Ocean Wine & Spirits is located in Chinatown just steps away from the super busy Grand Street station (B & D train lines). They have a huge wine and spirits collection. I regularly go here to purchase the 5-liter box wines to make my sangrias. The price is $20 flat if you pay in cash. I found this to be the cheapest place in the area where you can get it. The staff is always helpful and won't hesitate to ask if you need assistance. They also deliver, which is very beneficial on those cold/snowy/rainy days when you're running low and do not want to leave the house. I've done some searching around the Chinatown and Lower East Side areas and this place is cheaper than most, plus the prices already include tax. Tip: When you get to the register pay attention to the neon stickers. They usually advertise really good deals of high quality spirits. Great place to get your Chinese liquors, but watch out for those Japanese whiskey prices. They sell just about every Chinese liquor you can imagine, with decent prices to match. Moutai and Wuliangye were both around $200 if you're looking for high end Chinese banquet type alcohol. The other wine and liquor selection here is not bad. I've found just about everything I wanted in terms of scotch and rum at prices that are just a bit more than Astor Wine or Warehouse Liquor. Don't expect any help from the workers here to pick out a good wine or bottle of anything. As for Japanese whiskey, they have just about all the rare ones that other stores run out of, but their prices here are outrageous. Yamazaki 18 - $750 Yamazaki 12 - $175 Hibiki 17 - $1000 Hibiki Harmony - $95 At these prices, you are better off flying to Japan and taking a trip to the distilleries. read more

A small store that is nicely organized with decent variety. The inside is clean and neat. Depending on what you're looking for, the prices are hit or miss. Some bottles of wine and spirits are priced well, yet I thought some others were rather unreasonable. If you're not picky with brands this is a great place to stock up. The store clerk was very friendly and offered assistance after I had been looking for a while. I'll definitely be back! Wandered in here while walking around after dinner and needing a wine restock. Employees are extremely helpful and friendly. There's a neat wine special: buy two bottles of wine for $18. That goes for the wines along a certain wall. There's a decent selection of wines from what I can tell, although I came in looking for something specific. There's even a free membership card that allows you to rack up points for each purchase. Thankfully I work relatively close by so I'll be frequenting Ocean Wine from now on. read more

Nice and clean store but come here if you want to be looked at like a crimminal. Walked into the store, the cashier stared me down, no hello or offered help. Planned to get few items as gifts but decided to go to another place instead because of his service. As I walked out, I got stared down again until I got out of the store. Edit- As the owner said it was very busy of the season...I was the only one in the store. Plus I even said Thank You as I walked out but got a stare back...? While it may not have the niche selection of Despana, nor the expanse of wine offered by larger stores uptown, Ocean's provides the neighborhood with a solid selection of wine and liquor at those proper Chinatown prices. Staff is always friendly; they are open late and in a fantastic location for those LES nights when a coat pocket full of red label shooters is a strong choice. Plus the loyalty rewards program is superb, gotta love some alcoholism incentives. read more

stumbled in here while looking for a reliable store to place an order for my wedding party favor. we decided on yellowtail and were comparing prices - by far the best from them. no BS and no ifs / buts. they calculate the price on the spot. i ordered about 30 cases of red wine yellowtail from them @6 per bottle. they were willing to deliver to my venue on my wedding day in flushing at no extra charge. also ended up getting about 30 bottles of hennessy. they also have a good return policy - they'd take back whatever we had leftovers of. it was relatively easy/hassle free to deal with them as well. the reason i couldnt give 5 stars was because of three things primarily- 1- on the DAY OF the wedding - i had requested delivery by 4pm and they were running about an hour late. not good esp for the bride&groom. good thing i had a LITTLE leeway in terms of time to get it set up! 2- communication with this place is not too great. they have an email- rarely gets checked/answered/replied. that's a pet peeve - i hate phone communication. email is the modern day way. 3- i also didn't like that they didn't call me to confirm anything (in relation to communication), they also gave me a freak attack when they called me a week early to tell me my delivery has arrived at the venue- i said WHAT? no. and they apologized and said they will check their records - never heard back from them on that one. bottom line - you will be the one harassing them if you want any updates. read more
