Gassane Tailors is the epitome of what your tailor can offer. After given a smile and a handshake when you walk in, they sit with you at the main shop table to discuss what you want to accomplish before sending you to the dressing room. They offer an excellent eye for both traditional and modern styles, they are willing to work with whatever request you may have, but also give critical advice to protect your clothing and save you from any possible regrets. While living in DC and Seattle, I was fortunate enough to go to several great tailors, those recommended by many blogs and publications as some of the best in the country. However, working with other tailors after moving back to Austin, there were communication troubles, a lack of understanding of techniques or styles, or simple shortcomings of execution. This shop should be on every one of those best-of lists. I've been taking everything to Gassane Tailors (blazer adjustments, reweaving of fabric, tapering of trousers, hems, sleeves of overcoats), and everything has come back absolutely perfect for a price much less than expected. I was recommended to Gus by several friends and the alterations dept at Nordstrom. I needed a bridesmaids dress hemmed and taken in. I walked in without an appointment or calling ahead and was helped immediately by the owner's wife. The fitting was less than 5 minutes but she knew exactly what to do. She completed the alterations in less than 2 weeks and gave me a call when the dress was done. The dress fits me perfectly. The total cost was $135 but the work is excellent and it's a long bridesmaids dress with lace. I felt like the price was fair/ average. I will definitely return for future alterations. read more

This is by far my favorite tailor in Austin. The walls are covered in photographs of presidents and celebrities and athletes that have come in to have their suits tailored here at Gassane. I went to Gassane Tailors to get measured for a traditional Chinese dress that my friend in China is making for me. The female owner offered to do the measurements free of charge. I had gone to another tailor previously and the woman was going to charge me $15 for measurements. I ended up giving the woman at Gassane $5 for her time, although she refused to take it. She was very lively, sincere, nice, and willing to do exactly what I needed. She made sure she was getting the measurements right based on what my friend needed. You know you want to use these guys. I had a stack of blazers, slacks, and a suit that all needed alterations. I walked into the store and was greeted by Joe (I believe) and could instantly tell that this guy knows good men's clothing. When I picked everything up 3 weeks later, it all fit perfectly and looked awesome, and I was happy to spend almost $175 for it all plus buy a $50 tie that he made. I came in to have a dress slightly altered and was seen immediately by Joseph, who was sweet and knew exactly what to do to the dress. I told him I needed it the next day for a wedding, but if he couldn't get it done by then not to worry. He told me he would do his best to get it done. The owner is so nice and respectable. Quality was very good BUT I took several of my pants and skirts in for waist alteration. He took it in on one side so my pants and skirts were lopsided instead of taking it in equally on each side. My zipper pulled to one side. I was shocked and he said he had done just that. I believed their reputation and photos on the wall of famous people who I respect. If he repaired it, he would have to take in more on the other side with would make the pants too tight. I just took my stuff and left (with paid bill). I lost out. I respected the man and his business but unacceptable work. I was so sad. read more

The price was fair and since I had expressed concern about their original completion date (4 days before I needed to take it out of the country), they said they would get it done earlier if they could. I love this place!! The prices are a bit high but I have never been unhappy with a tailored item. I've had a few items that I kept in my closet in fear that a tailor would ruin the fabric (super tiny pleats, delicate fabric, lace etc.) but Amal tailored them perfectly and you can barely tell where they were taken in. They may be great at alterations, but don't go here for a tailored suit if you're a woman.They don't actually do fully custom suits. They create made-to-measure suits, which means they have patterns in certain styles that they adapt to create the suit based on your measurements and fabric choice. I had two pairs of pants made with one suit jacket. Both pairs of pants are way too big in the hips by about 4 inches, and the pockets in both pairs were put in inside out. Honestly, I can feel the cut edges of the pocket bottom fraying under my fingertips when I put my hands in the pockets. And the top button of the suit jacket won't button across my chest. When I went in for the fitting during the tailoring, I was told adjustment could be made. However, when I went to pick up the suit, the fit had not changed much. The tailor recommended I wear the jacket with the top button unbuttoned! If I pay good money for a suit made to fit me, I expect it to fit me. And this was after I patiently waited several months for the order! I will never go back. read more

Had to wear a black suit to a wedding and asked them what they could do. Totally dominated the suit--tightened the jacket around the waist, shortened it, then tightened the pants and hemmed them. $140, done in a week, and extremely happy with the results. read more

These guys are absolutely amazing! I moved to Austin from Houston and I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to find an awesome tailor here. I was wrong. Everything they have altered for me is top-notch and fits me like a glove. I have to have all my dress shirts tapered substantially but each one is perfectly fitted. The two guys who run it have been doing this for years and it shows. They have pictures hanging all over the place of G.W. Bush and even though I don't personally like Bush, hey, if you've made custom suits for the POTUS you've got to have something going for you. I will say they did mess up one shirt I brought to them and were unable to fix it, but instead of simply refunding my money they gave me a custom shirt for FREE! I've rarely experienced customer service like that! Considering it was one shirt out of over 100 garments I've taken to them, their success rate is fantastic. They're great. I'm a 30-something guy and recently bought my first suit as an adult. All it needed was the pants hemmed and the sleeves shortened...nothing terribly involved, but they did a super job. I dealt with the manager, Joseph, who measured and marked. He's a super-friendly guy though his accent can be quite thick and his words tough to comprehend at times; whenever in doubt, just nod and smile because he's knows precisely what he's doing! It's probably not your cheapest option. For that, a small mom&pop dry cleaning place might be the thing. I didn't want to take the risk and went with Gassane. I think they're very reasonable for the quality of work they do and I will be bringing my second suit back for sure! read more

I'm a young professional that is just now really starting to define my business wardrobe. I've collected several suits over the past few years that have been tailored by various individuals. As I've grown professionally, so has the quality of my attire. While sometimes tailored well, more often than not my tailor experiences were quick interactions with someone that seemed to work on an assembly line. The work was too often shoddy/standardized and left my clothes fitting "good enough," never perfectly consistent with the others. I've even tried other, more personalized tailors...
