First off, the wife of the couple that owns the place was extremely rude and snappy to both us and their own employees. Secondly, some of the flowers were kind of old and ungainly. Honestly, I wouldn't ever go there again. When I asked the wife of the couple a few questions about why some of the flowers looked old and ungainly, she basically gave me the same unfriendly treatment as Louise F. complains about. The husband chimed in that they had received them fresh earlier that day. I know this is untrue because I'd first seen them a few days prior. There's no shortage of friendly, honest shops in town. The flowers are beautiful at this florist but I cannot recommend that you give them your business. The owner of the shop is unbearable to customers and, as I've overheard directly many times, abusive to her employees. Either she didn't know that I could hear her or she didn't care, but she has berated them every time I've been in. I finally could not bear it anymore and have begun to get my flowers elsewhere. I have never heard anyone be so truly hateful to her employees, even in movie parodies. She clearly is unstable. So, buyer beware. read more

This florist used to be amazing, but those days are over. In anticipation of Mothers Day, I ordered my usual bouquet. When I arrived to pick them up, one of the blossoms was clearly old and dying. It had brown edges and looked very limp. Given that there was no way I was going to give my mother dead flowers on Mother's Day, I asked them to fix it. The lady helping me was nice about it at first (although she never apologized or looked ashamed about trying to pass off the mangy flowers off on me). But another woman came out of the back and told her to charge me extra for it. I was shocked, and had to argue against it. In the end, they swapped out the flower, but lost a customer. I'll be heading over to Granville Island or Angela and Gabriel's to get my bouquets from now on. read more

The staff contacted me to arrange a delivery time that would work best for my schedule - they were flexible in accommodating the little amount of time I had, which I appreciated. On Thanksgiving Sunday I was looking to buy a nice arrangement of flowers to take to host for dinner. I stopped in at Garkands. They had some nice little pumpkin arrangements. On ckoser inspection a few of the large yellow marigolds were beginning to fade and were loosem and slightly discoloured. I asked if they had any inside hoping to drop 60 on 8 flowers in a pumpkin but wanting them to look alive and fresh. The woman said "no" in a harried tone. I mentioned politely thT so e if the flowers in the ones outside were "iffy" When asked what I meant, I told them some of the flowers were kind of past it. The male florist said " thats impossible we just made them " the woman said Bring them in sso i can look. I went iut got two and miraculously another woman was behind the counter. I tokd her and showed her. Her reply" no this is natural colour" " brown"i said? No offer to replace the 5 cent past it flowers lots of incredulity . i garden i know past it when i see it! Anyway I went across the street and down 2 blks where I was met with courtesy and more 50+$ pumpkin/ gourd arrangements. So..I bought it there. Sadly they didnt have the funny halloween napkins garland had to sell but after the scoffy snorts and poor customer service, i pit my 4 packs of napkins and the 50+$ pumpkin back outside at 430...pm. I would have spent close to 100 if they had been even remotely helpful or couteous..ah well their loss!! My sister loved her rustic floral gourd! read more

The flowers are fresh. The selection is one of the best in town. There is an extremely talented "artist" in here by the name of Tatiana who creates the most spectacular bouquets. She is one of the best in town. Trust me on this if you want something special. Sadly, what one reviewer previously wrote is all too true. The owner really needs to take the stick out of her bottom. Her demeanor to both customers and staff is unfortunate. She should really consider this in terms of how it affects her clients, loss of clients and the people that work with her. I've been on the hunt for rainbow roses and they didn't have any, however, the lady whom I assumed owned the shop informed me that I could order them and it would arrive in a timely manner. She was a lot more helpful in my response to rainbow flowers than some of the other florists that I've talked to this week. She was busy with a couple who were getting wedding floral advice, therefore, kept it short and simple. If the reviews are true on the treatment of employees than I feel a little uncomfortable coming back, hopefully this is not true 'cause I've been on the other side and it is not fun. read more

Garlands Florist is my go to choice for flowers, plants and gifts. I can easily pop in and give a short list of things I like (or what the recipient likes) and I have never been disappointed with the creation. The owners are very dedicated and put their heart and soul into this family run business, and it shows. Just look into their shop and you can see everything has been carefully chosen to give a wide variety of interesting things for gifts as well as arrangements. I have bought beautiful perfume for myself, witty cocktail napkins and lovely journals. It's a one stop shop for any special occasion. I cannot recommend Garlands enough, trust me this unique shop has a cult following for their creative and beautiful designs, and their clientele is very loyal. read more

When I brought over three vases to Garland Florist and asked them to create three festive and modern bouquets for Chinese New Year, they did just that!! They even had it really by the promised time. Picked up a super cute and creative arrangement in a vase to take to family. Coloured rocks in the vase and decorative leaves and pink hoops (hard to describe) made it noticeably unique. Price was reasonable (vase included $39). Staff were very helpful even though I wasn't spending much. Will go again for sure. read more

I am writing this review after giving Garland's a chance to redeem themselves. Last year I phone Garland's a week in advance of my wife's birthday to have a bouquet delivered to her office. The only reason I selected this florist is because it is her favorite. Well my order was not delivered on the Friday of her birthday, because although the incompetent person that had taken my order had written down Friday he had written down the wrong date. When I phoned to complain the Manager and/or Owner offered to deliver them on Monday or offer us 25% off at another time. I was happy to receive such a quick call back but this was not a gerat resolve. Well this year I ordered again and had my order taken by what I thought was the same individual from before, I asked for a romatic summer bouquet for her birthday. What they sent her looks like something from a harvest fest. I would never use Garland's again! Try Flower Factory on Main they are very good. read more

Not having much experience with florists, this has been my go-to place a few times, out of sheer convenience. The staff has always been courteous and helpful. My last experience was a bit strange though. I brought in my sickly orchid that had dropped its leaves, and was hoping for some advice and possibly a replanting into a bigger pot. An employee swept the pot out of my hands and said "no problem, we can replace it". Not knowing quite what was meant by that, I followed her faithfully to the "only" other white orchids in the store. I made my choice and was short after presented with a MASSIVE orchid in my little pot. Like a stunned dear I paid my $50+ and made my way home. Once I placed the orchid in my tiny flat, I realized that this was nonsense, grabbed the giant plant, and headed back to Garlands Florist, where I spied a much smaller and suitable (and white!) orchid peeping at me from a corner. The florists was kind enough about it, switched out the orchids, and I "saved" myself $20. That evening I realized that my leafless, yet still very much alive, original orchid was still at the flower shop, and as it was a gift from a dear friend, I still wanted to keep it, leaves or no leaves. I left a message on their answering machine as it was after hours, but did not receive a call back the next day, and upon finally calling them back myself, was told the orchid was no longer there, and that was that. A fairly disappointing and discouraging experience, and now realizing what orchids cost elsewhere, probably won't be returning here. read more

I would actually rate this as a negative 10. I had the misfortune to use this flower shop due to the reviews at Groupon. I followed all the directions for the Groupon restrictions. I went to get my "bouquet" of flowers, and asked the "florists" for customer service, they refused saying they were too busy, even though there was one who was just standing doing nothing! She then proceeded to help a male customer who walked in 15 min after I did!! After a bit of an argument; (and really why should I have to do that? If I had not already paid my Groupon coupon, I would have walked out the minute they refused service;) they grudgingly decided to "help" me! In the end, the product they "created" for me was mediocre. A bunch of flowers that were tied together with raffia and lots of leaves. The bouquets at Safeway are actually better than this "florist shop. " I had to pay an EXTRA $40, so the "bouquet" ended up costing me even more than had I paid original price without discount. This bouquet had a total of SEVEN flowers!!! BUT LOTS OF LEAVES, SOME ROTTEN. Save your money. Unless you want to pay for rude customer service - (I guess anyone can call themselves a florist if they are working at the flower shop?) and overpriced flowers (mine were not even fresh!) Some of the flowers maybe very amazing beautiful and tempting to buy but I will certainly not recommend anyone to buy from this shop. I bought a bouquet of flowers for my friend who loves flowers and has the knowledge how to treat flowers well. When I bought I noticed two roses were clearly old and asked them to replace these. Which they did. Apparently the following morning my friend notice that all the flowers were already dead, only the green leaves, fillers for the bouquet, were left over. I went to the shop and told them about the flowers. The answer is they cannot to anything about it because I did not come with the bouquet back to them. I told them it was a gift so I do not have them any longer. Well too bad they say nothing they can do. No excuse, No shameful feeling for selling a bunch of old flowers. I told them that I can buy a bunch of flowers for less than one third of the price elsewhere and these will last much longer. My reason for going to this shop was because I thought to buy a nice fresh bunch of flowers. After long fight they gave me miserable 2 roses and an other flower and send me out of the shop. I will never spend any single penny in this shop ever again and will recommend them to nobody. read more

I have noticed many comments on here about the management. My fiance and I went in today to ask about floral arrangements for our winter wedding. The woman at the front counter was very unfriendly and unhelpful. She told us that they were only available to consult on Tuesday and Saturdays, which conflicts with our work schedules. She didn't seem overly keen to do anything for us and we asked if it was possible to meet on Sundays and she replied that it wasn't convenient for them. I will not return there and will definitely not be recommending them in the future. Sure put a damper on the wedding planning!! read more

In hopes of giving a house warming gift, I wanted to buy a flower arrangement but none of their arrangements looked fresh. I selected the best of the lot which had a centrepiece rose. The rose looked old and black along the edges of the petals. I asked if they could replace the rose and the woman behind the counter said "it's fine, it was made yesterday." The woman told me to pull off the blackened petals to make it look okay, to which I told her that if she did could make it look presentable I would buy it. She refused to and just kept saying it was made yesterday. I ended up walking away and not purchasing anything. I had given her a chance to replace the rose or at the very least pluck away the blackened petals. Instead, she lost the sale. Garlands used to be my favourite florist. In the past they would have happily freshened the flowers. Recently my friend bought an arrangement there for me and it died within 2 days. They aren't interested in making fresh arrangements or keeping their customers happy, and I'm never going back. read more

So very disappointed with the flowers ordered for graduation. Paid over $50 for a corsage and boutonniere and did not receive at all what was expected. The boutonniere was to be a single flower and ended up looking more like a ladies corsage, they said they didn't have the correct size flower so just decided to make it with a couple of smaller flowers of the same type, and then added way too much greenery of more that one type - effect was not at all classy especially since they wrapped the outside with wire, normally the wire should be under a green wrap - whole effect was very poor. The corsage was even worse. The flowers were again not as selected and the were already starting to wilt and go brown at pick up. Both items were sitting out on the counter when we arrived and not refrigerated as they had said they would be. Worst of all was the service at pick up. When I politely pointed out the problems and ask what they could do they said there was nothing they could do. I should not have prepaid or perhaps they would have tried to be more service oriented. Please don't waste your money at this shop, you won't be happy. read more
