I've been here a handful of times throughout the past year. It has the grungy gym rat vibe to it. Lots of free weights and muscle-y dudes doing muscle-y dude things. The staff are always friendly but come and go from the front desk so unless you're a regular you won't know who the staff are, because they don't seem to have a uniform or name tags. The facilities are decently clean for a gym, they have a few stations with spray bottles and paper towels but it's hit or miss whether or not there will actually be cleaner in them. Their equipment is a mixture of really old machines and updated modern equipment. It seems they are slowly upgrading their older equipment. They have a free weights section, a training area, kick boxing area and plenty of machines. Just don't come with super high expectations and you won't be disappointed.

I have been sent back and forth by the manager and the company contracted to collect their payments and no one seems to be able to cancel my membership. Today, my kid was turned away because the kids club was at capacity due to poor planning, crappy ratios and the staff's inability to look at the schedule, look at who's registered for classes, look at who in those classes has a kid's membership and go from there. When I raised concerns with the staff and front desk, I was met with attitude and told to call guest services if I need help. This was what Ivan said after he said "we can remove the service for you right here" before he doubled down and threw a card on the counter and told me to call guest services. Additionally, one of the inept employees in the kids club, misidentified me as the parent who cussed her out and was hostile. I wasn't hostile - I made a few faces and asked specific, pointed questions. Y'all can't handle it because you don't know how to work under pressure and weren't given talking points? Fine. Be mad then, sis. Don't care. So, Ivan wanted to play savior and "write my name down" so that he could "determine what to do." FOH. Don't get mad at me when I ask legitimate questions about your policies that are not posted. Further, when you elevate your voice, don't get mad at me when I do the same. I have never had a positive experience here with the management team. I have filed multiple complaints and addressed multiple concerns and have never been followed up with. Ever. I have already requested cancellation of both of my memberships, and a refund. This gym is a hot mess. The management team is terrible. Spare yourself. And they're anti-Black American. I've had multiple experiences that demonstrate that: -no acknowledgment of Juneteenth in similar ways as July 4, despite it being a majority Black club -prior to opening, the guy whose last name is Tillman spoke about the fact that they don't have a gym because "this is PG COUNTY and all the thugs would show up sagging" -ongoing interactions I've witnessed and experienced between myself and the management team

The coaches are all extremely knowledgeable and motivated. They made me feel welcomed and have been patient with me as I've been learning. I love that the members are a mix of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. The gym also offers more of a boot camp type class, kids classes, yoga, and other options. Why haven't you worked out here yet?…read more I'll be frank: SkipJack CrossFit is where it's at. If you want to be pushed to excel, get a killer workout, laugh your butt off with your fellow athletes and coaches, get that clean and jerk/snatch/deadlift/OHS PR, then turn around and do CF Striking where you get to burn off all that workday stress by punching and kicking heavy bags, then sign up! The coaching staff is awesome, patient, helpful and willing to help you on anything you want to work on (even if it's after closing time or on weekends). You can tell that they have fun coaching and that makes it easier on us who are learning all the CF movements/lifts. They also won't let you give up on yourself which has really helped me out. I've been going to SJCF for 8 months now and have put on approx 7-10lbs of muscle. I've also adopted a more positive image of myself as I break through mental and physical barriers every week. When I started CF, I don't think I could do 5 box jumps w/o getting winded (and I've always been a runner mind you!). Now I can do multiple rounds of them followed by a slew of burpees, then go run, flip a tire and do it all again. LADIES: You don't have to be ripped to work out here. GUYS: Same goes for you. SJCF scales all workouts to YOUR ability. Even some of our strongest atheletes have to scale workouts from time to time based on an old/new injuries and just 'being old.' The owner/instructor is very nice and welcoming. She thoroughly explained the positions and also offered modifications if needed. The hour seemed to go by so quickly because of the fun! I ended the session with purchasing lotus seeds and fresh squeezed juice (beet/pineapple/apple). She also offers other classes such as yoga and linedancing. I'm a big fan of linedancing so I'd like to take one of those classes as well.
