As I lean against the wall I start to hear what seems like a transistor radio in the distance. The sound grows heavier as it approaches. Soon it starts to sound like a heavy metal guitar track. I turn to look at the source of this Metallica-esque ballad and before my eyes I see something that to this day might be one of the greatest things I've ever seen. Keep in mind it's 4AM ON THURSDAY! I glance towards the street and there is a man dressed in a clown suit, you know, the one piece kind that have those huge ruffled collars. He has a cowboy hat on and is wearing aviator sunglasses, but has no clown make up on. Strapped to his side is a portable guitar amp which is blasting the Slayer inspired tunes that he is playing from a guitar that's hanging over his shoulders. Finally to drive this all home, he's not walking down the street. No, he's on roller blades! Just cruising on down the street at 4am playing heavy metal in a clown suit! What in the hell. I wish I had a video camera, I would have made a documentary. The selection is wide, the store is clean, and the staff is as personable and friendly as anyone could be. When I walked into Sheen Brothers the first time I saw a stranger behind the counter, and by the time I paid for my Haribo Gummy Bears, I said goodbye to someone I felt like I have known my entire life. I feel like Amkit, Akshay, and Kirit have become a part of me over the year I have lived in East Village, and I will always be proud to call them my friends.
