternoon, I am taking the time to write this review because I am extremely discontented with your service. I do not usually reach out to companies that prove to be unreliable as I would just move on, but given your written and word of mouth positive reviews I thought it necessary to reach out. I called your company and spoke to Brenda about setting up a estimate at my home with Frank. It was a pleasant conversation and she shared that Frank was just coming back from vacation and suggested making an appointment at the end of the week. The appointment time came and no one had arrived or phoned so I placed a call and Brenda and she stated that she would contact Frank and call me back immediately. There was no call back so I left a message asking for a reschedule. I am understanding, things happen. There was no return call and later on the following week I spoke to Brenda again and she apologized and shared that this is a very busy time for your company. She stated that she would personally give message to Frank. So here I sit still with no contact from your company. I just thought that you might appreciate knowing that people do regard follow through and I am extremely shocked with your companies lack of commitment to potential clients. read more

I hired this company to help me load moving pods. They did a TERRIBLE job. They put all of my light boxes marked "fragile" (had tape that said fragile and "fragile" written on the box) on the bottom of the pod and loaded all the heavy boxes on top of them. The heavy boxes on top crushed the boxes below during the move damaging a lot of my kitchen breakables. They also scratched up an end table and broke the drawer tracks while trying to get it out the front door, but never told me about. They told me my pods were "completely full" and they didn't have room for anything else; so I ordered another pod for $1,200. When we were unloading we realized they weren't even 75% full and that the "helpers" simply wanted to get off of work. My washer and dryer were stacked on top of each other without using the padding we supplied them with and now both are scratched and washing machine spin makes a lot of noise because it's off the track due to shaking too much because it didn't have any padding. Last but not least, the guys show up without any tools to take stuff apart with. I have called them but get no answer, I have emailed them twice, but get no response. I've had to file a claim with the BBB and will be taking them to small claims court soon. DO NOT HIRE THESE GUYS!!!! read more
