I spoke to Bob at Garttmeyer and he told me to bring my daughters car in "this week is good". The next day he told us they couldn't even check it for 3 or 4 weeks. Then he say's "we can't work on your cars anymore'. I never had them work on my cars (and I'm glad I didn't). I was extremely polite to him and when I asked if I said something wrong he replied "It's not personal" Huh? They seem to be "two faced" but come off as "very nice". I would stay away from them. Tried these folks after my trusted Mercedes mechanic retired. Staff are friendly and attentive. Once car was worked on, I had two negative issues. They drew some conclusions about the car (separate from the targeted window switch repair) that were subsequently contradicted by four other mechanics. Not a big deal, but it didn't inspire confidence. Secondly, when I picked the car up, the newly repaired window didn't work. It was just a fuse, but it probably should have been addressed before they called me to pick up. Aside from those minor issues, repair was fairly priced and car was ready on time. These folks are obviously car enthusiasts, so it was a little disappointing that my experience was mediocre overall, but I don't think they will be my primary choice for a Mercedes mechanic going forward. read more

Good shop. Solid customer service makes getting a car repair smooth. The shop keeps its day efficient, and my every repair was completed well-within estimated time. (There are no days of extra waiting like at some other automotives.) The mechanic is skilled, very organized, and with operating specs offhand. In the process of making repairs to my car, parts [affixed shoddily and at a wrong angle(!) by a previous shop] were noted and corrected. I recommend this shop. read more

Do NOT use Garttmeyer's Automotive, had an issue with my car, and did not diagnose the issue properly and was not repaired. Told me my car was unsafe to drive, right engine bracket broken, which why I was hearing the noise. Going on vacation to the shore. Had them replace bracket, never received quote, since busy salon day. Got the message, replace bracket and why not inspect while car is here. Ok called in the morning, said that is fine. I googled the price for my BMW right engine bracket/ labor. About $500 ok. should have asked them the price, my fault. They charged me 927.00 and find cost of 130.00. Took the car to BMW, the noise was the rubber coming away from the windshield. BMW did not charge me a dime, looked at Garttmeyer's bill, ripped,off. Liars and rip off, will tell my clients about Gartmeyer's bad business dealings. read more

I bring all of my cars to Garttmeyer. They are very thorough and will explain exactly what is wrong with the car. They will show you the exact problem if you are interested. They won't look for things to fix that don't need fixing. The added bonus is that they are a lot cheaper than taking your car to the dealer. Highly recommended not just for fancy cars, but for ordinary vehicles as well. read more

I have been dealing with Jim and his team of expert mechanics for 10 years. You will not find a more trustworthy garage. My last issue was with my Audi A4 that happened to need ingition coills. Jim's staff checked and found that there was an open recall on the product...instead of fixing it an charging me (like every other garage) they sent me to the Audi dealership to have it replaced for free!!!! This is significant evidence that Jim cares about his customers. He knows that I will come back time and time again because I can trust him.. Questionable knowledge and motivation... The short story: I took my Mercedes SUV to Garttmeyer to replace/fix my brakes with the plan/goal of saving a little $ (relative to cost at your local dealership). In the end, not only did I spend more money but also my car was RETURNED TO ME IN WORSE CONDITION. I ultimately had to take it to the dealership anyways for final repairs. My overall experience with Garttmeyer was extremely disappointing and I do not recommend this place to anyone! The long story: Before taking the car to Garttmeyer, I never had a single problem with this car. However, I drove it less than 10 miles after my brakes were replaced and the "check engine" light came on. ...From the start, this seemed a little suspicious to me but I gave Garttmeyer the benefit of my doubt. After their diagnosis, I spent another $500 or so for them to replace the thermostat or something. After picking the car from that repair (after a full week in the shop), I noticed some unusual noises coming from under the hood. Like a fool, I took the car back and asked them to take a look. They spent time looking at the belts, pumps, and several other things, but could not diagnose the problem. One guy even tried to say it had something to do with the weather! ...I'm certainly not a car guy but I'm pretty sure the engine of a 4 yr old Mercedes shouldn't be making funny noises simply because of some cold weather. When I picked the car up this time, I drove it for less than 5 miles before I could hear the engine belts coming apart (slapping around under the hood). ...For me, that was the last straw. A few hours earlier the owner and head mechanic was telling me the belts looked good. After driving the car off the lot, the belts were coming apart! Thankfully I was able to get the car home safely but it was in no condition to drive. I had to pay to have it towed to the Mercedes dealer and paid over $1000 to have the belts fixed. ...A week later and I'm still waiting to hear back from Garttmeyer to explain how they're going to make this situation right. Moral of the story: You're better off taking your car to the dealer (or anywhere else for that matter) then taking it to Garttmeyer. The dealer fixed my car in a day, no hassle, had better hours, and they even provided me with a nice loaner car. read more

They tried charging my 20 something female friend ridiculous rates for a small fix, (charging $225 for a job that shouldn't cost more than $50--MAXIMUM). Luckily she was smart enough to consult with someone more familiar with automotive work, and was given a fair rate elsewhere. Buyer beware! read more

My wife works in Wayne. She has a 2002 Infiniti QX4 (over 100k). A couple of months ago, she got stranded there with an expensive cooling problem common to this engine (had been slightly leaking- my regular mechanic could not diagnose). After we settled on Garttmeyer (out of necessity more than anything), her boss gave the decision a thumbs up. He said their reputation was excellent around the area. I was very concerned about cost due to their Main Line location and specialization in high end and exotic vehicles. My fears were unfounded. I am glad folks with this expertise did this job. My regular mechanic farms stuff like this out to the dealer (did it with my father who had similar problem with his Caddy). While not cheap, the cost was well within reason. I don't think a mechanic down here in Drexel Hill would have charged me much less. I base this off one of my neighbors who had the same problem with his Ford Explorer. . She will be using them regularly from here on out as we like them and their capability, as well as their super convenient location (can drop off and walk to the office!). You can feel comfortable bringing any kind of vehicle here. I might even drop off my 1993 (over 200k ) Camry beater one of these days. Jim and the guys at Garttmeyer have good, friendly attitudes as well. They treated my wife beautifully. read more

The last time I need the car serviced, I only had one day to get an oil change done before I drove across the country. The staff made room for me on the schedule, fit me in, and sent me on my way with well wishes. Would very highly recommend service for any luxury or European automobile.
