What a gem found on the river and central to everything we needed. The staff is amazing and very helpful. They have a nice size pool and bar within a beautiful courtyard with great loungers, tables, and chairs. If there is no one behind the bar they have an honor system that you can write down what you chose. They have everything from non-alcoholic beverages to top shelf, premium spirits. There is a jigger there if you are making yourself some thing so you can be exact on what you took. In the afternoon when there are a few guests enjoying the sun, they do have someone actually coming around to the pool while you are in it asking if you would like anything. They have a Jacuzzi that is available that is right on the river. One just needs to ask them to turn on and give them a half an hour to get it at a perfect temperature. They have a choice of breakfast in the mornings at a fair price. Our room with spectacular, with wonderful rounded tall ceilings, and beautiful stained glass on parts of the top, I believe it was called the countess. If you are looking for a charming, not big hotel feeling this is the place for you. I will stay there when I go to Puerto Vallarta again. read more

Second stay here and this time we're in a nice suite - the "Marrakech." Suoer hot snd humid in August so make sure you get a keratin treatment for the hair before coming. Also keep a look out for tropical storms/ hurricanes. We had a pretty heinous tropical storm during our stay which wiped out the first floor and restaurant. I have been coming to both Garlands and Rivera Del Rio for a number of years now and this time unfortunately my stay was absolutely abysmal and I will not be returning. At my last visit at Rivera Del Rio, they made it clear that construction was ongoing and so I made plans accordingly. However, on my most recent trip, construction has been ongoing at Garlands Del Rio today (Saturday) since 8 am, and the front desk just informed me it will continue until 4 pm. A heads up would have been greatly appreciated prior to booking as the significant noise renders it impossible to relax in my room. Lastly, I am a Hotels.com/Expedia VIP Gold member. The listing guarantees a 2 hour late check out, however Jerry (the manager) informed me they are uncertain if 1. If it can be honored and 2. If so there may be an additional surcharge. When the listing guarantees a late check out, I find this practice to be quite frankly a bait & switch as otherwise I would have booked a different property. I'm quite disappointed as I loved coming to their properties for many years and won't be returning, and wanted to warn off other potential clients as there are certainly numerous options to stay within Puerto Vallarta that would provide better customer service and a more relaxing experience. read more

We stayed at Garlands for 7 nights over the Christmas holiday in the Countess room. All of the staff were so friendly and helpful. Our bed was so comfortable and the sheets so soft. We slept really well! We loved hanging by the pool sipping drinks and reading. The pool is warm and the building is gorgeous! The location is perfect for getting to restaurants, bars, shopping, and the beach. There's a ton of things to do within walking distance. The sister hotel is close by and you can go to the roof top pool and watch the sunset! Beautiful! We look forward to returning in the future! read more

What a wonderful hotel and staff - I'll be back! I enjoyed my room, furnishings, bed, and the bathroom as well, despite the term "antiquated bathrooms." I'm wondering if they intended to say, bathrooms furnished with several antiques?" From the moment I arrived to the point of my departure, the staff was most hospitable. The morning breakfast is delicious (love the bacon) - and the women preparing and serving the breakfast are friendly and offer great customer service. One caveat: This isn't a true bed and breakfast - at least if you book through a third-provider; I don't feel that the management should even use the phrase "bed and breakfast" - it's available for a fee and worth the small cost - and I was told that with subsequent stays booked directly, it would be included. We found this hotel through the Chase rewards portal. It fight our price point and location. It sits in the Romantic Zone, which is really where you want to be in my opinion. This hotel sits just four blocks away from the beach and plenty of places to eat near by. XOXO which Mexico's version of 7-11 can be find a few blocks away from the hotel as well. Very safe area. Recently a hurricane hit the area and it effected the hotel and near by areas. There is construction going on during the day near by that you can hear. The hotel is fixing up itself up little by little. Upon arrival we were greeted with smile and margaritas. There did seem to be a bit of disorganization when getting our room. Our margaritas helped with the wait time. Once in our room, the balloons I requested were there waiting for my girlfriend's birthday. The Garlands del Rio were very proactive with their emails to follow up on when we would be arriving, if we needed transportation from the airport and if we needed to arrange for an antigen test prior to departing back to the states. I still can't say the name correctly, but it I believe it is Merakesh (sp). It's the red room located at the top, which is a suite. Very large room with high ceilings. A ceiling fan, air conditioning, the ability to watch Netflix & YouTube on TV, a large balcony a safe, and bathroom amenities. If you need a hair dryer or iron, you'll have to go downstairs to get it from the front. The same with getting coffee, hot water and ordering breakfast. I did see numerous times when grabbing cups that there were ants in the cabinet where they were placed. I saw some glasses ready to go with salt and lime, just needing the margarita, with ants on the glasses. Bugs are bound to happen as food is out from time to time. The staff was very friendly and helpful with all our questions. If you don't want to go out and search where to get tested before you leave Mexico, the Garlands del Rio can arrange for a doctor/nurse come by the hotel so you can get your test done. The only other thing that my girlfriend wanted to add was that she wishes there was a full length mirror in the room. Other than a couple things, we loved this place. Eating on the balcony over looking the river, even with construction, with the breeze was really nice. read more

The first time we visited PV we stayed in the "New" vallarta section with the resorts and really loved it but for our 6 year anniversary we wanted to try a different vibe near more Action. We researched and found this gem in the heart of zona romantica and it allowed us to experience much more of puerto Vallarta this time. We rented a car and we're pleased to find parking right in front, this saved us plenty of pesos on transportation. We arrived early and Daniel welcomed us to our room but offered breakfast and an upgraded room with the river view for a small Fee, which we gladly paid. We loved the Hansel room with green vintage decor and air conditioner. We were greeted by a beautiful sunrise daily with fresh breakfast right on the river. All staff was caring and attentive. The hotel is clean and has an open air concept for the shared spaces. This hotel was very cute, chic, and reasonable! It's not going to be one of your extravagant resort hotels, but it was big enough for our needs. The room was beautiful, big, and clean! They were very quick to accommodate our needs and made sure we had all of the things we needed. Every room has a European theme/decor, we stayed in the "Duke" room which was stairs down to the lobby, offered us a balcony with a view to the river, and our own private entrance to our room. They do offer breakfast and have a pool on their other hotel lot (which is being remodeled/updated) which we were walked to (it has a gorgeous view of the mountains/city from the jacuzzi). The hotel isn't a far walk from various stores/food/ pharmacies/boardwalk. We would definitely stay here again! Can't wait to come back :) read more

By far, one of my favorite places that I have stayed. I stayed here, with my partner, for 3 nights. From the first moment of our arrival, until the last moment as we departed, the staff were absolutely phenomenal! The level of professionalism, hospitality, and genuine kindness that the staff here provided is unmatched by anyplace else. Aside from the stellar staff working here, the hotel itself is truly a hidden gem. When walking by, you could hardly tell it's a hotel because the main entrance is two large garage doors. But once inside, you are transported to a beauitful oasis. The pool is a good, intimate size. The colors and art all around the house transport you to all of your best happy places. The rooms are all unique and lovely. The breakfast menu is simple, but has something for most everyone. Right next door is an adorable lounge/theater/restuarant with great food and entertaining shows and performances every night. The location is great! It's a few blocks tucked back from the beach, so it is quiet. Yet it is still close enough that a short walk through different little shops and kiosks will put you right out on the water. Definitely worth checking out. I will absolutely be staying here again when I come back to further experience and explore the gorgeous Puerto Vallarta! read more

Perfection....not much more to add. But just in case you need more convincing, it was amazing from check in to check out. We were met with margaritas and guacamole and chips...and even a cool washcloth.....but best was the service provided throughout our stay. The beds were incredible, the room beautiful, and breakfast by the side of the river is not to be missed. This location is perfect....just a short walk over a bridge to the island for more food and drinks, five blocks to the beach and the Malecon, easily walkable to the downtown core for more art and the Old Church, but the Old Town location is perfect for some of the best food around; fish tacos at Mariscos Cisneros and rotisserie chicken/potatoes/salsa and fresh tortillas from el Puchegon. Always we'd end up by the pool with margaritas in hand in the afternoon. Boutique hotel with every room different...most with balconies! Hot tub by the river AND pool side bar.....you really can't ask for more. read more

We recently stayed for two weeks at Garlands. Staff were amazing, especially Marta and the lovely Luce who was always smiling at breakfast 54 steps to room Antoine on the top floor was at times a bit tough, but enjoyed watching the parrotlets and iguanas in the treetops. The pool was nice, and we had access to the rooftop infinity pool and bar at sister hotel Rivera...fantastic (thank you Jerry). Everything nice and clean. Room selection is important here. The room I apparently booked (named "Federico") was a dump of a room. Honestly - it ruined my afternoon figuring out how to escape it. It should not be a room for a paying guest. The only natural light comes from sliding glass doors that open to a stairwell where other guests pass by frequently and can just walk into your room. The room smelled of mist and mildew. Opening the door (where everyone walks by) is the only solution. The room is also adjacent to the office, the dining room, the courtyard, and said stairs. The noise level was intolerable - almost all the time. The bathroom was dark, oddly lit, and poorly tended. In the end, I walked out and found a room elsewhere - with both better accommodation and a wonderful staff. read more

Wanted to make sure I wrote this review before too much time passed! Wanted to give a big thank you to all the staff at Garlands del Río for making our stay so wonderful and stress free, especially Marta!Originally our stay was 4 days but we decided to extend our stay an extra 3 days and they were able to accommodate us in our same room. Which by the way was one of the best in the house with a huge private patio and the biggest shower I have ever been in!!! It was perfect! We spent our time exploring PV and having fun meeting new people. Then when it came to returning back to the States they arranged our COVID antigen test the day before our flight and a taxi to the airport. Long story short we got caught up at the airport with a bunch of cancelled flights and rather then continue to get bumped we extended our stay another 3 days and Marta was able to accommodate us again in our same room for that night and then we only had to move to a room just below for the next two nights, which made that whole ordeal at the airport distant memory. We enjoyed how small and quaint this little tucked away escape is from the rest of the comings and goings in that neighborhood. Having the river literally outside our windows enjoying the wildlife including some large iguanas! The breakfast service was simple and delicious; and if you are thirsty just hop down to the honor bar by the pool. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for not the usual big resort style place. read more

My fiancé and I stayed at Garlands Del Rio for about two nights. We arrived late in the evening and could not find the hotel because we were looking for a large sign. After going around the block for 30 minutes we received a call from the hotel and found out we were right in front of it! It was dark so we could not see the name of the hotel painted on the wall. Someone looking for the hotel at night would need to look for two large garage doors painted in black (see picture.) At first we were a bit worried since it was dark and hard to determine if the area was nice, but after taking a look at the room assigned to us and speaking to the gentleman who met us we were so relieved! This boutique hotel is absolutely amazing! After getting a short tour of the facility our host provided us with welcome margaritas, guacamole and chips! Our room was huge and the bed was super comfortable!! Behind the hotel was a river and the sound of running water made the experience both romantic and tranquil. I highly recommend staying at Garlands Del Rio, it's not your typical hotel. It pulls both antiquated infrastructure and modern ambiance into a perfectly unique boutique hotel experience for those looking for a relaxing getaway. read more

It would be easy to walk right past this little gem, with its subtle little gate next to the coffee shop, but once inside you're in for a treat. Marta was a delightful hostess, even arranging a coffee maker for us so we could have coffee in our room. My husband and I stayed in the Marquess Penthouse, which was spacious, bright, eclectic and very private at the top of quite a number of stairs. The A/C worked wonderfully, the large bathroom had a fabulous shower, but best of all was that you could open the heavy beveled-glass windows at night and enjoy terrific evening breezes. Breakfast on the river gives you a feeling of being out of the hustle of the city, despite the fact that a lot of post-storm construction is taking place nearby. The place is quaint and over-the-top hospitable. It's location right on the river is convenient to great places to eat and only a short walk to the Malecon. We loved, loved, loved it and would stay here again when in Puerto Vallarta. read more

Super cute hotel for a great price! We decided to stay in town another night and found this hidden gem on hotels.com. Upon arrival, a very friendly gentleman by the name of Israel assisted us with checking in. He provided us with complimentary margaritas and chips & guacamole (super bomb)! He also provided us a map of the area and went over some recommendations. They have a "honest bar" which is a self-serving. The offer soda, water, beer and alcohol. Anything you drink you write it down on a notebook that's on the bar and concierge will charge it to your room upon check out. Our suite was the Duke and let me tell you... i thought I was in a music video walking up to our room! Has some stairs but the room is totally worth it. Our room was spacious with a view from the balcony to the river and a walk-in bathroom. Totally coming back here!!! read more

Don't let the outside fool you, once you cross the threshold you are immediately transported into an artful and fanciful place of fun and relaxation. The vivid colors, relaxing sound of the pool's waterfall, and playful artwork draw you into vacation mode immediately. A hidden gem in the city of Puerto Vallarta amidst the historical part of the city. The hotel is hidden from the outside by a protective door on one side, and a secret gate on the other. We were met by the concierge, Rigo, who was extremely professional and sat us down with drinks, chips and guacamole, and a map of the city. He provided excellent recommendations for food and local activities. Breakfast was delicious, particularly the huevos rancheros. The rooms all have local character and charm, with all the essentials including fresh filtered water, safe, and amenities. If you are looking for a fancy American-style beachfront expensive hotel, this is not the hotel for you. If you are a person that can appreciate local charm, if you enjoy the character of staying in a hundred-year-old building, then you may truly enjoy the experience of staying here. All the guests are friendly and welcoming- there is an open floor plan with a pool, lobby with couches, and a jacuzzi near the river. Very easy to meet new people and get recommendations from other tourists about what to do/ where to go. All staff members were helpful and hospitable. Israel helped us coordinate renting a car, Alex helped with our bags, Lily, Ophelia and Ana make delicious food. The only side note I have is about the rooms overlooking the river. We stayed in the Ariel room which has a small balcony and a beautiful view. There is a restaurant across the river which plays jazz music starting as early as 7 am. This was fine with us, as we love music. Just something to be prepared for. Something that I was concerned about was its location and how safe the neighborhood would be. I can assure you, that the hotel is in a good part of town. We didn't have any safety issues staying here or walking around the area. The hotel is secure in all aspects. This boutique hotel not only exceeded my expectations, but I left feeling so overwhelmed with peace and tranquility and with lifetime of fun memories that I will forever cherish! Upon entering this unique hotel, you are warmly greeted by their friendly staff. Due to Covid, I was highly anxious to travel anywhere but needed a getaway. What was even more delightful was that this hotel takes every precaution to make sure their guests feel safe and protected from Covid. My room was meticulously designed. Ornate and beautiful and VERY CLEAN! Masks were worn by all hotel staff and guests. Hand sanitizers, masks and wipes were also provided, which was appreciated. Waking up to river views and the calming sounds of the streaming water and the smell of their rich, fresh coffee brewing made every morning magical and had me feeling invigorated to start my day! We stayed six nights at Garlands. We felt welcomed from the moment we got there. They arranged for our transportation to the airport, and from that point on the staff took care of our every need. The beds are comfortable and the breakfasts are delicious. What we liked most about Garlands was the atmosphere and the beautiful artwork throughout the grounds. The pool was very nice, too. Garlands del Rio is itself a reason to come to Puerto Vallarta. My boyfriend and I stayed a night in their King Room, which was surprisingly economical considering the luxury feel. (I wouldn't be surprised if prices increased since - the hotel is definitely on the rise.) The room was extremely cute, comfortable, air-conditioned, and with the added bonus of a private outdoor patio! From the loud moaning we heard from one of the upstairs room, I take it that many people are satisfied by their stay at Garlands del Rio. The front door is a bit hard to find, but luckily a woman outside helped us out. Walking in, with the heavy doors blocking street noise, was like entering another world. I had booked the room last minute and told my boyfriend that we were staying in some cramped hostel, so his reaction to this swanky (but cozy) BnB was well worth it. We didn't know what to do first: jump in the gorgeous pool, sun on the lounge chairs, float in the innertubes, get a drink at the quirky bar? The concierge (forgot his name, but I will edit this once I find out - he was awesome!!) led us inside and immediately handed us cold wet towels (really nice touch, as it was steamy outside), then went off to get us fresh guacamole, chips, and amazing margaritas that he made himself. He also brought us a map and recommended various eateries and attractions in the vicinity, circling places we had expressed interest in and even adding in a few based on our feedback. Hospitality: A+++. He then walked us around the grounds, showing us the kitchen (that we didn't use, but could have - we DID get free buffet breakfast the next morning though) and the backyard (complete with a swing chair, HOT TUB!, river access, and the melodic sounds of the jazz bar across the river). We dropped our things in our ground-floor room and then moved to the pool deck to snack and use the fast Wi-Fi. After a while, my boyfriend went for a swim while I did some work (on vacation - sigh - but in such a beautiful spot it wasn't too bad), then showered in the adorable bathroom and went to El Repollo Rojo, another excellent recommendation by the concierge. Checking out the next morning was such a bummer - the staff, the location, and the hotel on a whole made for a relaxing and memorable final night in Mexico, and I'm sure I'll be back next time I'm in PVR. The rooms were eccletictic and uniquely different from each other. No two are the same. The pool is in a quiet atrium while the hot tub overlooks the river. My sister and I decided to spend two nights in Puerto Vallarta before going north to Punta Mita. It was our first stay at Garlands Del Rio. It is a small intimate colorful hotel converted from a home. It is well located within walking distance to shopping, dining, and the beach. Part of the charm is the way it is tucked away right in town by the river. We were greeted and hosted by charming managers, Rodrigo, and Diego. We were served margaritas, chips and guacamole. (and continental breakfast is included). They have an honor bar on the patio for after hours. We took advantage of many of their recommendations which were spot on. (including the room service dinner provided by nearby restaurant -chile rellenos) The room was funky and colorful, and private. read more
