Incredibly helpful and great service all around. I've gone to them since I moved to the neighborhood in 2007. This is my go-to place for anything handy for sure. I've had duplicates of keys made, purchased an A/C from here and even got their help in installing it in the apartment, etc. They really go above and beyond in terms of being helpful to their customers. Plus, they don't try to cheat anyone. If they can help, they will! Ex. I had a small jewelry box that I needed to pry open recently. I'd lost the tiny key that came with it. I'd first just tried a locksmith that is slightly closer to my apartment and the guy practically quoted me the price of the box! He said that he needed to make a brand new key to be able to open it. Gartner's was willing to take a look right then and figured out an easy solution. Plus, he even opened it without destroying my box. He wouldn't even take any fee for it either when I asked what I should give him for helping me out. You don't find that level of kindness easily these days! read more

They are fast, friendly, and provide great service. I called to find out if they had high temperature silicone. I needed it to finish installing a thru-deck fitting for a stove chimney. This is something I am sure is not too common here in the city, especially on the UWS. Nonetheless they had it. They answered quickly and the person who answered was not sure if they had it but immediately checked. He also brought it to the counter since they were low on them. He checked quickly and provided good customer service by making sure it was the product I needed for my project. I should have come here first! I love this store. I went all over the place looking for lithium button batteries of a particular size. Only found them at one Duane Reade branch for $6.49 each. Here they were 4.99 each. Not dirt cheap but a helluva lot better than risking getting knock-off dead ones off Amazon. They seem to have everything here--I've always been able to get what I needed--tools, plastic tubing, copper wire, etc., and the people here really know their stuff and can help you--amazingly efficient to shop here. read more

This place sucks.....I went in there for help with bedbugs and they sold me some can of spray which everyone knows does NOT work....and it turned out it sprayed for 2 seconds and then stopped....I tried to return it and they gave me another can that I had to pay for....and that also only sprayed for 2 seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

This is the only place I could find (thanks Reddit!) which would copy a REALLY difficult key for me (I don't have the card). I've been trying to find a place that would even attempt this for 2 years. My landlord refuses to give me another copy without a huge fee. They were also super pleasant and said I could bring back for a full refund if they don't work. Well guess what, the copies work! This is place is awesome. The customer service is absolutely the best I have ever experienced. In addition, I went to Gartners to make 3 keys. Regular key was $2.50, one medco key was $5.00 and a Multi Lock Key with a card was $10 ( another place wanted to charge me $20). Lowe's could not make me the medco or the multi lock key so they recommended gartners I highly recommend Gartners read more

These guys have been in the neighborhood forever. They are the best. 3 years ago they fixed my halogen floor lamp. Yesterday the bulb burned out and I couldn't get the new one to work. Called them and they remembered the lamp (!) said "bring it in". They looked at it right away, made an adjustment, and it worked fine. 3 minutes, no charge. I love Gartners. read more
