Walmart and Kohls are the largest stores, but you'll find a few specialty retailers too (Trek bicycle shop, GNC, and a gaming store). To me, Market at Oakland is a model of what a shopping center outside of town should look like- providing services rather than just stores- because most people shop online these days anyway. These businesses are close to home and meet your needs, like a hair salon, massage, banks, nail salon, and Firestone/auto care. Market at Oakland also has some great food options. I love Wasabi for sushi, and they have great lunch specials. Tropical Smoothie Cafe has some healthy options. There's also a Starbucks, McDonalds, and Chic-Fil-A if you want something small and quick. For people who live nearby, this is a lot more convenient than braving traffic to other businesses in Mt. Pleasant. The best way to enter, for me, has always been off Porcher's Bluff Rd.

I love the convenience of this shopping center and especially enjoy shopping at Publix and eating at Red Orchids China Bistro (it's delicious!) The addition of the new Starbucks is also a huge step in the right direction for this center. Here's hoping that they can attract more upscale merchants. I'd love to see a HomeGoods, ULTA Beauty, McAlister's Deli, etc.

South Windermere Center is a great place to walk around, shop, and have a cup of coffee (or frozen…read moreyogurt). This shopping center has several places to eat (Starbucks, Normandy Farms, YoBo, TCBY, Three Little Birds), an Earth Fare grocery store, and a few other businesses like a barbershop, shop store, and office supply store. You've also got a tackle supply store, a library branch, a yoga studio, barre studio, and a kettlebell gym. There's even a community garden and convenient access to the West Ashley Greenway. There's plenty of parking, but be prepared to walk a bit. The best places to park are behind Earth Fare or in the outer parts of the Earth Fare parking lot, near Half Moon Outfitters. If you're lucky, you can snag a parking spot right in front of the businesses, but that road can get pretty busy too and drivers don't always slow down (or look). To me, this is a model shopping center for West Ashley, and I certainly hope we can get more developments like this on Sam Rittenburg Hwy and in the other areas of town.

MOD Pizza is a fairly new restaurant in this shopping center, along with old favorites like Marble Slab and Moe's. The shopping center is also very well maintained with new landscaping and plenty of parking. The only drawback to Westwood Plaza is that making a left turn onto Sam Rittenburg Blvd. is nearly impossible, and traffic can be rough. I always make a right turn leaving the shopping center and turn around later, or exit behind the building onto Ashley River Rd.

The addition of the new Harris Teeter supermarket and the relocation of T.J.Maxx into a new space at the center have proven to be very popular with area shoppers. I am excited that ULTA Beauty, HomeGoods, Tropical Smoothie cafe and Metro Diner are also joining the center. Kudos to the owners for all of these great additions and a very special thank you for making the center look so much better. The new landscaping and flowers are extraordinary and definitely improve this entire property.
