Almost always a busy line here and at the other ORD location. Had 5+ hours to kill due to flight delay, and took advantage of a short line to get some cheese popcorn to bring home. Luckily they just brought out a new batch. They package it well with a wax paper bag inside a brown paper bag. We ate some the next day (really good) and the day after that (still good). Kids loved it, and it's a classic thing to bring back from Chicago. The caramel popcorn is also good but quite sweet, so normally I stick to the cheese flavor. But, I absolutely love dark chocolate and Garrett really knows how to create these tasty treats. The popcorn tastes so fresh and flavorful. I brought some back for family and friends. It was a hit! Maybe it's because the cheese and caramel popcorn reminds me of eating cheese puffs and dulce de leche glaze with oodles of butter at the same time. This mix has nicely distributed caramel coated pecans throughout the mix. To me, this mix is Praline with a cap "P"..... but pralines made well. I love this version because while it's sweet, it's not New Orleans SWEET. Terrible experience at O'Hare. Asked for a taste of some new flavors they were promoting and they refused. So we then chose the low risk boring buttery flavor since plain was not an option. It was more like butter with some popcorn added all for $11 bucks. We needed a shower afterwards and probably should schedule an appointment with our cardiologist. I am a Garrett's Super Fan. I have never been to Chicago but I tried this popcorny goodness in the Miracle Mile Shops in Las Vegas. After becoming hooked, I vowed to one day visit a Chicago store at one point in my lifetime. When learning that I had a layover in ORD, I frantically went to Yelp to see if there was a beloved Garrett shop in the airport. And yes, I found that it was...and in my terminal. I thought the universe had shifted in my favor of making my dreams come true. Not so much. The Good: Easy access to Garrett's. Conveniently located in the American Airlines terminal. Service was great and the line moved fast. The Bad: The popcorn! I purchased one medium bag of Chicago Mix and two small bags of the Caramel Nut (pecan) mix. The popcorn was not that great. The cheese popcorn tasted stale. The caramel was a bit hard. I went 30 minutes before closing which could be why it tasted old. The Ugly: My disappointment. I am from out of town and every time I come to Chicago a must have is Garrett's Popcorn and particularly the Chicago Mix with caramel and cheese popcorn. The salty and sweet combination is sooooo good and addictive! The airport location is perfect for grabbing some on the way back home without needing to carry it from the hotel to the airport. It is located after check in and there is often a line but it moves very quickly. They pack the popcorn in wax paper and then put it into a sealed paper bag and then into a plastic carry bag so it is easy to transport onto the plane. Yum! read more

A loyal Garrett's popcorn customer for 35 years, I was most disappointed in my purchase today. A "large" bag of cheese popcorn was $10 at O'Hare Airport. I watched as the bin was filled in the back room area, popcorn dumped from a large plastic bag. I was taken aback because I thought their product was "handmade fresh daily", but thought maybe it was made earlier. From my first visit to Garrett's years ago I waited on a long line on Michigan Avenue and foolishly brought some home to my sons. Well I learned than that it doesn't keep. Still love this indigenous treat when in Chicago. This last visit unfortunately I wasn't stay close to their nearest location in the City. No worries they have a store in Chicago O'Hare Airport. So I arrive to the airport early and have lunch but save room for dessert. Than I get in line at this Garrett's location. That's right it's like you are at any of their other stores there is a long line. Lucky for me I got to watch them make it on site as well as fill in the bins In between customers. It's like they can't make it quick enough. Anyway on line I meet this Local who tells me to get the one with Pecans. Well when it was my turn I got a free sample first than was sold. Me and my colleagues each got a small bag. The price is actually very reasonable under $5 each. There is so much that we can't even finish. So I roll the bag up tight and the next day luckily I finished before it got soggy and stale. read more

I did, and she was right. My only regret was that I got a taste of it, and like a fiend, now it's all I can think about. Also, I gained 2 waist sizes halfway through the bag, or at least it felt like it. I got the Garrett Mix, which was Caramel and Cheese mixed together. If you're thinking: "woah, Brett N, caramel and cheese mixed together?! I don't like to mix my sweet and my salty, you crazy guy!" We bought it in downtown Chicago in the theater area near our hotel I got a jumbo bag and two medium bags unfortunately all of the same thing. Only to find out that the cheesy popcorn totally Reese's out the whole thing and makes it a disgusting wet mess. I went to the airport with the receipt to see if they could exchange it for just regular popcorn or caramel popcorn and forget that nasty Chicago mix. But they said I had to go back to the location that I bought it from. Obviously I'm flying out and we're away from the Chicago location so that wasn't an option. I never make it taste as good as Garrett.... Strolling through O'hare from terminal H to terminal G. I smell the goodness of popcorn lingering in and meandering through the air some distance away. I wonder, "Could this scent be attributed to Garrett? I am in Chicago after all..." I continue to walk through the central point where all (I may be exaggerating and its just SOME terminals) meet. G meets H, and K and right in this meeting point sits Garrett's popcorn. I am not sure there is anything on this planet that could have made me skip making a beeline straight to the line in front of the small store front. The line was long... but efficient, actually, it was quick. A young server took my order well before I got to the register to pay. I knew before I walked over that I would order a Small Garrett mix. Was at terminal 2 with and hour to kill and walked over to get popcorn for the flight attendants on our flight to Sidney, a bribe goes a long way! Anyway I got in line at 3:35pm and it hardly moved at all. After 20 mins me and the gentlemen waiting in line wondered if we would even get through it. We saw at least 6 to 8 people bail from various points in the line during our time waiting, I thought I was going to have bail as well once it reached past 4pm, because there were still several people a head of me and the line was not moving. The people working the counter were the slowest people I have ever witnessed! This place is missing out on money and people are walking away pissed off after waiting in line forever. I've been to other locations and the my hustle and get through the line. If I was a secret shopper I would recommend the whole crew to be replaced with competent workers who value customers and service. Maybe Garret's doesn't care because they make enough money, however, if I was an owner in the company I would have been outraged at how poorly this location is run. Just ridiculous!!! A bit after 4 pm I was ready to walk away when someone let me go before them, I spent $45. Just think if each person who walked away was spending that much or more, that's a lot of popcorn sales. It's a shame that people didn't get their popcorn because they waited 30+ mins watching 2 girls working as slow as molasses and 3 people in back talking and working very slow. You're on your way to the gate on your way home from Chicago and you forget to grab souvenir for your family at home. Garrett's at O'Hare International Airport is here to save you. Garrett Popcorn is a Chicago tradition, and while you may think popcorn isn't anything special, and speaking from myself, I never could really tell the difference between grocery store popcorn or fresh popcorn or whatever, Garrett is here to change your preconceived notions. The popcorn is just that good, and the premium price is worth it. While they have shops littered all across Chicago, you can expect to find a long line, especially during weekends and peak hours. This is also definitely the case for the one in O'Hare, especially if you're traveling during peak hours (the Thursday flight home, anyone?). I had to wait a quick 30 minutes right before the flight back home on a Thursday, where you had pretty much all businesspeople flying out at the same time, and I thought that was rather fair. Not the quick pick up and go that you get when you head to the Las Vegas location, but much quicker than the downtown Chicago locations. If you're looking for a quick snack to munch on before you head back home or want to bring a little tin as a souvenir, Garrett's is definitely worth checking out. TIP: Go for the Garrett Mix.
