Our group showed up at 7:10 PM, but we weren't seated until 7:35. No problem on OUR part, but the bossy lady told our waitress (who was new but did a GREAT job) "concentrate on taking their orders, we CLOSE AT 8!" The food arrived about 10 minutes later, and it was all obviously just reheated (MICROWAVED) crap! At 8 o'clock sharp, the bossy lady ordered the kitchen staff to shut down and clean up because "WE'RE CLOSED!" Even though they were closed, they did not turn off their sign or lock their door, so two unsuspecting people tried to enter at about 8:05 at which time the bossy lady admonished them: "WE CLOSED AT 8!," sending the couple scampering out the door! The nine of us in our group ate as fast as we could under the constant glare of the bossy woman, then I paid our $250.00 bill and we left (I guess the bossy lady doesn't appreciate big checks!) Anyway, even though the food was so bad, based upon other reviews about their "great" breakfasts, we foolishly returned in the morning for breakfast. I ordered the Belgium Waffle which should be called the Belgium AWFUL, because it was terrible. Three frozen waffles from a box covered in frozen strawberries (fresh are available this time of year!) which were themselves smeared with Cool Whip (or maybe it was Miracle Whip, I can't be sure!?) This is my boyfriend and I's favorite breakfast spot in town. The food is so good and is priced so well! We can get two meals and coffee for 25 bucks! They have so many options to choose from. The waitresses are always so kind and quick to get your food out, even when they are packed. They are usually VERY busy but the wait is never too long. The inside is very cozy and cabin like. My husband and I went for dinner while visiting the area on vacation. Many locals were eating. Our waitress Jen was friendly and our food came out quickly. My husband got the perch and liked it. I got beef noodle soup which was like my homemade soups and a salad with chicken on it. The chicken was seasoned well although the lettuce was iceberg only and it couldn't have use a bit of romaine. We shared a blueberry pie alamode and it was delicious. We chatted with two ladies eating across from us about the local wildlife. My husband mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary. The ladies told us about their departed husbands and left. We didn't know it but they paid our bill. Small town charmed can resort your faith in human nature. This is the worse food!! I ordered baby back ribs and they were so fatty and the bones were huge. NOT baby back! I sent them back. We go to Garrett's every time we're up north, which is at least 1-2 times a month year round. We haven't had a single thing that we didn't love. Good home cooking, always fresh, always hot. The wait staff is great, friendly, and quick to serve and refill. Eggs benedict is different than expected but I tried it first a couple years ago and now I get it all the time for breakfast. My husband always gets whatever the special is, and always loves it. The burgers are great - our kids have gotten them numerous times. Different soups at different times of year, always terrific! I had the patty melt and onion rings and it was ok. Wife had the meatloaf sandwich with mashed potatoes. She could barely eat hers. Meatloaf had an odd appearance and texture, did not appear to be homemade with real burger. Mashed potatoes were questionable as well. We've ate here before and food was ok and service is fine. Came with a group of 7 on Sunday after a weekend of swimming and beer. We waited about half an hour for a table. Surprisingly quick, considering how small the place is. The hostess and waitresses were all incredibly nice and kept us updated on when our table would be ready I tried to order Chicken and Biscuits, but unfortunately they were out. The waitress apologized a lot, and I ordered country fried steak instead. I got a free bowl of coleslaw out of it- a little sweet, but fresh and tasty. I needed it. Let me tell you, I demolished that steak. It was flavorful, not dried out, with great breading. The sausage gravy was a fantastic complement. I could have used half a dollop more, but I didn't actually need it, good coverage. The hash browns on the side were perfectly cooked- crispy on the outside, salted well. It certainly hit the spot. Everyone else's meals were plentiful and I didn't hear any complaints. A grilled salmon salad ordered by one of my friends looked fantastic. The orange juice that I needed was boring and probably from a big plastic jug, but it helped me through the morning. We have drove from Harrison to Houghton just to have breakfast with good food and Tabitha is the nicest waitress you could ask for! The corn beef hash is the best we've ever had and always excited for the next time we get to visit. Tried them for lunch when we were there for the craft show last weekend and again the food was awesome! Tabitha wasn't there during that time and we should have gotten the name of our waitress because again nice as can be! Good omelets! Good service, reasonable prices. An "up north" diner with a brisk breakfast trade. Decor is up north "antler", but more tasteful than some. The wait staff really hustled, and by the time we finished our meal, there were lots of people waiting for a table. We would definitely return.
