This place does not stand behind it's product. Beware of what you buy, you are better off going to Country Needleworks in Jenison as they are more friendly and more apt to work with you on the product that you buy. The yarn that I bought ($18 a skein) broke apart in several places. Purchased it in March could not knit for 6 months, when I picked it up it was broken in several places. They would not stand behind this yarn. Bid disappointment as I thought they were a quality shop. They must buy from a second hand place. read more

Great yarn selection! The shop is organized very well and staff are friendly and helpful. They also carry a good selection of yarn that is not 100% wool which is great for those of us who are sensitive and unable to wear wool. It's a good thing this shop isn't in my backyard - I could do some real damage to my credit card! read more

It's well laid out, wonderfully organized, and a joy to visit. One of the standout features of Garenhuis is the dedication of its owner. She's well-known for her willingness to help customers select the right materials and to address any reasonable concerns that might arise. This is a wonderful shop! I first stopped here this past October when I was in Saugatuck for a weekend retreat with some girlfriends. A few of us decided to go yarn shopping since we saw this was not too far away. The shop is packed full of a wide range of yarns from inexpensive to high-end. They carry two of my favorite lines: Quince & Co. and Woolfolk. They also have quite a bit knitting and crochet tools and accessories. I felt like a kid in a candy store. I was back in the area a few weeks later and had to make a stop in here again. Never fear non-fiber friends, there is an area in the back where you can sit on a comfy couch and relax while the yarnies get their knit (or crochet) on. What a lovely shop. I discovered this yarn shop during the 2018 Yarn Quest. I am from Holland, but had never made it to this shop which is located facing 9th Street, right behind 8th Street Grill. The shop is bright, well organized with an abundance of models, a huge selection of wonderful yarns from all over the world, and plenty of yarn of your choice to actually use for a large project. When I found a sample I loved, the pattern was readily available . There are notions, needles, project bags and gifts. I actually bought a Tee Shirt that was just adorable, and I am not a big tee shirt kind of girl. I do plan on going to one of the open knit groups, because the shop is so bright, and open, yet cozy. I love supporting small, local businesses whenever I can. I was looking for a high end chunky yarn that is difficult to find in my area (Arizona) for a Christmas project, but this store appeared in my online search. I was happy to discover that they have an online ordering system (with live stock status!) and they had the exact yarn I needed (and more). I placed my order on a Sunday night, and asked if it was possible to wind the hanks of yarn before shipping, because I don't know how to do so at home. In less than 10 minutes, I had an email from the store stating my order was received and they would be happy to wind the yarn for me, and ship out ASAP in the morning. It's Weds, I have my yarn, it's gorgeous, and could not be happier. What great service. What kind people. I cannot wait until my next trip to Michigan to see this store in person. Thank you! GarenHuis is a beautiful shop, full of gorgeous yarns, notions, buttons, books and much more. Its absolutely BEST FEATURE is owner Shelly Filips and her impeccable customer service. Throughout these difficult COVID weeks/months of staying home, Shelly has done an amazing job helping me select yarns, via the studio's easy and well organized website. When a color wasn't quite what I expected, she guided me to a better solution. All my orders have arrived in no more than 2 days via USPS. Found myself in Holland for work, and decided that I just had to swing by and check out this yarn shop that I had bookmarked last fall. So glad I did! Friendly staff greeted me upon entering, and let me browse to my heart's content. When I mentioned I was pulling up something on Ravelry on my phone, she said "Oh, come use our computer" and walked me over to their desktop station which is just for that sort of thing. Their yarn selection is large, well-organized, and has great variety. There are local (Michigan-made) items as well as well-known brands. They carry lots of notions, buttons, project bags, and all the other extras you might need. They have station set up to compare and try different brands of knitting needles, which I thought was very clever. And their "sit and knit" area looked very comfortable. I can't wait to come back when I don't have time constraints and can stay a bit longer. read more

Lovely store. My 13 year old grandson and I went yarn shopping, while on vacation in Michigan. The shop is really well organized and easy to navigate. My grandson "learned a lot" - his words - about yarn because of how yarn was grouped. The person, who helped us, was kind and patient with my grandson and I appreciated that. We found yarn for the pair of socks he asked me to knit for him and he was fascinated with the swift and ball winder that transformed the skein into a ball of yarn. Masks were required and we were grateful for that protection as we wear ours. The is a table with hand sanitizer at the front door that we used so that we could wander the store and enjoy touching a few skeins. Hope to go back in person but I will order online until my next trip. Having owned a yarn shop for 10 years I appreciate this lovely store. read more

Wow! Fabulous selection of beautiful yarns and knitting related gift items, notions, etc. Ravelry access via a large screen desktop computer -- not as portable or convenient as using one's own iPad, but it gives you a much more accurate view of whatever you look up. In this shop I would overlook a lot just to be there, and drool over the yarn. Great people, great setting, great all around. Also a very generous return policy, in case you need to take something home and ponder your plans for it. So glad this shop has opened in town. read more

A very cool new shop! It's lovely inside, and the woman who was there was very nice and informative. I went with my sister, who has recently gotten into knitting, and we felt welcome to look around and learn more, not hassled or guilted into making a purchase.
