Wow where do I begin. There are very few memories that come to mind when I think about the sights I've seen and places I've been that were truly magical; let me tell you that Sheen Brothers is among that list. I lived in the area for a year and would get excited every single time I'd take my daily trip to Sheen Brothers. No matter if I was buying a bag of chips, a pack of candy, a case of beer, or some of the fresh produce, the experience was always spectacular. The selection is wide, the store is clean, and the staff is as personable and friendly as anyone could be. When I walked into Sheen Brothers the first time I saw a stranger behind the counter, and by the time I paid for my Haribo Gummy Bears, I said goodbye to someone I felt like I have known my entire life. I feel like Amkit, Akshay, and Kirit have become a part of me over the year I have lived in East Village, and I will always be proud to call them my friends. New York City will always surprise me. Just when I think I've seen it all, the streets of the East Village will spit up a new image of amazement. So it's 4am on a Thursday, those are critical facts to remember about this story. I am waiting in front of Sheen Brothers for my girlfriend to buy some snack foods, or something along those lines. Prior to this we were out partying, which we normally don't do so late on a weeknight, but screw it, sometimes you gotta cut loose. As I lean against the wall I start to hear what seems like a transistor radio in the distance. The sound grows heavier as it approaches. Soon it starts to sound like a heavy metal guitar track. I turn to look at the source of this Metallica-esque ballad and before my eyes I see something that to this day might be one of the greatest things I've ever seen. Keep in mind it's 4AM ON THURSDAY! I glance towards the street and there is a man dressed in a clown suit, you know, the one piece kind that have those huge ruffled collars. He has a cowboy hat on and is wearing aviator sunglasses, but has no clown make up on. Strapped to his side is a portable guitar amp which is blasting the Slayer inspired tunes that he is playing from a guitar that's hanging over his shoulders. Finally to drive this all home, he's not walking down the street. No, he's on roller blades! Just cruising on down the street at 4am playing heavy metal in a clown suit! What in the hell. I wish I had a video camera, I would have made a documentary. In regards to Sheen Brothers...I figured I could have talked about how nice the Chinese lady that works there is, or how it's a good convenient store, but I figured this was a much better story. read more

They are not doing their best given covid. Many other places take into consideration crowds and if you aren't wearing a mask at most places you will he asked to leave or they might have a mask on hand. These guys barely wear a mask as it is. Last night I was concerned by the crowd of teenagers they let pile in sans masks. I waited for them to pile out. I asked why they allowed that and they got angry with me. What made it worse was the frat boys from Princeton who said I sounded uneducated. I shouldn't have spoken to them but I did which is when they said how smart they were and that I was miserable for being so angry about the lack of adherence to covid safety. It's so sad and it's so easy to just take better care of each other and have respect. I was thankful this place was close but I am worried they continue to put everyone at risk. Called 311 again. Doubt it does much, but i care about my community and hope they shut down for good until people who have a sense of decency and are responsible can take care over. Shame on them. Overpriced and cold callous people. They should have stuck if for me since I go there almost every day yet they wanted the white claw $ that the frat boys were giving them along with their e-cig $. What a world! Boycot!!! This is serious and covid is spreading. Groups of people shouldn't be allowed in a tiny place like that and they can do something but choose not to. read more

Price gougers! Very bad and rude beyond belief - the misogynist behind the counter actually called me "a f---king bitch" after I complained that they charged me twice as much as other neighborhood vendors for items that that aren't priced on the shelves. I hadn't left the store when I realized they charged me $11.99 for an item that everyplace else charges no more than $6.99 and so told them I didn't want the item, refund my money. He refused and of course called me a "fucking bitch" (just so we're clear, that's what he said). New management from the good ol' East Village days and is bad news. every now and then, i decide to be a proper grown-up and look at my bank statements to ensure all my finances are in order: "charge to seamless", "charge to seamless", "charge to seamless", "charge to seamless", "charge to time warner cable, er, spectrum". yup. sounds about right. during this monthly routine, the one thing that stands out to me each time is a recurring charge to "Sheen Brothers, LLC". "WHO THE F--- STOLE MY CARD AND CHARGED $27.79 ON FROZEN PIZZA AND SALT AND VINEGAR PRINGLES®?!" i think to myself, every time. then i come to my senses and realize: ohhhhh, "Sheen Brothers, LLC" = "the bodega" downstairs. yup. sounds about right. these guys are amazing. open 24 hours. just remodeled the joint. and, if you're nice, they will tell you amazing stories about the neighborhood and how it's changed over the decades. ask for sean. he'll be wearing a "wolf howling at the moon" t-shirt, behind the deli counter. his stories are priceless. read more

It's probably fair to say that I am Sheen Brothers' most loyal customer, but for good reason. It's the only 24-hour bodega that doesn't creep me out in some way - it's clean, well-lit and has the most accomodating and friendly employees of any market in the East Village. I probably stop in 3-4 a day on to buy groceries, cigarettes, iced coffee, cleaning supplies (of which they have tons and all top-of-the-line), headache medicine, flowers, etc. What's especially convenient for me is that they provide someone to wait outside with your dog while you are shopping. In my case, it's a dachshund with serious separation anxiety, but they are so always so patient and sweet with him (and three of the employees even greet him by name when we approach). read more

In case you were wondering, this bodega is NOT owned by the acting Sheen brothers (Emilio Estevez, Charlie Sheen). Don't let that get you down though. It's still an adequate bodega with a wide assortment of goods, though more pricier than others (maybe because of the Sheen brand licensing?). But it's open all night, and a convenient one block from my apartment. I am prone to stumble in around 4 or 5 am after a long night out to purchase some bread (unexpectedly fresh), cheese, and meat for a late night snack. read more

I just love them. It's not terribly expensive, it's no Gracefully. Lao and Te always hold my dog out front so I can go in. All the ladies are really nice and the older gentlemen area riot at the counter. They have THE BEST ice cream selection around and make yummy sandwiches. And their milk products are always recent which is rare in a deli. And they DELIVER whenever you want. Super. I love them. Rudest place ever! My friend and I came in for a water when it was 90 degrees out and all we had was a credit card. We accidentally opened the water before we got to the register to find out there was a $10 minimum on credit cards- we were only at $3. Instead of making an exception and running the card, they argued with us for 5 long minutes and then took the half drank water and threw it out since we couldn't pay!!!! Very nice Bodega where beer, food and basic grocery items are well stocked and open round the clock. Fresh flower selection so good.

Outrageously overpriced and they always screw up delivery! I understand if English isn't your first language, but I've ordered deliveries three times, and each time took an extensive phone call with much repeating myself, followed by receipt of a completely wrong order. Twice I've had to call back and have them come again to exchange the wrong items for the right ones. Both times took another extensive phone call. Finally I just gave up. read more

This review is long overdue. I love Sheen Brothers. I was a regular the 2 years I spent dazed and confused living on 10th and Ave B, and relied on this place for everything from 4am turkey sandwiches to cleaning supplies to emergency slabs of bacon. As others have mentioned, this is one of the few 24 hour bodegas with super friendly staff that don't creep people out. There were even a few times when I was short a dollar or two, and they covered me. There was also one night that a creepy guy was following me around that they chased him out of the store for me. Sheen brothers overcharged my credit card $2 on a $10 purchase because I did not ask for a receipt. After already overcharging me on the items I purchased and having to buy more things because I did not make the $10 credit card minimum, they had the nerve to overcharge my card $2 because I said I didn't need a receipt. When I called they said they had no record of the purchase from one hour prior. With rents increasing daily in the East Village I will be CELEBRATING when this place closes down. read more
