Unbelievable, I have never played a golf course that doesn't work with their PAYING customers!!! NEVER! This is an up north course that thinks they are Treetops .. lol... Even Treetops works with their paying customers. We have been coming here for years. WTH are they thinking? They must have more money than they no what to do with! That's okay, because there are a ton more golf courses around. I loved Cedar Valley, bilut I can always find another one.

We were going to stay in a single villa but when we got to it (which seemed like a quarter mile walking from the parking lot), we were very disappointed. The fact that it was rustic was okay but we had inquired if there was a table where we could play cards in the evening and were told "yes". Well, the table was a small coffee table. The biggest problem was the bathroom shower which had a lot of mold. I attempted to call the front desk to report it but neither one of the two phones in the villa worked so I used my cell. I took a photo of the mold and requested that we be moved to the lodge. They did honor our request and the room was small but okay. When checking out the person at the front desk said that they checked out the bathroom issue that I reported and tholught it was fine. I was furious because I had a photo to prove my point and didn't like the attitude. The restaurant has a breakfast buffet but we decided to order individually. The servers don't come to your table - you go to the bar and order and pay and then someone brings your order to you. Lunch and dinner which are mediocre are served by the staff. Honestly, they need to invest some money to make improvements in the accommodations. We loved the courses but won't be returning because there is no option to stay anywhere else in that area that is decent.

It had a café, five individual lifts, plenty of fun trails and a massive terrain park. The café at Otsego was a very nice one, and had a large fire which was great to come into on a cold day. Unfortunately I wasn't able to be there for too long, and therefore couldn't see too many things that they served, but one thing I know was that the hot chocolate is great and the candy bars are delicious. The trails at Otsego were also great, but had a bit of a higher skill level. They had a few easy blues and greens, like Für Elise and Alan's alley for begenners, but no bunny hill, a load of blacks like waterfall and master's, two steep duo trails that me and my dad very much liked and even a few fun double blacks like Bob's Glade, a exciting and adrenaline-giving slope that emptied out into a easy green. The terrain park was also super fun, with gigantic jumps that sent me very high up into the air but no rails, which was ok but not as cool as it could be. The only rail I could find was a few rotten blocks of wood that someone had thrown together and then left to the power of the forest.

Our room was comfortable enough but outdated as were the exterior and hallway finishings. We were attending a conference and every staff member we encounter was friendly and helpful. The camaraderie at the bar was fun and comfortable however the pool area was like something out of a scary movie. If they have course rules they are not making anyone follow them. The course was filthy. Beer cans were everywhere. Most of the time no one bothered to put them in the trash bins but merely throw them near. Beer cans were hanging from limbs near the cart path, music was being played so loud we were able to "enjoy" it several fairways over. I understand being excited about a good play but to continue to scream for several minutes? Seems there were a lot of young men who felt they needed to scream the day we played. We were not impressed.

We had four foursomes, with experienced golfers ranging in age from 10-77. The younger kids have all played for several years and follow proper etiquette, etc. We were given a tee time today, 45 minutes ahead of a league going out. One foursome in front of us was golfing a bit slowly. We were all golfing as quickly as possible to not hold up folks behind us. We even chose to NOT play two holes, in an effort to make sure the league wasn't held up. We were approached by the employee or owner of the course and asked to speed up. When we explained it was the foursome in front of us holding things up and told him we even skipped a few holes, we were treated with nothing but rudeness. We explained we had been coming here for years, we were told "I don't need your business." When one of us, a business owner himself asked the employee/owner what the goal of a business is, the person said, "to make money." It certainly isn't customer service! We will never return and hope the Yelp readers will heed our warning. Bad business management of tee times, blaming the customer, and rudeness are what you will receive at fairview Hills.

It always sucks. This last trip, on our second day, we left after taking almost 3 hours for 6 holes. A ranger actually came up to us and explained how 2 groups ahead of us they were taking way too long to find lost balls. Why the @#%&# would he not insist that they limit their search time? We left after just those 6 holes. I love the courses, but I doubt I will ever play there again. Even on "good" days it's nearly 6 hours for as round. What a shame. I'm sure as long as they fill their tee sheets, they will never have their rangers do anything to speed up pace of play.

The room is the size of a small apartment with a fireplace, full kitchen and living room. There is also a back porch to sit and look at the stars at night or watch the golfers in day. They also give you a round of golf with each night you stay and have a wonderful restaurant onsite. This was a great place to getaway from the city and recommend to all. They are also known for elk viewing ..which we havent tried yet..but if youre into elk..even more reason to come out this way!! Also- there is a lot of naturey stuff to do in the area..the biggest main city Alpena, is about 20 min away and its right on the lake. There are a lot of trails nearby, biking, swimming and kayaking.

We have been coming to the Loon Resort for years. In fact we were one of the first groups to stay…read morein the Condos. One of my favorite courses is the Lakes. I just love the layout. We've had good years and bad weather wise but we have been treated very well by all the staff at all the courses. We don't visit The Marsh anymore the boys find it too tough. But who said we could play golf. We haven't found a better price deal anywhere and we go from Boyne to Ostego to Loon and Shanty Creek and Traverse City. We've never been disappointed at this resort and are not super fussy. We have always booked the last week of May/first week in June. The worst year we had was just after Covid where they didn't have enough staff hired in yet so the greens were slow but the courses were in pretty good shape overall. Looking forward to our trip back this year.
