We have been going to Mac's for about nine years now. We usually go for breakfast. Their food and wait staff are great. However, they have been raising their prices every year. So that is my reason for only 4 stars. We went there in January of this year for breakfast. My wife had a bacon and cheese omelette, I had a sausage and cheese omelette, both come with toast and hash browns. I also had a side of sausage gravy. I had coffee, my wife had a soda. The bill was $42, we left a $7 tip which brought our total to $49 for breakfast. They charge a 3% fee for debit or credit cards, that takes you to $50 for breakfast. I understand that food prices have been going up, along with the egg shortage due to the bird flu. However, the egg shortage is over, but the prices at Mac's haven't come down. During the shortage, eggs were $6 - $8 a dozen or more depending where you shopped. Today I can buy a case of 60 gage free large eggs at Wal Mart for $9.56, that's about $.016 per egg. The omelettes at Mac's are made with 3 eggs. So that's $0.48 for a 3 egg omelette plus the sausage and cheese. For $9.56, I can make 20-3 egg omelettes. Also, I'm sure restaurants pay less as they are buying their supplies in bulk. read more

All staff were very friendly and with real smiles on their faces. The food and service was spot on. I did my general review my breakfast but this was different. My eggs were cooked to order; the bacon was hot and exactly how I like it; & the dollar sized pancakes were thick and perfect. This is a smaller place and that size and the friendly people made this a place I will return to. read more

Unassuming local diner with good food and plenty of it. Although there was a line of people wait for a table when we arrived we were seated much quicker than I expected. I heard so many great things about this place and I was very disappointed when I finally got a chance to go out there to try. One the y messed up are breakfast so I couldn't eat it and didn't even offer to re-make when they seen I did not eat it. Not only that but are breakfast was $42.00 dollars for 2 omelets, the cokes were $7.49 a piece. What a absolute joke. I'm surprised they are still open. The place was also alittle dirty. I have been coming here for years everytime I am up at the cottage. The staff is always so friendly and the owner is great to chat with. My favorite here is the breakfast because the omelets are huge. But the dinners are also great with daily specials and amazing fried fish on Fridays. If you are in the area definitely check it out. Pretty average diner breakfast, could have been better in some regards. Coffee was bit weak; hash browns I asked for extra crispy were soggy. But, service was super quick--I don't think it took 3 minutes to get my order (eggs over easy w/ bacon/toast/'taters). The diner is broken up into a number of smaller rooms--I almost left just after walking in the door because it looked like the place was full, but then I stretched a bit and glimpsed another room with open seats. We stopped in for breakfast this morning on our way to Bigfoot Days here in West Branch. The place has that home feeling, the conversation was loud and everyone was enjoying themselves. The waitress came, coffee showed quickly and so did our order. The food was hot, there was a good amount for the cost and it was very good. All in all, it was enjoyable and well worth the price. When I feel like doing something special I visit Mac's Place. It has neve disappointed me! The food is well presented, in big guy portions (I am a big guy) and it is presented quickly! At times I wonder if they start it when they seem me comming but I seldom order the same thing twice. So that theory doesn't actually work, which tells me that Mac's Place is a step above all the rest. While I would like to see them open for dinner as well, the service, quanity and the wonderful ladies who always make sure you have what you need tells me that I am more than happy to accept the great prices, and wonderful service as more than enough value for the hard earned money spent there (actually I am retired so it is the hard earned money from the past!) but none the less, good food, great service and reasonable prices! The people were exceptionally nice, which makes me want to give them 5 stars. But I like to base my ratings on food which was a solid 4. The sausage gravy was quite tasty and the sausage links were well regarded by my husband and 1 1/2 year old son. The toast, hash browns and eggs were all pretty good. I like that they delivered an entire pot of coffee to the table so I didn't have to scour the joint to get a refill. With that, though, came no water refills which was a bummer. The menu has lunch stuff on it but everyone I saw was basically eating breakfast items so we followed suit. Stopped here while on the road. Walked in and some kid came up and said "We're full!" as we looked at two tables that just needed cleaned off. We noticed people eating on the patio and there were four empty tables out there so we asked about those. He said "Patios full too!". No offer for a wait time. This family owned diner is the perfect place to stop if you are passing through and are looking for a place to eat close to the highway. They have all your staples for breakfast, their food is good with good portions, the prices are reasonable, the diner is clean and the service is quick! We stopped through on our way home from Snowmobiling in Gaylord. We were looking for something quick but not fast food. Mac's had a lot of cars in front and wasn't far off from 75. We stopped in and were able to seat ourselves. The diner is old but everything is clean. They have huge omelets, pancakes, waffles, breakfast sandwiches and others breakfast entrees. They also have a lunch menu too. I'd say after putting in our order it was served to us in 5 minutes. Super Quick! For the four of us our total came to $30. I have given them many chances to improve the wait staff experience. It's always the same thing. I sit and wait to be greeted by the waitress to see what I would like, water, coffee, menu...... Then it never fails let men come in and she will be all over them. Then says to me "Oh did you want anything"? after I had sat there for 10 minutes before they showed up.My thoughts are yeah a waitress that wants to wait on every customer, not just men. Then the man I am meeting with shows up and she is all over him, he is a local person also. The coffee is nasty I mean really nasty. Their deep fried batter fish is so greasy I had to take a napkin to squeeze the grease out before eating. Then I just pulled the batter off. I have had others tell me they will not go back because the service is slow and food is greasy. The food was very good, no complaints about the food in any way. However, the service is a different story. After we received our food we never saw our server again. We chose to eat outside and after waiting for 15 minutes for the bill we decided to go inside to pay and our server was sitting inside on their phone. Additionally, all of the staff members were wearing masks incorrectly. Some had them pulled all the way down on their chin while others did not have the mask covering their nose. It only seems that Macs place gets better every year. Carrie and Terry work very hard and every time I am in this restaurant I am amazed at how busy they are. While you can get breakfast all day long, the Friday Fish fry is a must. Of course if you can try to get a seat at the table of knowledge. This is where local history is recounted on a daily basis. Stopped today for a late breakfast. We opted to eat outisde, as we're at high risk on the covid scale, and I was happy to see the tables were distanced and no one else was there. Surprised when the waitress came out without a mask, even more surprised when two guys walked in to the patio area and said they didn't want to go inside because of social distancing. She told them not to worry... they are over it and not adhering to the suggestions anymore. What the what? Is that even an option? The worst fried chicken meal EVER. Instant mashed potatoes and canned corn. The chicken was hard as plaster. The server was horrible. We left our plates full and took away our empty stomachs. Should have just driven by and thrown cash out of the window. Foul fowl! read more
