Hamburger steak with mashed/gravy and fried okra.

Friendly and efficient folks. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Packed drive-thru. Always a good sign.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Came at lunchtime. Seems "down home". Every time I visit the area, I'm tempted to try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Appears to be popular with the locals.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you're looking for a modern aesthetic and ambience, this might not be your place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] That doesn't matter to me. I consider that an extra. The food quality matters most. Not super slow or super fast. Order went in at 1:43 and it was in my hand by 1:57. So I wouldn't stop here if you're in a time crunch. Everything was good with one exception: not crazy about the gravy. There was a taste I can't put my finger on that didn't agree with my buds. Hamburger steak was fresh and topped with onions. Fried okra was hot and delicious! A stand out.

My chicken sandwich was on a diet. It only covered 1/2 the bun and was pounded down to nothing. What happened to this place?

This little joint is in town of North Augusta, thought I would try it because of mixed reviews. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is old when you walk in but that adds to the charm of the diner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]The lady at the counter was what you would expect at an old diner, she was cordial but not overly friendly which adds to the charm. This establishment has been open since 1984 so they have to be doing something right to be here for so long. Cheeseburgers are good. They say the breakfast is really good, it is worth a stop.

I ordered a hamburger on my lunch break. Got back to work to eat my lunch and my hamburger had a tomato on it which I said no tomatoes. Then when I bit my hamburger it was not cooked all the way though. I called back to tell the manager she said bring it back. So I said you want me to get it out the trash can and bring it back.

Was in Augusta on Saturday and saw that the Gary's Hamburgers was quite busy. We've never been but my husband is always on the hunt for the best hamburger and when a place has "hamburgers" in their name that should be what they do the best so we decided to try it out. Pros: The place was clean and the staff was super friendly. You could tell it was a locals place where they probably have a lot of repeat customers who get their go-to items. A lot of the reviews were not for the burgers and the outside signs referenced breakfast and biscuits, etc. The folks inside eating seemed to know what they wanted and were enjoying what they had. Cons: The hamburger combo was about $9.50. It was fine but similar to what you would get at a school cafeteria, e.g. frozen burger patties. There was nothing special about the burgers, fries or onion rings that would put Gary's on my list of go-to places for a burger fix.

1/3 lb burger combo (unsweet tea) - $12.95 with tax.

Went through the drive thru today and as normal food was spot on. Asked to move to the marked order waiting area. Food was brought out to me in a timely manner. Million ketchups and no napkins. But kicker was that I was charged 3.99% to use my credit card. When I asked the lady about it she told me everyone is doing it. That is not true and a bland statement. I am sure prepandemic Gary's wasn't doing it so why now ? It's the cost of business to take cards.

    Breakfast- Bacon, egg, cheese sandwich

Bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit and hash browns were great! Great and easy breakfast spot

Gary's Hamburgers is way more than a great burger. Gary's breakfast is amazing! Best biscuits and omelets in town. Highly recommend!

Great food, good prices, excellent staff. Has to be one of the best burgers in town. The wait vs quality is excellent.

Not bad at all- old fashioned hamburgers and better than 5guys. But they are limited in customizing.

Awesome set up. The line moved fast. But the food needs a LOT of work. Reminded me of bowling alley food.

Great burger! A little pricy and slow so don't consider this fast food. It is much better than fast food!

I was greeted after standing there for a min by Shulindra, she was kind, gave me some recommendations. I went with the Cajun Turkey BLT which came with fries. I wanted the green apple lemonade but they only had the blueberry and it was alright, basically Kool aid imo. They were out of a few things actually but that BLT wasn't anything to write home about. I honestly thought it was going to be a turkey bacon LT, not a BLT with turkey slices so I was a bit disappointed. The lettuce and tomato were really fresh but there was nothing Cajun about it. I ate every bite for the $16 I paid for it! The fries were pretty dry, similar to Popeyes.. I guess I'd go back to try other items.

Parking was its usual Broad Street challenge, yet once inside there was plenty of space and an easygoing rhythm to the dining room. The only real hiccup was the slightly counterintuitive flow of things, since you order first and then find a seat, and I wasn't the only one who walked in and paused awkwardly until someone pointed out the process. I've said for a while that you should stick to what a place is named for, because ordering chicken wings at a pizza shop or a barbecue joint has burned me more than once, but tonight I ignored that rule and it turned out to be the right call. Mrs. K took down my side of fries with enthusiasm while I focused on the wings, meaty and generously sauced, the kind you finish without a second thought and then sit back with a local beer feeling like you made exactly the right choice. Every single one was worth it, no regrets at all, a small delight tucked inside a busy Augusta evening. I did see two of those massively stacked burgers get delivered to another table and while I was a little jealous, I know that having it without the bun wouldn't have honored it the way it should be. Maybe when I'm not on keto. [Review 228 of 2026 - 928 in Georgia - 25417 overall]
